Will Battlestar Galactica make a jump to NBC?

There's a
fairly logical rumor brewing that NBC is in the final stages of a plan to put
Battlestar Galactica on its network. It's no surprise, really. NBC/Universal owns the SciFi Channel, which airs
BSG. Plus, it's a huge success with viewers and critics. Speculators put the show on NBC at the mid-season, directly after sci-fi hit
Heroes, with
Studio 60 finding a new time slot on the NBC primetime schedule.
However, a little phone call over to NBC Universal shoots down that rumor. Jessica Nevarez in the publicity department tells us, "It is an online rumor that someone started and it is absolutely false."

It might bring in a wider audience but would they be lost and behind on the on-going storylines?

NBC and science fiction programming would be a disaster. Anyone remember what they did to a little show back in the 60's called Star Trek?

It would be canceled before you can say frakin toasters. I love the show, but it would be a flop ratings wise on NBC. Only way they'd pull it off is it was reposed from SCI-FI and they had nothing else to fill the spot.

Well the one huge issue this would solve is that you could actually watch it in HDTV.
Its ridiculous that for the last 4 years you could watch 100 crap sitcoms and procedural crime dramas in HD, but not one of the greatest Sci-Fi TV epics of all time.
You can only watch reruns on Universal HD. Useless.

erroneous_nick: very erroneous.
In the 90's NBC completely about-faced with 3 new Star Trek franchises.

Putting it on NBC would destroy what is probably the most engaging science fiction program ever. NBC really does have a history of killing science Fiction, and I think what makes BSG as good as it is would be lost in the transition. I hope that this is just a rumor...

Seth,
Those aired in syndication, not on NBC. Not erroneous at all.

Ummm Seth? In the 90s NBC about faced with 3 new star trek franchises? You have no idea what you are talking about.
1. TNGs continued run into the 90s was in syndication
2. DS9 started in syndication and moved to UPN after the network started
3. Voyager and Enterprise both started on UPN
Want to explain how exactly NBC had anything to do with that?

Actually,
ST:DS9 never aired on UPN, only in syndication.
(It may have aired on your local UPN affiliate in syndication).

Of course it's a rumour, and it's a dumb rumour. Why would NBC uproot a series that's been on the air for two seasons and is starting its third and stick it on the main network? Particularly one with as much back story as "Battlestar Galactica". Would they show the complete run of the series to get us into the current season - you know the episodes that are already available on DVD? Or would they dumb viewers right into the middle of season 3 and let the ones who never saw the show try desperately to figure things out? The opportunity to move the show to the network existed when the miniseries got great ratings on Sci-Fi but NBC blew it by showing a cut down version on a Saturday night in the summer when they should have put the show on their Fall schedule and hyped the pilot as a major Television event.
All of that being said, given the absolute disaster that the NBC new show line up looks to be, a gritty no nonsense original science fiction series like "Battlestar Galactica" (but like I said, original) could be just the thing for NBC. Too bad the executives over there would never think that the general public would embrace such a thing.

that would be fine ... but they need to start from the Beginning and leave the new episodes to SciFi

Didn't they already move Battlestar to NBC when it started? Weren't the ratings terrible?
They were reruns, I think, but I don't think they would risk taking a succesful show and moving to a place where it has failed before (even if it was repeats).

If the show was moved to NBC they wouldn't be able to push the 'ratings' like they can on networks like scifi (and others that aren't the main four networks). And it would fail cause anytime NBC moves a successful show it dies within a season or two. The higher ups of NBC need to actually think before mixing up any of their successful shows.

GREAT! I hope they do move it. this show ABSOLUTELY SUCKS. That way they can have more episodes of stargate on scifi and bring back richard dean anderson. lets all say a prayer that BSG(aka the 90210 of scifi shows) makes that move!!!!

90120? whatever troll
SG1 is a favorite of mine but it is more popcorn action with a bit of commentary.
BSG makes its viewers look deep and hard on their own actions as humans. Sorry your small brain cant grasp that little fact.

akbar,.... SPARE ME. the only reason why the show is popular is because of people's incessant need to try and live vicariously through others, the same way women try to live vicariously through soap operas. its a shame that so much money is being wasted on something so passe and rudimentary. so take YOUR small brain and go watch young & the restless, and leave the scifi shows scifi, with less drama for your mama.
