Hi everybody! No Bones this week, so I thought I'd dabble in a bit of innocent speculation instead.
Over the last few weeks there has definitely been an escalation of flirtation and sexual tension between Dr. Jack Hodgins and Angela Montenegro, two of Doctor Temperance 'Bones' Brennan's colleagues at the Jeffersonian Institution. Well, let's be real here. . . Jack's been doing most of the flirting. But, Angela is definitely not shying away from all of the attention, and she is encouraging Jack in some ways as well. It's all in fun, and their scenes together do break up some of the ickiness surrounding the weekly investigations involving tremendously decomposed bodies.
My question is this: should these two crazy kids hook up? I resoundingly say Yes! And, according to some of your comments, you agree as well. So, now that we have that answered the next question is Why they should hook up.
Here's why they should hook up: they're cute together. Angela is this beautifully intelligent woman with a brilliant smile who spends hours a day creating holographic displays of dead victims, sometimes just from pieces of skull. Jack is this fuzzy-haired ball of energy with a bit of a conspiracy streak in him. Separately, they're just two very smart people working in the highly technical forensics field. Yet, together, they act like two teenagers in high-school science class. The asides, the smiles, the innuendo between them. I'm sure some find it all sickening, but I find it endearing.
Here's another why . . . this is a couple that you can root for. You know, like Ross and Rachel from Friends or Winnie and Kevin on The Wonder Years. You want them to get together, no matter what obstacles come their way. Angela and Jack are this type of couple. Every week you wonder how you can hook these two people up because you want to see them have a serious relationship. And, when they hook up, you know you'll be jumping for joy in your living room.
Would their relationship ruin the show? Well, if the writers of Bones didn't decide to muck things up, Jack and Angela's relationship probably wouldn't do much harm at all (unlike a relationship between Bones and Booth, which should never, ever happen). In fact, it would be nice to see how their relationship grows since they would be spending a good portion of their time together at work and home. However, even if the writers decided to put Jack and Angela 'on a break' at a certain period of time it probably still wouldn't damage the dynamic of the program. That is, unless they decided that Jack would snap and go on a rampage.
So, I now turn it over to you. Let me know if you feel that Jack and Angela should get together.

I'm 100% for Angela and Hodgins getting together.
However, I don't think it should be a quick thing. Maybe keep the flirting going for the rest of the season and have them finally hook up in the season finale, or even next season's premier.
I'm excited to see them together, but I'm really enjoying their flirty relationship and sexual tension. The two actors have such GREAT onscreen chemistry, that you can't help but get caught up in their flirting. it makes me smile like a crazy person, and when the two do FINALLY get together, I WILL be jumping for joy (like a crazy person) in my living room.

NO! Hodges is a little creepy and the show needs that (conspiracies, etc.) and Angela is grounded and the show needs that (the human element.) Putting them together would take the edges off both of their traits, and they both become less interesting. Let him want her, sure, but her him? Ew.

These two make an electric combo - both brains and personal chemistry! He is so brilliant and so full of bizarre and unlikely knowledge, plus the so sexy overtures - Angela responds to his veiled advances with her own non-commital reception. They are a match made in ?anthrology? - Their flirtations will probably be more interesting if they were to continue for a time, evolving into an even more veiled and complex "relationship" - both in and out of the lab. I can't wait!

If they did hook up, it would make the title of the show ironic.
Dontcha think?
I believe Miss Morrissette would agree.

Hodgins has amazing chemistry with just about everyone, Brennan being the exception.
For me, Jack and Angela are too predictable. I can see the story arc coming, which I suppose is fine considering that we all know what we'll endure with the Booth and Brennan "will they/won't they" curve, but it's going to get old pretty quickly.
In a perfect world, the writers would take advantage of these two characters' uniqueness in a completely unexpected direction -- but that hasn't been the case on the show so far.
Read into that what you like, but I think he's certainly got other options than just Ms. Montenegro.

Nooooo!
Well, they do act like they jumped in the sack already and are trying to get everyone attention to that fact. But this whole "romance" thing is so wrong!
Each character is excentric and interesting in their own right: Angela has a past marriage in Fidgi, Jack was getting his jollies imagining her with the Toni, the UPS delivery girl.
They are both cynical, instant gratification people - there's no reason in the word to not jump in the sack if the fancy strikes.
There is no real chemistry between the actors and the excessive coupling will give this show the flavor of a teen soap.
OTOH, while I am not emotionally invested in it, i don't buy that accepted wisdom that Bones& Booth getting together would ruin the story - Farscape anyone?

NO! I never have and probably never will like that Hodgins/Angela pairing. If they had nonchalantly jumped into bed together in a lusty and uncommitted manner, then I would have believed it. But this half-smile, flirty gesture, freudian slip titillation between the two does NOT fit their characters and only serves to act as a very POORLY WRITTEN foil to the Brennan and Booth romance. Had they, the writers, chosen to do a WELL-WRITTEN foil, they would have created a relationship like I described above and almost made it into a running joke with the other squints.
Besides.... I really liked Angela making brazen and obvious comments to Booth. I thought it was a really honest and interesting dynamic between her and the relationship forming between Booth and Brennan (AKA B-squared). Now that she's all teenagery over Hodgins, she doesn't do it much at all anymore.
Please, don't put them together. It's gross. When I see them together on screen giving the half-lidded, "I might just devour you any second" look, I throw up a little bit in my mouth.

Did you know that linking this blog to the official Bones board gets your post there deleted? Did you know that commenting on the fact that you are an accredited by Fox reviewer 9with press kit and everything0 gets that post removed as well?
Lots of other things get your posts removed and eventually you banned from there - such as liking season 2 changes and Cam....

Yes! Angie and Hodgie are hot!!! The chemistry is quite palpable in every episode and last night’s episode proved it. I admit, at first I didn’t see them hooking-up….and then of course the height thing also put me off….What can I say…I have a thing for tall men…short hairy guys usually don’t do it for me. However, over the past month both characters individually and together have grown on me. He’s a man of odd enthusiasms and she is a woman who totally lives by the free-spirited flower-child ideology. I also think Angela's non-committal tendencies (she agreed to attach herself to a “boyfriend” for only a couple of weeks? throughout the year) and yet her fear of being along...coupled with the fact the Hodgins is secretly one of the riches man in America and fears showing up at function because his family might found out about what he really does for a living...gives the writers a lot to play with in terms of story arch and character development. I think their relationship would make a great side story to various episodes. I would like the writers to explore Hodgins’s “secret”(although not so secret anymore after last night’s episode 11/16/06). Maybe bring in someone from his past that has some involvement in a particular case. That person could also create conflict for Angela and Hodgins and could give us some insight into how a wealthy heir started working with “bugs.” It’s quite possible when his father or mother was alive that they didn’t approve of his choices. Also, the facts that Hogie was afraid or concerned about running into relatives at the formal function that all the squints were required attend last seasons suggests that Hodgins may not have the best relationship with people in his “rich” circle….
O.K. back to work. I can’t wait for the next episode.
