The Daily Show: October 11, 2006

The Daily ShowFirst of all, an open plea from me to the promo people at Comedy Central: For the love of God, get some new pictures of The Daily Show correspondents. I'm tired of posting with these out-dated photos. Now, get to it. Chop, chop.

It seems like everyone has something to say about the Mark Foley scandal... Even Donald Trump. Best line (and it wasn't even a joke): "And, you know, if I were gay, which is perhaps a well known story that I'm not, I would admit that I'm gay. But he would come in with magnificent-looking women. It was like torture to me watching this. And fortunately, I'm married and very happy." And I'm glad Jon caught his tendency to crouch during impersonations. Was wonderin' when he'd finally notice.

"War... What It Is Good For": Correspondent John Oliver filed a report about war from the point of view of an inexperienced Brit. The video game thing was really cool (I mean, the fact that there's someone actually making games of that stuff is kind of horrifying, but the CGI-Oliver was cool). Did Oliver really break his nose while filming the segment? That's what it says under his Wikipedia entry... And if it's on Wikipedia, it must be true! Oh, and the picture marking the death of Oliver's nose said "1977 - 2006". That was a bit surprising... Is he seriously that young? Or did his nose not develop until his later years or something?

The night's guest was Lou Dobbs, from Lou Dobbs Tonight and author of War on the Middle Class: How the Government, Big Business, and Special Interest Groups Are Waging War on the American Dream and How to Fight Back. Fairly straight-forward interview. "Seat of Heat": "What is the maximum number of words you are allowed to have in a book subtitle?" Dobbs got it spot-on... "I believe we have exceeded it." By the way, I really don't like how they break for commercial, come back for "Seat of Heat", and then jump back to commercial. It irks me. I think they only recently started doing it... I didn't notice until the October 11th episode.

Jon/Stephen: First thing I noticed was that Stephen's tie was unusually bright. I guess he wanted something to reflect his mood, because he had a very special episode of The Colbert Report that night. Moment of Zen: Donal Trump offered some sage advice... Love what you do, never give up. No, seriously. Don't give up. But love it. Because, if you don't love it... you'll give up. Seriously.
