While NBC is apparently giving up on Kidnapped, it has given a full season commitment to Heroes. The sci fi drama has averaged about 13.5 million viewers in its first two episodes, while poor Kidnapped only had about 7 million per episode. Critics are calling Heroes the "break out" hit of the fall, but I think that title is reserved for Ugly Betty. Heroes will now get a full, 22-episode season.NBC picks up Heroes for entire season

Kudos to NBC for not pulling the rug out from under us in regards to at least this series. I know a lot of people, including myself, have expressed frustration over how shows get the axe suddenly, and without any satisfying conclusion. Now, at least with Heroes, we'll get a whole season and if ratings take a dive, there's a much better chance that viewers will get to see some kind of wrap-up.

Heroes is doing pretty well considering:
1. It was not on any TVS Bloggers top 5 "most anticipated" this summer (... correct me if I'm wrong as I probably didn't get to read *every* top 5),
2. On Sept. 27th, it was declared one of the TVS top 5 shows "already getting old" after only one airing... (along with Jericho and Justice... while Happy Hour, Vanished et al. were spared such condemnation.)

3. The Heroes episodes, beyond the first, were considered to "kinda suck" by another official TVS Blogger recently and,
http://www.tvsquad.com/2006/09/26/heroes-fans-prepare-to-hate-me/
4. It's currently doing better than the (what appears to be anyway) TVS prodigal show, Studio 60 (... gasp, the AUDACITY! LOL!)
There must be a TVS blogger or two gnashing their teeth right about now at Heroes *ahem* undeserved success. That said, there's still time for a decline I suppose. Commander in Chief comes to mind. An unlikely similarity but possible...

and brian, while picking on the TVS bloggers about their lack of love for Heroes, you left out the dig in even this short announcement:
"Critics are calling Heroes the "break out" hit of the fall, but I think that title is reserved for Ugly Betty."

C'mon guys, how would you like it if someone publically berated you when you sucked at your job? We all make mistakes and do work we're not always proud of, but having it hammered home is unpleasant. Let's just revel in the fact that Heroes is staying around for a full season and leave it at that.

Nick, you're right of course.
I just couldn't help poking a little fun at the "official" TVS bloggers on this one since they're typically so derogatory towards Heroes while overly enthralled, IMO, with Studio 60.
I love this site, the news and the comments. Sometimes I just don't understand the favoritism so I couldn't resist a little tweaking just this once. :)

The show still sucks and the TVS bloggers are right.. But that doesn't mean people still won't watch it. Look at all the crap on tv people watch.. And it can't be a break-out hit; because NBC was calling it a hit before it even aired.

I like this show, so far, mostly because of Hiro. I feel that Kidnapped deserved to be dropped--I found it boring.

Perhaps networks need to take into consideration the on-line viewers in formulating ratings.

I frakkin' thought this show was lame when it premiered. And I thought it was going to be just as bad as last seasons SURFACE(sux). Hell, it even has the same-voiced "lets catch you up" narrator at the beginning that SURFACE did.
But...
The show keeps improving w/ each new episode. I do think some of the visual aesthetic is very mundane, "cut and paste", if you will. Series like BATTLESTAR GALACTICA, LOST or 24 have really raised the bar for the "look" of tv series. HEROES needs a boost in this area. Especially when you deal w/ superheroes. Sure, Hiros' FX scenes were great, and the cheerleader FX stuff nice. But it looks a lot like the crappy SURFACE visually.
I have definitely been TiVoing this show now, because I'm hooked on the developing story. But there is definitely room for improvement.
