Movie actor and political activist Leonardo DiCaprio is helping develop a reality show that is meant to raise awareness about the environment. The show, called E-topia, is about an American town that transforms into an environmentally friendly "utopia of tomorrow". It sounds like the conflict in the show is expected to come when construction workers try to build under the direction of some very passionate eco-idealists, planners and architects. The series is currently being shopped around to the networks. While the message is undeniably important, it also may be a little too preachy to be called 'reality television'. Since when does reality television carry a positive message? The genre is forever aligned with shows like Laguna Beach, Big Brother, The Bachelor and Survivor. If anything, it sounds like a documentary series meant for Discovery Channel or HGTV.

The only people who will watch this stupid show will be your environmental, protesting nut-cases like the one who stood in front of a bulldozer and got ran over in Israel.

Retro: Thank you for your intelligent comments.
I'm guessing you have a strong sense of idealism running through your blood.

Reading about Leonardo DiCaprio's upcoming TV show on your blog brings to mind his appearance on the Oprah show, when he and Princeton University professor Dr. Michael Oppenheimer discussed eco-friendly ways we can all make small changes in our personal purchasing habits in order to help the environment.
A group of products notably missing from their discussion – and ones I believe would be of great interest to all eco-conscious women -- are environment-friendly menstrual products.
The truth is that disposable feminine hygiene products have disastrous effects on the environment.
According to most estimates, the average woman uses nearly 12,000 disposable tampons and/or pads during her menstruating lifetime. And these tampons and pads – just like the 49 million disposable diapers foisted daily upon the environment – wreak havoc on our land.
One answer: Reusable menstrual products! There are several varieties, including reusable organic cotton menstrual pads and reusable menstrual cups. For instance, The Keeper, which has been on the market since 1987, is a reusable menstrual cup which is made of natural gum rubber. With proper care, one Keeper can last up to 10 years. Now, that’s an option that’s easy on the environment AND cost-effective! The company has also recently introduced a medical-grade silicone version of The Keeper, called the Moon Cup.
For more information about both products, please visit the manufacturer’s website, www.keeper.com. And feel free to write to me at thekeeper1987@aol.com.
Do you know of any way we can get this message to Leonardo DiCaprio? That would be great!
Thanks much.
