What is it about Doctor Who that makes people want to leave? First we had Christopher Eccleston (The Doctor) calling it quits after one series. Then Billie Piper (Rose) left after two. Now The Sun is reporting that David Tennant (The Doctor) may not be coming back after he finishes series three, his second with the show. According to reports, he has been offered £1million to come back for series four. Digging out the calculator, converting pounds to dollars, dividing by episodes, that's more than what those crazy kids over at Lost are getting. Of course, he could also be floating his exit in the press as a bargaining tool. Maybe he wants more money, a personal chef, or just all the Toblerone he can possibly eat. Whatever the case, I'd like to see him stick around. I'm really enjoying his work as The Doctor in series two, currently airing in the U.S. on SciFi. But given the recent history of the show, anything can happen.

But doesn't the Sun have the reputation of being similar to the New York Post - often getting its facts wrong and just posting rumors?

Is that Toblerone comment a reference to Alan Partridge?
I haven't David Tennant's doctor yet, so I don't know if this is good or bad news. Will the show just continue with a new doctor if he leaves?

This is not true at all. tennant has sihned through the fouth season, but does not want to do a fifth. That is a bummer indeeed, but three seasons is about as much as any actor plays the Doctor.

Getting your Doctor Who news from The Sun is a little like getting your Star Trek updates from the Weekly World News -- though probably even less accurate. I can think of at least five stories they've published RE: Doctor Who in the last year that had no truth to them whatsoever.
The Sun publishes all the unsubstantiated rumors they can, si occasionally they get it right. Sure, it's possible that DT might leave after this season, but as Tegan Jovanka told the Doctor, even a broken clock is right twice a day.
[sarcasm]Hey didn't you hear that the chick from Footballers Wive$ is playing the Rani next season?[/sarcasm]

I hope this isn't true. David Tennant is a great Doctor and while the show is enjoying great popularity right now, it does need the stability of a established star that will be with the show for a few years.
I have a feeling that the best is yet to come.

I liked the 9th and sad to see him go, but I really like the new guy! He's great and the storylines are wonderful. And they are running out of Doctors and I do not like the rumour of the son of the Doctor.

As others have said, it's the Sun. Tennant will be there for at least three seasons, and then will probably go. And, I bet they'll go even younger next time when picking an actor. Wouldn't the kid who plays Harry Potter be a neat choice? We've never had the Doctor as a real youngster before.

I think they will go for whatever age the best actor is.
This time it seems they had an "older" 9th Doctor because he died and came back as a younger him. The age difference between the two "new" Doctors seem to have been planned since it came back.

It looks like David Tennant will be leaving during the fourth season. So, unfortunately, we only have another season and a half to enjoy him as the Doctor. He is fantastic in the role:

Tennant leaving during the 4th season is a load of Bollocks. First of all please realize that England's "The Sun" newspaper is about as reliable and on par with US weekly, The Star, and the Weekly World News of American Tabloid Fame.
Second of all, who does it say will replace David? Jason Statham. That would be the worst casting against character in the history of mankind. And no one, especially Russel T. Davies is going to turn the show into something where someone like Statham's normal character type would be at home. That's not what Doctor Who is about, and will NEVER be about.
And lastly, until you hear it on the Beeb directly from Tennant or Davies, I wouldn't put any stock in what any paper speculates about. Just not worth my time, not worth your time, and certainly not worth worrying about much less publishing. It is sensationalism at it's worst.
As you can see I am a hardcore fan of Doctor Who, but you also have to realize: So is Tennant. He is known for 2 things: In grade school he wrote an essay about how he wanted to grow up and play Doctor Who on TV, and he was the Highest rated doctor in Doctor Who Magazine 9(something that is VERY prestigious, and Tennant knows this). He's not leaving anytime soon. Gauranteed.
