Okay sportsfans, you may have gone too far. Over the weekend, a couple in Biloxi, Mississippi named their newborn son ESPN Montana Real. That would be 'ESPN' after the sports network and 'Montana' after legendary football player, Joe Montana. Rusty and Leann Real are not the first parents to name their kid ESPN. There's an Espn Malachi McCall in Pampa, Texas; Espn Curiel in Corpus Christi, Texas; and Espn Blondeel in Michigan. Come on! That has to be funny for, like, five minutes. Right?!? By the way, the husband picked out the name.Would you name your child after anything (a character, actor, show, network) on television? If so, what?

Wait for the DVD release of "Idiocracy" from Mike Judge. It skewers this topic completely. In the future, every person will be named after some sort of product - there are characters named Frito, Viagra and Lexus for example. These loving and caring parents are just getting their chidren off to an early start. I can't imagine a single one of these children being even the tiniest bit miffed at their parents for selecting such kooky names for them. I wish my parents had been far sighted enough to name me Kal-El, Apple, Pilot Inspektor, Peaches Honeyblossom or Fifi Trixibelle. How sad is it that parents have to abuse their children this way to feed their own rabid egos?

I know a bunch of kids named Kayla for a soap opera character, I think Days of our Lives. At least three women I worked with named their child after the character because they thought the name was so pretty.
I saw them interview this couple on the Today show and one thing to note is they have four daughters already. The wife said the husband could name the child whatever he wanted if it was a boy and she honestly didn't think it was a boy. She was going to make ESPN his middle name but caved in to her husband's choice.

Michael, don't forget my favorite, Moxie Crimefighter Jillette, Penn Jillette's daughter. He now has a son Zoltan Penn Jillette, but Zoltan isn't particularly outrageous when you learn that it is his mother's maiden name.
Now I have to admit I was influenced by Max Headroom when I named my son Edison. But say what you will, it's a great name. nobody mispronounces it, nobody misspells it, nobody forgets it and it doesn't look made up.

I have to admit that I've always liked 'Elliot' for a girl, after the character on Scrubs.

At this point, I wouldn't think the point would be to name the kid after the network, but might instead be that they heard about one of the other kids and decided, regardless of its origin, that they like the name. I wouldn't name my kid Espn, whether it was after the network or not, but it's no stupider than a lot of other names people come up with.

If I ever adopt two pets at once, and one or both of them is male, I will name them Chandler and Joey.
You see, I figured if Phoebe's brother can name a little girl baby Chandler, I could name a female pet the same.

I think every parent should have to vet their kids name at the local elementary school and see what kind of abuse the kid will be in for. If they still insist on cruel names they should be the ones who have to deal with the abuse.
Don't these people remember how abolutely cruel little kids can be?

Well, I'll admit to developing a certain fondness for the name Veronica over the past couple years...and who can say whether "Mars" just might slip in there as a middle name?

My wife is dying to name our next daughter Lorelai. I'd be partial to Sydney from Alias. Of course, a future son would definetely have to have either Jack, Bauer, or both as a name.

I think it's parents' job and responsibility to make their children's life as superficially difficult as possible.
But I'm not all that creative, so if I have a say in it, my daughter will be named Willow, and my son Lando. Or Kramer.

Well, my bf and I just got a kitten and had a few names in the running for her, three of which were tv-related: Ginger (Gilligans Island), Kaylee (Serenity), and Penny. We went with Penny -- from Inspector Gadget.
As for kids.. I'd probably go with names that are somewhat universal and not toooo close with a specific character.
Then again.. maybe it'll run in the family. My mother told me I was named after Loni Anderson's character on WKRP (A popular name, yes, but inspired by the character.)
I've always liked the name Chloe - first time I really paid any attention to the name was after hearing it on ER.
