(S01E04) A big helping of grossness pretty much right off the bat, when Claire undoes her own autopsy. I don't know how that coroner missed seeing a head wound heal right before her eyes. Guess you don't see what you don't expect. Note to Sylar and other potential villains: the way to put Invincible Cheerleader out of commission if you ever have to -- leave a stick in her head. That Odessa's a strange town. They start autopsies before notifying the next of kin? Claire sneaks into her house in the morning, and it's clear no one reported finding a dead cheerleader at last night's kegger. Ah, but let's not spoil the fun. Claire finds out dirt-bag quarterback has done it to others, so she uses her power to fix him good. She's learning to have fun -- not quite Hiro-level fun, but still. Maybe being invincible doesn't have to so terrible for an angst-y teenager, after all.
I expected a New York City convergence, but instead many of the heroes make their way toward Vegas. Though, back in Brooklyn, Mohinder finally gets to talk to a real live superhero when Flyboy Pete turns up at his flat. Mohinder's sudden skepticism with Pete is a load of crap. Mohinder himself was shouting at Pete's brother, Nathan, like a loonie himself just a couple scenes earlier, and now he's patronizing Pete? Seems a little late for Mohinder to adopt scientific skepticism, especially since he's been running around trying to get someone to believe him about anything since this whole thing began.
As to the true nature of Pete's power, looks like Arkangyl in comment #33 of last week's review has called it. Nice!
Hiro and Ando have the most fun, and funniest adventures. I'm happy Ando is still along for the ride, the pair works well together. I love the look on Hiro's face right before he restarts time at the roulette wheel -- he scrunches up his features, hoping he gets it right. And even when stopping time to cheat the roulette wheel, he takes a moment to upright a spilling drink on a cocktail waitress's tray. Why not have a little fun while you're in Vegas?
Niki's mirror twin refers to Micah is "our son" when she's beating down a baddie in the elevator, an interesting distinction I thought. Why is the evil twin, or the alternate personality, always to one that knows what's going on?
What do you guys think, is Niki (or her mirror twin) a villain -- or a hero who hasn't figured out how to control her power yet? I mean her mirror power -- not her other superpower, which is hotness, as demonstrated this week on Nathan.
I initially assumed Niki's (ex?) husband is the guy who can block out Officer Parkman's thoughts (and is working with Claire's Dad). But the way he appeared so passive under Claire's Dad's control in Nathan's hotel room -- I'm not sure if he is Niki's husband. Or maybe Claire's Dad has some sort of mind control going with him.
All this and a visit from, a deep-voiced, self-possessed Future Hiro too! Awesome!

I think Niki's doppelganger is not on the side of good, so much as on the side of "What's good for Niki is good for me." I can see a point in time where it appears that Niki & Sylar are working together. And yes, there were some gaps in "reality", but who cares? It's still a great show!

The doctor performing the autopsy described the cheerleader as "Jane Doe" and said she had been found naked and in a river. So, that's why she was able to sneak back into her life.
Such a fun show.

That was also the symbol on Mohinder's laptop when he plugged in the flash drive.

That symbol (from the tattoo and Mohinder's laptop) was also visible in the code of Chandra's program that Mohinder was looking at on his laptop - play it in slo-mo from one of the earlier episodes, and you will see what I am talking about.
The symbol looks familiar - anyone know where it's from? How bout what it means?

Well the symbol is obviously a sign of the villains. What i really enjoyed was seeing a serious side to Hiro's character and a nice little hint that we will get to see some serious action with the reference that Peter currently has no scar. Don't get me wrong i love Hiro's comedic performances but as the episodes go on there will be an obvious emphasis on focusing on the importance of what they are dealing with.
I'd like to actually see a bit more of Micah's character as it is sort of already obvious that he might have some abilities. Lastly what was with that giant shadow following Claire, is it just me or did it look a little too big (also it was a nice way of showing Isaacs ability).

Josh the symbol was also visible on a number of other places like on Claire's textbook and on one of Isaac's paintings.

That's good info about the symbols. I wonder how this all ties into Ed Deline and the rest of the crew at the Montecito. ;) Anyone else notice the signage? Maybe next episode Isaac will order his art supplies from Dunder-Mifflin.

re. the symbols -- I think I saw the same symbol made up of floating things in an aerial view of a swimming pool a couple of episodes back.

I think the Montecito thing is just because they used the same set as Las Vegas. Both NBC shows film in LA and since Las Vegas already has a Montecito set already built for a Vegas look, they probably rented the space. It's quite difficult to film in an actual casino. Who knows though, maybe they may do a crossover sometime like Las Vegas and Crossing Jordan.
As for the symbol, I'm not sure it's a purely evil symbol, but it apparently has a way of showing up as an "easter egg".
Niki's husband/Michah's dad is not the guy that works with Horned Rimmed Glasses guy. The dad has the power to walk through walls similar to Kitty Pride in X-men. I think he will finally make an appearance in the next episode or the one following that.

I just discovered this show last week. Anywhere I can catch up on the previous episodes?
What's up with not giving Arkangyl any stars for that call?

The symbol is a representation of a half helix of DNA. Remember that both Sylar and Mohinder's father were trying to track all those people thanks to the genetic migration of the genes and "guess" where a super-human would show up. Now everyone wearing the sign seems to be evil in some way.
As for Claire since she's "invincible" they need a baddie that can really hurt her in some way, that big shadow was scary. Think about the black guy that could inhibit the psychic police man; he might be able to do the same to other heroes, or just have some kind of mind control.
The symbol was on a book, in the pool, as a tatoo, as a necklace and in the computer code

The symbol was scrawled on all the photos in the apartment last week--the apartment that Mohinder visited, where he found all the photos which were gone when he went back later.
I noticed last night that Mohinder's apartment number is 613, which is an important number to Jews--there are 613 commandments that observant Jews are required to observe. This is unlikely to be a coincidence, and is bound to have some relevance.
Future Hiro stopping time to meet Peter on the subway? Aweseome.
I'm getting really bored with Peter's girlfriend. Time to kill her off. Come to think of it, Peter himself is pretty boring too. I'm much more interested in his philandering brother, who flies to Las Vegas to personally borrow $2 million from a bookie in the middle of a campaign.

The symbol in the pool is in that episode where the mind-reader cop showed up, right before the other lady cop called him out and arrested him. It was in that house where he found the kid in the closet/whatever.

The star-system is still disabled is what's up with Arkangyl not getting any stars for the call.

ummm my earlier comment was sarcasm. The Montecito thing was definitely purposely put in there but likely just for kicks. I dont think we'll see James Caan having any secret powers soon. The Vegas-Crossing Jordan crossovers were bad enough......

I agree the symbol is half helix of DNA, and if you look, you don't even have to look that closely, it appears all over the place. Isaac has drawn it, it's on the cover of Chandra's book.
I want to know what the story is with the eclipse, did it trigger their powers, or was it just happenstance that they all (except sylar) discovered their powers during the eclipse. Why was it so important that Isaac drew it, he wasn't predicting the future, we know when all the eclipses for the next 500 years are going to occur. I think it has some significance in triggering their powers.

Well that would stand to reason. If Peter has the ability to borrow or mimic the powers of others, it would only make sense that 'the black guy' could have the oposite ability.
I'm really starting to like this show. At first I was cautiously optimistic, but now it's getting interesting. Future Hero is awesome. I wonder how far into the future he is from. The other question I have is about Niki's husband/Michah's dad. How does LA Dave know that? I don't remember that being addressed so far in the show.
