(S02E02) I'm impressed. This show was good last year but the changes made in the off-season were all for the better. Even some of the little things that other shows might not take the time to tie up, What About Brian goes and takes that extra step to keep it's own little world intact. Take the Angelo storyline. The actor (Raoul Bova) has been released from the show, but rather than do what some shows would have done and just forget his character even existed in the off-season, he's still "there." Nic has daily phone conversations with him until it becomes clear that he won't make it back in time for Adam and Marjorie's wedding. It just makes Angelo's transition from being on the show to being off it that much smoother.Transitions were what this episode was all about. Dave and Deena continued their downward spiral and Dave seems to finally be realizing that their marriage is over, despite what he said about Deena last week at the pre-wedding dinner. Dave had no problem picking up where he left off with Suzanne, the video game rep from Leviathan Games. Remember her? Her company bought Dave and Brian's first title last year. So who knows where that will take us, but I'm sure Deena will find out. She did mention in therapy that she wanted to know who Dave's "one" had been, right?
Elsewhere, the love triangle that is Brian, Marjorie, and Adam officially spun out of control. But that's what has to happen right? If everything got figured out... well, then I'd be talking about the series finale right now. We got some pretty interesting flashbacks from a New Year's Eve party a few years ago. It was the night that Adam and Brian first met Marjorie. But Brian, nice guy that he is, let Adam walk all over him and Adam finished the night victorious. What it really set up though was Brian's "why the hell not" moment. All these years, he's wanted Marjorie. From the flashbacks, it became quite clear that even right from the get-go, Brian and Marjorie were more compatible.
But that nice guy mentality prevailed. He let Adam take her home that night. He stopped her when she came over at the end of last week's episode. They could have, you know, but they didn't. The real turning point occurred when Brian came to see Marjorie the morning of the wedding and Adam was home. What did he tell them? You two shouldn't get married. Direct, to the point, but damn, I really didn't expect a line like that. Nor did I expect Brian to try and break up the wedding during the ceremony. He did succeed in getting Marjorie to cry. I think they were good tears though because he was finally honest about how he felt about her and it sort of confirmed that she wasn't crazy for having the same feelings. Of course, she ended up leaving Adam at the altar but we all knew that was inevitable. It was just a matter of what was going to push her.
So now the rebuilding process begins. Marjorie will return. Adam and Brian will have to patch things up. Despite the pact they made all those years ago, a girl got between them and as long as she's around... well, we'll see how it works out.

I am really liking this show...I think it has great potential and thank goodness it is on ABC...ABC seems to be more willing to give shows a chance to find an audience (i.e. Brothers & Sisters)...unlike FOX....
I think it will probably make it...especially since Studio 60 seems to losing a few viewers...
Thanks for the recap!!

History has shown that NOT to be the case. Don't make me mention Eyes and InJustice again. There's two wounds inflicted by ABC that will never fully heal.

The show is good, although this episode resembled more a soap opera than a weekly drama about relationships. I'm glad they had the guts to go all the way and have Marjorie leave.
I didn't know that Angelo was going to actually leave, and I'm sorry about that. Was it because he loved soccer so much?
And no, ABC doesn't always give shows the time to find their audience. Case in point: the brilliant and very short-lived Sons and Daughters!
