(S03E03) As many people made note of last week, the previews for this week's episode basically gave away the fact that Roslin lived through whatever happened during the end of the first episode, as the Cylon toasters approached the group of humans in firing squad form. But at the same time several of you were willing to believe that anything could have happened to cause her to live through such a thing.
In true Battlestar Galactica form, we start with a flashback to one hour earlier. Just from that alone you know things didn't go down as simply as they appeared at last episode's end.
Here's the thing with Sharon and what I said about her possibly causing that ambush. In the last episode we didn't see her with the rest of the landing party, so really if you didn't know for sure, she could have possibly been a Cylon spy put into place when following the map that was stolen. Well anyway, I thought it was possible at the time.
It definitely seems to be a good idea to capture the Cylons and disable them rather than kill them outright. Then they don't have a chance to make it to "download city" (love it). But really, how many Cylon "souls" are there? We know how many models, but I don't recall if they ever mentioned how many of each model there are.
Sorry, but I've got to add this in -- I don't think I'll ever get sick of seeing the near naked body of Number Six (Tricia Helfer), from any angle. Imagine this show on a pay cable station like HBO? Humina.
Some commenters thought Starbuck's sudden change of heart toward her "daughter", Kacey, was just a trick to gain the trust of her Cylon "husband." Then why was she still showing apparent caring for the child with no one else around to witness it? Seems to me she had true feelings for Kacey.
It's especially interesting that Cylons can have dreams. With them essentially being machines, what could that mean, that they can dream? I feel like I should say something about Blade Runner now ... Anyway, I found it odd that they could dream.
Maybe some of you readers with some military background can let me in on that whole line of salt that everyone gathered around on Galactica and then scattered around with their feet. Is that reminiscent of something that really occurs before battles? I know the line symbolized separation due to their enemies, with them scattering the line to show their intent to destroy that barrier. But it seemed as though based on something from our history. Or maybe it was just something cool the writers made up.
It sounds like the more a Cylon gets downloaded back to a new body, the more painful it becomes. I'm sure this is something that will come into play in some later episode, as the Cylons may actually become more afraid of being killed not from the fear of not being near a download area, but from the pain of the download process.
Finally the rescue mission is just about upon us, and I can tell you I think it's everything you'd hope it will be and more.
As Racetrack so perfectly put it: "It's on."

I can agree that it was obvious things wouldn't be as cut and dry as the cliffhanger -- but the "HOW" is what it is all about. We need to know how it happens and why... which leads into the intrigue behind the story. And yes, I am so glad that Season 3 has started!

The human cylons are essentially machines in the same way that a human body is a machine, so I'm not terribly surprised that they can dream.

all around that was a pretty decent ep. I'm still thinking about kacey though. I can't remember from the farm episode if they give an explanation for why kacey is so old now compared to hera, who was conceived/produced first. Many thanks if anyone can't point out the reason, if i missed it.

In the 'previously on' part, Lucy Lawless (number 3 I think) said 'thats the first cylon human hybrid'
I had forgotten about that scene (or maybe I misheard it or am missing something else..)
Does that mean that Kacey isn't really Starbucks child? Or at least not a human-cylon hybrid?

Well Cylons and Humans continue to begin to realise that integration and mixed breeding is the way fwd. Now also we are given signs that death of a Cylon and multiple downloadings, becomes more and more tricky thus they are no longer immortals. By eps 72 we will not be able to tell the difference between the 2. But who is the real leader of the Cylons?

My compliments to this fine group of actors! The plot thickens. Boy does it ever! As far as the number of cylons per model, we know there were seemingly scores of #6 models from the pics of the resurection ship before it was destroyed. There were also a whole basestar of Sharons that Boomer blew up. ( I will never get over that). Come to think of it, if I suddenly found myself on a huge basestar full of Sharons, it would be positive proof that there is a God.
How will Saul deal with the knowledge that his wife betrayed him? It is going to be tough for him. In a way, I feel sorry for her. I believe she really did it for her love for Saul, misguided as it was. After all, she is only a civilian and not trained in the harshness of the circumstances. I wonder if she knew of Adammas rescue plan would she have went through with the sell-out? I am not defending what she did but I am only trying to be objective. Much more but I will read what all you faithful have to say.
ps: Grace Park exhibited her usual stellar performance.

First of all,.. Keith,.. nice use of the word "Humina". I don't think I've ever seen that used in print. Nice touch! ;o)
Secondly,.. great episode. I only wish that they could have done this as a consecutive two hour show like the premiere. Oh well. And what's up with the habit of giving away so much in the 'next episode' clips?! I mean,.. it wouldn't be too much of a surprise to see the Pegasus jump in to the upcoming battle when Galactica needs the help the most. But they didn't have to give it away so easily in the previews for next week. (If there is anyone who doesn't know what I'm talking about: There's a scene in the preview where Admiral Adama is yelling into the monitor for Lee to jump out of the.)
And the one situation that I'm not looking forward to is when Boomer (or whichever one it is) finds out that Adama lied to her about the Hera. Ooooh she's gonna be one pissed of Cylon.... and we all know, Hell hath no fury like a female cylon scorned.
Anyways,.. good episode. Can't wait until next week!

Another great episode. The scene between Adama and Apollo in the hangar almost brought tears to my eyes. BSG just keeps hitting it out of the park, every episode.

I'm gonna guess that Casey is Starbuck's kid, but not Starbuck's and Leobon's kid. Remember when Starbuck was interrogating Leobon? The admiral said that Leobon would lie just to get inside Starbuck's head and mess with her. That's what Casey is to the next level. I'm gonna guess that Casey comes from Starbuck's egg and some sperm from a captured human and in-vetro fertilized some captured woman. Maybe all in an attempt for the cylons to learn more about the whole egg fertilization process.
I can't wait until next week!

To 10:
Last week was technically episodes 1 & 2. Ah, two parters, they make syndication fun!
And a bit of speculation (assuming someone else hasn't already speculated this), is Colonel Saul's wife going to find herself bearing Dean Stockwell's child soon?

Something to throw out there...
The kid is one of the 13 models, meant to attack the human's weakeness for the helpless. Notice how she suddenly awoke in the hospital bed when "Starbuck broke" this one could get dicey though. How are the producers going to kill little girls every week like the bullet to Caprica 6 or Chopstick to the neck. But I could totally see the little girl with the others speaking adult ala the "old/little" girl from Interview with a Vampire. Like I said just throwing it out there.

nice thought jim. the kid being a cylon sounds like the most reasonable conclusion, as it is the only one that address the age discrepancy of kacey and hera. However we have not seen cylon models that are able to age, so therefore the storyline with kacey would need to be wraped up this season. Kacey could be an excellent sleeper agent on galactica though. who is going to expect the little girl? Still though i just want the show to at some point recognize the problems with the kids age.

We're all believing that Kacey is the child of a human/cylon breeding program. What if the child isn't Cylon at all? It was made quiet evident that Kara and Anders had a sexual affair before Kara was abducted by the Cylons. What if it was Kara's fertilized egg that they took from her and Leoben is now using Kacey as a pawn.

Bambeluvr: That is an excellent theory. The problem however, is if I am not mistaken, The cylons removed Kara's overies BEFORE she met Anders. It would have been a workable premise otherwise. Looking forward to next episode!

tim-1, you are mistaken. Anders and Kara did hook up before she got captured and taken to the farm.
If Kacey was born before Hera and is a hybrid then we have two conclusions.
Leoben kept the child secret from the rest of cylons or its just a flub in the story from D'Anna's reveal at the end of the newscast.
My money is on that Kacey is 100% human and Leoban is using it to mess with Kara's head. How exactly Kara is important has yet to be determined.

Akbar Fazil, I agree about Kacey being 100% human. Until Hera, the cyclons wasn't sure that a hybrid was possible. It would be an interesting storyline for later, a human child spending the first years of her life being raised by cylons
