(S02E04) I think I figured out the one thing I want this show to have. Some kind of ongoing storyline. I know there's plenty of serialized stuff on TV right now but I really think something that ties this show together, episode by episode, would help a lot. The reason I say all this is that we got a little taste of it tonight... needs more though. For viewers of the show, it's no surprise that Hotch and his wife have been having problems. The guy works too much, he's never home, and he's missing his son grow up. Instead of getting some lengthy scenes with Hotch and his wife (there was a short one), we instead got a case that seems have Hotch evaluating what he does for a living. Job might finally be getting to him.
I find it weird that since it's common knowledge now that Elle (Lola Glaudini) isn't going to be around much longer, that it's Hotch who we're seeing with job-related issues. So far we've gotten nothing from Elle. No indication whatsoever as how or why she might be leaving. Which, if anything, leads me to believe that her "removal" from the show might be quick and painful. Anyone check out the previews for next week? Looks like Elle might be going undercover or something similar? We'll see how she fares.
Moving on, I really had to laugh at the way the episode started. The Nine anyone? It was a bank robbery, only this time, we got to find out "what happened in there." This guy, real winner, forces his bank hostages to strip down to their skivvies and then he forces them to submit to some uncomfortable sexual acts. Now at first, this seems like something that wouldn't emotionally affect Hotch. But by the end of the episode, the guy evolved (and by evolved, I mean "got jacked up on crystal meth") and he just started killing young boys at restaurants and birthday parties. Messed up, I know. The root of the problem? Mommy issues.
It seemed to make Hotch think twice about not spending enough time with his wife and kid though. After all, there are certainly more bank robbing psychos hopped up on the meth and all it takes is one. So what I'm hoping results from all of this is more of future episodes to focus on the characters and their off-duty lives. Hotch seems like the logical candidate to look at first. What do you other Criminal Minds fans think?

I prefer the personal stuff to be in the background, let the story give dribs and drabs but nothing in your face. That drove me nuts with Sarah of the Sullen on CSI.

I also prefer the personal stuff to be in the background but this was ridiculous. You skip a seemingly serious doctor's appointment for your kid in the first 5 minutes and this is the last we hear about it. Even the confrontation was a bit of a joke. No real emotion at all. I expected him to rush home at the end to make amends but instead find an empty house or the locks changed.
Don't bother writing it in if that's all your going to include.

i don't need to see the personal stuff at all-i watch this show for the wild crimes and how they track killers-i am ok that when they are not i at work i do not have to see them. take CSI Miami for instance-there is way too much personal crap on that show. but criminal minds is a great show!

I think "Criminal Minds" is the most brilliant show on TV! I love how they each have their own specialty, one with a genius IQ although quite nerdy, an expert with a history of working with sex offenders, an expert in obsessions, on and on we go. When they take you along for the ride at how the crimnal mind works it is facinating. I love the characters. Garcia is the icing on the cake, she is the humor among the chaos. I would love her knowledge of computers, because I want her job! :-)

I just started watching Criminal Minds this season, and I love it. However ... and this isn't a criticism ... I thought I had a strong stomach for TV, but the scene where the bad guy tried to make the little boy kill his Mommy with an Uzi just about made me hurl. The mother literally begging her kid to pull the trigger so he wouldn't get his throat cut ... "Mommy says it's okay!" That was almost too much emotional punch for prime-time TV. I say this as someone who has always had a very high tolerance for "R-rated" themes on TV.

please don't ruin this Great show with too much personal garbage. the stories are sufficient for the most part. i enjoy not seeing sex plastered/pushed in my face at every single turn with regards to tv shows not. i like mystery, suspense, and that sort of stuff. if things get too personal, it'll go to sexual eventually. and, by the way, i totally LOVE the quotes at the beginning and/or the end...i get my pen and paper to get them written down so i don't forget them. they are thought provoking, relevant, inspiring, and just plain interesting. don't change that!
