(S01E06) Whew, I was scared there for a moment. When this week's episode began without seeing a horrendously mangled body in the first 30 seconds I thought that Bones was about to 'jump the shark'. I was especially fearful when Booth and Bones entered the murder scene (after a very interesting conversation about Booth's reaction to elevator music) to see intact bodies. Luckily they came across a charred skeleton near the end of the first scene, so my fear ebbed. Then, they found a second unrecognizable skeleton hanging from a light fixture, and I could breathe easily again. Especially since the second body was the focus of an entertaining episode.
Read on, true believers.
I have to tell you, Emily Deschanel as Doctor Temperance Brennan, otherwise known as "Bones", really had a great episode. I don't remember her being so frank to so many people since the second season began. She was particularly brusque to State Department representative Alex Radzwill, who is a little person. She went off on Radzwill several times about his need to push around taller people because of his lack of height. Many of the lines she got out were very funny. Oh, also this week, she needed to get a translation from Booth about something Radzwill said. Good to see that the shoe sometimes fits on the other foot.
In general, everyone had a good performance this week. I am really enjoying the scenes at the Jeffersonian Institution sans Booth or Bones (who seems to be distancing herself from the rest of the team). We finally got to see a little bit more of Zach Addy. While he is respectful to his superiors Zach does seem to have a bit of a devilish side underneath his scholarly frame. He loves to give digs to Booth when describing unusual findings on their victims. He also interacts really well with Jack Hodgins. When those two get together it's like teenage boys playing with a chemistry set. Oh, and speaking about Jack, the sexual tension is growing between him and Angela. When those two are together in a scene you can just see it all around them. As I said last week, get these two kids together.
Let's talk a bit about this week's case: the murder of a waitress at a, I guess, hotel (wasn't quite sure where). I really had no idea who the murderer was until the very end. I love this stuff, because it allows the viewer to follow along with the evidence and the logic to see if they come up with the conclusion faster than their television counterparts. It's almost like the classic board game Clue, except with many more dead bodies. This mystery had plenty of twists and turns to keep moving my attention to another suspect.
One more thing to talk about this time around . . . Seely Booth, Real American Hero. Many leading men in crime dramas have plenty of gray edges to them. Not Booth, who is truly a white hat hero. He proved it this week when he disposed of fake evidence that could have been used to get the murderer to confess that she had killed the waitress. Even though the didn't respect the diplomatic immunity that the murderer hid under, he abided by the decision. Booth is really a good man.
All right. Bones is off for a few weeks due to baseball (go Yankees and Mets!), so you and I won't see each other until after the World Series.

Enjoyed this weeks ep too. And the Jack-Angela scenes have been great. I love the way they're playing that side of the story.
Go YANKEES :D

I thought this episode was pretty good...but the thing that stood out to me most about it was Angela and Hodgins.
I know I've said it before, but they have such great chemistry, and I love their not so subtle flirting. ANd although I'm enjoying their flirting and all, I seriously can't wait for the 2 of them to get together.
I wonder how long that's gonna take. lol.

Danny Woodburn is a great actor, I hope somebody casts him in another series again soon. (Two highlights for me in his career - as Kramer's buddy Mickey on 'Seinfeld' and as that troll on 'Special Unit 2'.)

Two things annoyed me about this show. First, they took a step backward with Cam and the whole evidence thing; it really seemed out of character for what they've been building up to over the last few weeks. Two, I got sick of all the "little person" jokes; they really became obscene as the episode came to a close. Brennan is upset because Cam would use fake evidence to get a killer to confess, and now can't trust her, but sees no problem in attacking someone simply because they're different and won't agree with their stance on an issue. Even for the Brennan character that seemed off the wall. It tainted my whole opinion of the episode. The only bright spot was Angela and Hodgins. In fact, I love that the writers are utilizing the supporting cast more.

One of the things I think that the writers were trying to show was that Brennan has no social skills or tact. Her insistence on making the jokes and all were making everyone uncomfortable and she just didn't get it. I mean, I wouldn't want to hang around her for very long! But I do like the flirtation between Hodgins and Angela, they made the show much better, in my opinion.

Hmmm - yah this epi could have been much better.
The Bad (where to begin)
- poorly place Brennan jokes
- hodgins flirting was way too direct
- what are they trying to accomplish here?
- sexual tension is better when it isn't direct
- I like the BB sexual tension, lets keep it going
The Good
- Brennan separating from the group, interested to see where that goes.
- Cam rubbing Booth's head, loved it. Funny how the others noticed but Brennan didnt
- Zac getting more time
- I liked Brennan tellin Booth he did the right thing
Questions:
- Why was Booth saying Cam shouldn't picture him naked. Was this flirting or is he really scared that the squints find out? He acts like he doesn't want Brennan to know he hooks up. What's the dealie there. I'm not a man so if there is one on the board, please explain.
Overall: 6.8

Deschanel did a good job?! Only compared to the deplorable job she did at the last escene from the last week episode! Sorry but her delivery of the major part of her lines was poor at best. The only good was the "pie" one. She was a total poor, cheap and bad acted imitation of House. The only difference, at least House is a j**rk, she doesn't know she is. Please. And the jokes about little people? What was that a Jim Carrey movie? A SNL bad episode where all the people laugth because some stupid joke? Please.
