(S03E03) I suppose it was only a matter of time before we got this episode. Numb3rs is a cop show and you can't have one of those without the obligatory "priceless art theft" episode. So I suppose "generic" is a suitable word to describe this installment. It was good (Numb3rs always is), but you've seen this one before.
Did anyone else notice some of the guest stars though? First there was Benito Martinez playing the art museum's curator. Forget that though because all it made me do was remember how much I miss The Shield. Is it January yet? But it didn't stop there. Zach Grenier and Garret Dillahunt both guest starred too and they're both Deadwood alums. I miss that show already too. This is very depressing, I'm moving on.
As I mentioned, the case this episode revolved around was something we've all seen before. Missing painting? Gadzooks! Where could it be?!? Some of the other stuff going on was very good though.
Charlie and Amita are still dancing around their non-relationship. Alan has even taken to pestering his son about commitment and responsibility and wanting something more from life. So I suppose the Charlie/Amita thing will be worked out eventually, although I was surprised she wasn't present for the dinner at the end of the episode.
Another point that caught me off guard was how everyone seemed to be talking about Larry behind his back. All the "I respect him, but he's crazy" talk? Alan had a few words about it when he was talking to Charlie, but what happens when Larry finds out that everyone thinks he's an old kook for not having a house or a phone?
Last to mention? How many times have we heard the song Hallelujah by Jeff Buckley in a TV show? No joke, I can think of dozens of episodes of just as many shows that have featured this song in an episode's ending montage. It's kind of crazy... right?
Next week on Numb3rs looks better though. Plus, it's Friday the 13th so I'm sure something weird is planned.

Just watched the episode and it turned into more about family than a missing painting. It was a very heavy handed episode when it comes to that theme. Like hitting Charlie over the head with a frying pan type heavy. Both brothers have problems with commitment so why pick on Charlie just because he owns the family house. The show is much better when dealing with solving a crime than when it's trying to show us the personal lives of those involved.

Oddly enough that version of "Hallelujah" (which was written and first performed by Leonard Cohen btw) didn't sound like the one done by Jeff Buckley, but rather the version done by K.D. Lang. Why is it that whenever someone hears "Hallelujah" they automatically think Jeff Buckley? Is it sort of like Pavlov's dogs? (Sorry for the attitude, but on this sort of thing I'm a credit where credit is due kind of guy and Buckley seems to get way too much credit for this song.)

I used to enjoy this show, but now it just seems like a parody of itself. It was most evident last week when Charlie started in on one of his mathematical explanations and one of the agents said, "Just nod and go along with it."
How are we supposed to take the show seriously if the characters don't?
P.S. I'm always impressed when someone knows who Jeff Buckley is. Obviously, Toomey doesn't.

I think it's getting to be the bash Charlie show. He's a genius mathematician, with an equation named after him, has a million dollars to buy his house, and is good looking to boot, yet his father thinks he's immature and irresponsible, the FBI folk think he's a joke, and his girl friend or whatever is constantly irritated for some reason or other. She's always making bitchy, snide comments.

I am sick of the end-of-episode music scene montages... in EVERY show.
