While Duane "Dog" Chapman awaits trial to decide if he'll be tried in Mexico after his recent arrest for illegal detention of convicted rapist and Max Factor heir Andrew Luster, twenty-nine members of Congress have asked Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to deny the Mexican government's extradition request to have Chapman sent there for trial. Chapman, along with his son Leland and partner Tim Chapman, were arrested by Mexican authorities for illegal detention after capturing Luster in 2003. The three posted bail but never returned for their court date. Bounty hunting is illegal in Mexico, and Chapman refused to relinquish Luster to the Mexican authorities. Plans to have Chapman extradited to Mexico were put in motion only a few days before the statute of limitations was set to expire.

The way you talk about Tim makes it seem like Dog is gay. Is "partner" really the right word?

Yeah, "partner" is right since Tim is not actually related to Dog Chapman. They just happen to have the same last name. Although, Dog does refer to him as his "brother", it's more of a friend/brother thing.
I hope Congress convinves Rice to deny Mexico. This whole thing is bogus.

Jen,
How is the whole thing bogus? Break a law go to jail... and why is it okay for the bounty hunter, who seems big on the skipping out on your bail takes food of my family's plate, to skip out on his own bail.
Throw him a bone... then slam the jail house door on his rear end.

How exactly is it "bogus"?
They broke the law in Mexico. It's that simple.
Think of it this way - It's legal to smoke marijuana in Amsterdam. You live there and come here and get arrested for smoking pot on the street corner in New York. You post bail and fly home. Should the US not ask that you be extradited to face the charges?
Of course, there is one big difference - smoking a j isn't nearly as heinous as, say, kidnapping someone. Which is what these guys did amounts to in Mexico.

The problem with that, corbett, is that these guys went to Mexico to pick a jackass up who thought it was a good idea to drug and rape numerous women..
I guess his rights are more important than theirs...
Oh, that's right, he wasn't a Mexican citizen and he was hiding from the law in a country where every "official" is as corrupt as the criminals.
Comparing smoking a joint to rape is just plain illogical. Please check the web prior to making such comments in the future.

Duane "Dog" Chapman took a wanted, convicted serial rapist down in Mexico. A subsequent search of the scum's hotel room found a video camera, the date rape drug GHB, (the same drug he gave to his American victims,) and a book of Spanish pick-up lines!!
Yeah... maybe he just went there to work on his tan!
The Mexican government clearly has no appreciation for the fact that Dog stopped a monster from preying on their women, and the US government, for some reason, is obviously trying to suck up to this corrupt country, which refuses to extradite the rapists and murderers that they harbor over there.
Dog, Leland and Tim Chapman are heroes. And if you are too dumb to understand that they deserve medals, not more jail for what they did, then consider this:
Any one that condones the violation of Dog's constitutional rights forgets the fact that you could be next!
When Condoleezza Rice has to decide on the Chapman extradition matter, I hope she remembers that she serves the American citizens, not the Mexican government!!
This travesty must be stopped!

well this is really a moral issue. things are no longer just by law. the mexican government is turning into a country of the old wild wild west. they have no morals unless the profit margin is there. they don't deal with their country's evils so therefore they enjoy harboring ours if the profit is there. Condi please do the right thing, you are a woman that guy deserved exactly the justice he got from dog. and those that don't like the show - DON'T WATCH -

how did they kidnapp him they did there job by capturing him, just because everyone else was too scared to make a move on the millionaire doesnt make dog a criminal. i understand where people saying things like its illegal to bounty in mexico so they should have left him, maybe it wasnt there wisest decision but people have done alot worse in this world and rich people think they can do anything well they cant cos you will be caught, or hunted down if need be.
