Here's why The Knights of Prosperity has been delayed

The Knights of ProsperityWhen Anna reported on CBS's schedule changes yesterday, she also mentioned that ABC is pushing back the premiere of the highly-anticipated comedy The Knights of Prosperity from its planned premiere on Oct. 17. Now, according to ABC, the show might not appear until mid-season, perhaps as late as January.

So the show must be having problems, right? Wrong, at least not according to the network. ABC thinks the show is so good that they want to promote it outside the craziness of this crowded fall season. "You really need to focus, you need to spend money and you need to surround the audience with these openings," ABC Entertainment president Steve McPherson told the Los Angeles Times.

McPherson might have the right idea. The verison of the pilot I saw at the show's New York Television Festival premiere was much funnier than the rough-cut version ABC sent out over the summer. Now, it could have been because I was in a theater full of people laughing, but I did feel that the pacing was better and there were more laughs, especially at the beginning of the re-edited pilot. ABC knows it has a gem on its hands and wants to make sure it doesn't get lost in the shuffle.

Look at what's happening with Kidnapped; it's a quality show that's being overwhelmed by the shows premiering around it, and it's about to be shitcanned because of it. ABC must be seeing this and doesn't want Knights to suffer the same fate. It's an interesting bit of restraint on the part of the network. It's too bad they didn't treat Sons & Daughters with the same kid gloves last year.
