You've seen those commercials for Select Comfort Beds, the ones where Lindsay Wagner (Sleep Number 35) tells us how much her sleeping has improved since she got one of them? I was at the mall this weekend and one of the salespeople for the company (their stores seem to be popping up a lot lately) asked me as I was walking by, "do you know your Sleep Number?"
And it occured to me: I didn't.
I'm beginning to feel left out. This whole Sleep Number thing is beginning to become a cult phenomenon on the par of the Head On ads or the Chia Pet. They're even using celebrities in their ads now. William Shatner and Matthew McConaghey know their Sleep Numbers!
I like my bed not too soft, not too hard. Maybe leaning just a bit closer to harder than soft. So what would my number be, 50?

I am highly educated, vegetarian, and tend to love camping more than sleeping indoors. My parents purchased sleep number beds for each bedroom in their home, and when I am there, I sleep better than I ever had. The bed is the perfect texture (if that makes any sense).
I was under the assumption that the beds were expensive (out of the price range of say, Chia Pets or HeadOn)--it's remarkable if they have a cult following given their price.

We got a king size bed for under $1300 last year. It's the low-end model so I have no idea what my sleep number is. I just push the dial until it feels right (no display on the remote). My husband likes sleeping on really firm mattresses and I like mine on the soft side. It's the perfect compromise for us.

Dear Mr. Sassone,
I think there is a strong probability that you are related to President Peabrain, I mean Bush.
Thanks again for your intellectually stimulating insights.

Be honest... are you secretly hoping that the Sleep Number people will see this and send you a free one?
Seriously though, I don't know if these mattresses will be a cult phenomenon. I don't know many people with Sleep Number beds, but those that do love them. I have never heard anyone sing the praises of Head On and Chia Pets like that.

I hate those ads, along with the TempurPedic bed ads. The reason I hate them is because I'm considering buying one or the other and now I want both so I can alternate sleeping on them to decide which I like best. "A leading consumer magazine" said their testers tended to like the TempurPedics better, but only because those that liked a softer mattress complained that the Select Comforts sometimes felt like "sleeping in a bowl" on an extremely soft setting. Personally, I prefer an extremely hard mattress with a bit of visco-elastic foam topping.
Maybe the Select Comfort and TempurPedic people will see my pathetic post and each will send me a free bed so I can decide on who's the best. Just in case that happens, I sleep on a king-sized bed, you bed people, so send me the large. Thanks, and I await my surprise gifts!

My sleep number is 25 and I am proud and will say it LOUD. I started at 35 when we first got it, then I slowly worked down to 15, which is just like a hammock, don't get me wrong I loved it at that number, it's just that when it came time to get out of the bed I was laying in a pit lower than the sides of the bed, so I compromised a little comfort and pumped it up to 25, still a wonderful ,comfortable sleep. Never going back to regular mattresses.!!!
