(S01E03) Ya know, you'd think if Niki could leave her son Micah with a friend during the day, she could find someone to watch over him while she heads into the desert to bury bodies, rather than leave him in the backseat and claim she's just out stargazing. It's like this Las Vegas stripper-with-a-porn-site and an evil mirror-twin is a bad parent or something. Also, if Hiro's comic shows him back in Tokyo with his friend, how come he didn't know he was five weeks in the future in New York last episode? I have my doubts about Hiro ... why does he keep calling the comic-book artist Isaac, whom he knows is an American, and try to talk to him in Japanese -- then wonder why the guy hangs up?Sadly, this episode struck me as disjointed and I'm more annoyed with nagging little questions like those above than anything else.
A couple characters did make slight forward movement. Peter mainly, who really gets screwed by his brother this time. Peter are Hiro are still the only characters with an inkling of what's really going on. Maybe Isaac, the addict/artist, but he just assumes he is crazy.
Claire (who goes to a school where the cheerleaders wear their uniforms every day) gets killed again. Seems wherever this girl goes she get her neck snapped. But her quarterback boyfriend turns out to be a bastard and a rapist, so maybe she will escape to New York and get closer to the actual action sooner, rather than later. We sorta have enough information on the extent of her healing ability. It's absolute. Okay, next please.
Officer Parkman sees a quick reversal of fortune when he goes from being prime suspect in an L.A. murder to getting to work alongside the F.B.I., so evidently his psychic powers are not as surprising to others as they are to himself. Though the Claire shocker wake-up that ends the episode is intense, the most chilling scene belongs psych-cop Parkman. The one where he's in a bar amusing himself with mind reading -- until he spots a stranger whose mind is silent, and is staring right back at him ... I wish my remote had a "more like this" button that I could have pressed right there.
Enough introductions, I'm getting impatient already for the next phase, whatever that turns out to be. The preview last week said something like "the heroes will have to learn to work together." I imagine so -- but only if they eventually meet each other and start discussing what they know, and what they can do. I'm still watching, but the revelations are very slow trickling in, and I expected more tonight. What are your thoughts now, after episode three?

I am suspending my disbelief on this show. It's a lot of fun, and the best thing I've seen on network television in a very long time.

I have to agree with you that it was kind of frustrating. Claire seems to wear her cheerleader outfit every day it seems.
More Hiro please! He's the only entertaining guy on the show. The scene where he freezes time was well done.
The ending scene was kinda shocking though. I guess that's the only way they can keep people interested.

I kinda liked this episode but I feel like paths should be crossing by now as well.
My biggest gripe with this episode was the awful
product placement for Nissan when Hiro went to rent a car in New York. Can't they make these more transparent?!? Is that too much toask? It felt like I was watching one of those pathetic commercial/music videos from American Idol....

I really like Greg Grunberg. That cop is a charmer and his story line feels more grounded in reality than any of the others. I like this show. I sure hope it doesn't get cancelled before we get some "closure" (see Invasion and Surface). I'll keep my fingers crossed.

I enjoyed the eposide with so many things yet to be answered; but, you forgot to mention the apt. with all the clues but when the police was brought back everything was gone; the question is will the pictures come out or be blank?
I agree they need to move on with Claire but what a way to end it...her on the autospy table...think the cliff hangers at the end of this show was Bravo....

The only bit of this show I don't like is Stripper Mom; I keep hoping she'll get more interesting.
That said, I'd be happy if this was just the Greg Grunberg and Hiro Hour. Hiro's friend's reaction when he's finally convinced was just fantastic.

I had to laugh when NBC's promo for next week's episode ended with the announcer saying something along the lines of, "And another amazing cliffhanger!" To me, that's what the show is-- a series of amazing cliffhangers. Unfortunately, the other 44 minutes of each episode are absolutely KILLING ME with their banality.

I think the title, and subsequent focus of the story, should be changed from "Heroes" to "Hiro's". I, too, want more Hiro!

The dialogue is cloddy, the characters not engaging, and the plot ... well, let's just say: How does that kid sleep through the desert night in the back seat of an open-air car???
But some of the actors are good-looking so my eyes are pleased, and I'm just a wee bit intrigued with where they are trying to go with it. I get the feeling, also, they have more of an idea of an end game than J.J. Abrams, so I think I'll keep watching to see how it goes.

This must be the worse writing on TV this season. I find better character motivation in The Three Stooges. It really hurts to see a great idea being treated like this.

When I turn on this show, I enter the Heroes universe. It totally sucks me in. I believe it's possible for a Japanese man to manipulate time and space, for a single mom to meticulously dismember mob goons and bury them with a kid in the car, for a cheerleader to be invincible and wear the same outfit all the time, for two brothers to fly around, and for a junky artist to paint the future. I buy all of this because it's the ultimate what-if: "what if I was special?"
The story moves slowly. I say good. There are a lot of characters, and in my opinion it's a good idea to introduce them THOROUGHLY before the story progresses. (And by the way, it's the third episode and events are already in motion for some to meet each other and the bad guy.) But once the story of stopping the big bad is under way, they might not have time to properly tell you about all the characters, and this show might suffer from doing character-centric episodes (a la Lost). I think the transitions between stories really are like a comic book (and written by Jeph Loeb, how could it not be).
So I think the story will get told in due time, and I plan on enjoying the ride.
By the way, how awesome was that Sylar telekinetic stuff? Anyone think that maybe that "thought-less" guy in the bar (who looked like Dahlsim from Street Fighter) was him?

Bob: The show isn't going anywhere. It was given a full season arc.
Anyway, wow! Who would've thunk that the boy-next-door would turn out to be a raging rapist. The whole time I was thinking, what the hell...
Hiro does make the show for now, but I think Peter is due for great things. He's starting to be more of a go-getter rather than sit and ride on his bro's coattails. Lots of discrepencies with Hiro's comic book, but I won't get into that now. Do they argue in the comic book as well?
How chilling was that scene with the cop in the bar. Forget Saw 3, The Ring, or Emily Rose, that just about did it for scariness for me. Made my skin crawl.
I watch to much TV, this is only the 3rd episode?! Ha!

Totally agree ... this episode didn't work for me at all. Iliked some of the character progression but it just wasn't done well.
One thing I've not seen in the comments is the possibility that Claire wasn't being autopsied officially. Personally I think it was "Daddy" and after he was done trying to see what makes his little girl tick (while she had a piece of driftwood in her brain) he pulls said driftwood out to "wake her up".

I think that the comic changes as Hiro alters things. Since he went back in time and met up with his pal, he already changed things from what they were before, where he was missing for weeks. When he first got the comic I don't believe he read it through all the way before the cops got him, besides, I don't think the comic had a date on it.
I have also been suspicious of Mohinders lady friend. She seems awfully interested in what his father did. I don't know of many people who would stick around after all the crap that has been happening to Mohinder. I'm guessing she is working with the cheerleaders dad. If they wanted to kill him they could have. They want him to lead them to more super powered people and the girl may be their way of attracting flies to honey rather than vinegar.
For the record though, I don't think Claire's neck broke this time. Instead a branch impaled her neck into her brain. It was interesting to note that her healing was suspended until the object that caused her "death" was removed. She does seem to break pretty easily though.

Yeah - its not Shakespeare but its fun! I'm with you Chris W its like a whole comic book world. Not to be analyzed with silly things like logic! It's like the answer to every geeks prayers to have something like this in primetime. Agreed it isn't superbly written, the acting is largely horrible, but the concept is still great and they're doing alright.

Last night's ep. was soooo much better than Ep.2. I'm glad to see some forward progression with the characters and storyline. I have to say that some of the characters are really getting on my nerves. I know a lot of you like the psycho/stripper/evil mirror twin chick, but frankly I can't wait for her segements to be over and to move on to another character. Perhaps the writers know that she is weak and that is why they have Hiro's character meeting up with her in Vegas. There may be hope for the psycho killer yet.
Claire the unbreakable cheerleader has become really disappointing. Again, I can only hope that she will become more interesting as the show continues - maybe Hiro can bring some life to her character too! I mean really, the uniform again????
Scary guy at the bar was really creepy and I hate to see Greg Grunberg's character being questioned by horned-rimmed glasses guy. I have to admit that I liked his character from Alias and that probably carries over into this show.
As for Mohinder, he seems totally clueless and I'm waiting to see what his little flat-mate does next - she is too cutesy and innocent. How is it that she keeps managing to save his butt? She too convenient for me and I think she is working with the horned-rimmed glasses guy.
Overall, tonite was much better than last week and I'm hoping next week will be even better. All in all, I'm in for another week!
