If you thought that the poker craze had finally run its course, NBC would like to disagree with you. The network has announced a new late-night poker show called Poker After Dark. Beginning January 2nd, the hour long show will air Monday through Friday at 2:05AM. On Saturday there will be a one hour recap called "the director's cut." The format sounds similar to many of the other poker shows currently on television. A group of the world's top pros, all miked of course, will compete for a $120,000 jackpot. And if you watch poker on TV, you can probably already guess the names that have been announced for the series. Those include Daniel Negreanu, Howard Lederer, Jennifer Harman, Gus Hansen, Erick Lindgren, Chris Ferguson, Doyle Brunson, and Phil Ivey.
Shana Hiatt (pictured), formerly of the World Poker Tour, has signed on to host. You may remember that this show was part of her contract dispute with the WPT. She'll be joined by the week's winner to do commentary for the Saturday episode. Personally, there is already way more poker on TV than I can keep up with, so I can't imagine watching much of this one. The Saturday rap-up is a good idea though, as it will give people the whole story without a daily viewing requirement.

"Poker After Dark"
Alternately, you could just close the curtains real tightly and turn off all the lights.

Good grief, clearly it's been too long since I watched any Beavis and Butthead. I didn't even get the double entendre when I wrote that post. Well done Steve-O.

Fortunately the viewers decide what will be produced and shown unlike everything else going on politically in the poker world lately.
