I was thinking of this scenario the other day. What if the FCC or the cable providers or the God of Television (stay with me here people) declared that you could only have one TV network coming into your house? Which network would you pick? I'm not talking about throughout history, I'm talking about the networks that exist right now and the shows that exist on the lineups right now.
This is hard for me, because every single network has something that I absolutely love. Well, OK, maybe not The CW, but every other network. ABC has Lost and The Nine coming up, but I didn't pick ABC. CBS has 60 Minutes and Old Christine, but I didn't pick CBS either. CNN has all the latest news, FOX has Family Guy and The Simpsons, and HBO has Entourage, Bill Maher, and movies, but I didn't pick them either.
I'd have to go with NBC. While I like the above networks and shows and would seriously miss them, I could not live without The Office and Studio 60. And it would be nice to be able to still see The NBC Nightly News, SNL (even if it is really lame now), Today, Wimbledon coverage, and My Name Is Earl.
But Letterman, The Price is Right, and the U.S. Open are on CBS. Damn it! Well, I guess I could go over to the house of a friend who has only CBS, right?
Which network would you pick?

I went down my Tivo Season Pass Manager just to see what network I plugged in the most. This would be a tough choice because I really don't associate shows with networks anymore thanks to Tivo. It changes my channels for me, makes sure I don't miss anything and saves it until I have time to watch. Do I stick with the tried and true shows that I have watched for years or for the newer shows that are different and hopefully continue to be good? My favorite show that I can not miss is Gilmore Girls. I know it's not up to par anymore and showing signs of age but it is still the one show that makes me want to sit down and watch it, commercials and all at 8 pm on Tues nights. But I can't pick a network for one show.
It's probably a draw between ABC and CBS. I think I watch about the same number of shows on both networks. I like the crime shows on CBS with Cold Case, Without a Trace, the original CSI. I like the dramas on ABC with Lost, Grey's, Housewives and my new favorite Men In Trees. I like the mix of the two networks. Maybe I should just give up my addiction and just pick the Food Network and let it go. On the other hand, my husband would pick FOX for House and 24 but if ESPN was a choice, it would win hands down.

It would be a VERY hard decision, but in the end I too would have to chose NBC, I couldn't get though the week without the office and Studio 60 is one of my favorite new shows.
And while I'm a huge fan of House and Bones and How I met your mother....we could still get them on DVD right?
I think it would be the hardest at 12:30 at night when I would tune into Conan not Craig Ferguson. Now, don't get my wrong, Conan is great, but I LOVE and would greatly miss Craig Ferguson.

Definitely NBC. I don't know what I'd do at 1 a.m. if it weren't for Late Night with Conan O'Brien.

Great question Bob!!!
For me it would certainly be NBC as well.
The Office, Heroes, Scrubs, and Studio 60 are now my top four shows bar none. And I really like Earl, SVU, and Las Vegas. So I would get a pretty good schedule.
I would miss Lost, Boston Legal and How I Met Your Mother, but I could live without these, and not with my top four.
NBC all the way!!! That is why it hurts to not see them on top. Frankly I think they have the best comedies and dramas right now.

oh my what a toughy!
ABC has Lost and General Hospital
CBS has How I Met Your Mother
Bravo has Project Runway and a plethora of other shows I get sucked into during marathons.
NBC has SNL, Office, Today, and Conan
I think my vote is NBC as well. Though I would never sink low enough to watch Days of Our Lives just for a soap-fix. For that I might have to bribe someone who picked ABC for daily GH recordings.

I'd pick NBC too. It's always been my favorite network. And when it gave The Office a chance to grow even though it was getting such horrible ratings. NBC made me love it more. I like that NBC prefers quality over ratings. And that even though they will cancel a show, if it's a really good show they do their best to give it a chance, in spite of ratings. Look at Boomtown and Scrubs. Even though they had their problems with Scrubs, fact is it never had the ratings to make it a hit, but NBC kept it around for five(?) seasons, even if they did shuffle it around. Point is they kept it and any true scrubs fans found it whereever it was.
I'm an NBC girl all the way.

The easiest question I'm likely to get today. Or this week. Or this year. Or ... oh, that's enough.
HBO.
And if somehow I was only able to get one show, and it was on my teevee 24/7, I wouldn't mind spending all my waking hours watching episodes of The Wire over and over and over.
Wait a minute, I do that already!

I watch the shows, not the networks, but if I really had to choose, I think I'd go with HBO. But then the FCC (or whoever) would have to also make it free.

Fox because of 24, House, Bones and Football. I would like to add FX to the mix if I could, it is owned by Fox. Nip/Tuck and The Shield.

Wow, what a tough call! I would almost consider giving up Studio 60 and The Office just to watch The Late Show with David Letterman on CBS every night. While nothing makes me laugh more than Dave, nothing on television affects me the way Sorkin's writing does on Studio 60. Matt Perry will win an Emmy this year, I think that's almost a given. But ouch, to give up Dave....I haven't missed a single Late Show in 6 years thanks to TiVo. Ventriloquist Week was pure genius, and my favorite bit is the simple yet effective Fun Facts. Makes me laugh every night. I can barely endure the 30-second promos for Leno. The other problem is that there's nothing else on NBC that even remotely interests me outside of maybe Heroes and Conan. Back and forth, back and forth, but right now the decision is....... ..... .... NBC. I haven't looked forward to Mondays this much EVER. :)

So, NBC Bob? You might have to watch Leno ;)
I'd probably go ABC so that I can watch Lost and spend the rest of the week talking about it.

ABC did what you are supposed to do when you are falling behind and desperate: Innovate. When NBC was in the toilet they banked on stars: Cosby, Bochco and Coleman and got lucky with a few others.
When CBS was underground it went to a formula: Get the old people and spice up SOMETHING for the youth. When they hit on CSI, the EYE became the forensics network.
When FOX started it went after the urban and the young and it never really relinquished that mantle.
But ABC gave us Lost. It gave us Desperate Housewives. It even innovated a little bit with Gray's. It is putting a (Latin based) show about an ugly person on the most powerful time slot. Is it going to kill it? Is it giving it a chance? I don't know. All I know is that, when push came to shove ABC took (some) chances.
So, I will take the alphabet network, thanks. Plus, don't shows on ABC just LOOK better? Has anyone else noticed that each network has it's individual look. You can almost tell which net you are watching based on the cinematography.
Maybe I am deluded.

My first instinct would be to pick ESPN, but I think I would get tired of nothing but sports all day every day. So I'd have to go w/ NBC. I'd have the Office, Studio 60, Conan, Passions and Sunday Night Football. Then I could add in the Today Show and Oprah too.
