(S05E02) One of the things I always found interesting about CSI: Miami was that out of the three shows in the franchise, Miami is the only one that really played up the specialties of it's cast. You know what I'm talking about. Delko is an expert recovery diver, Calleigh has expertise in firearms and ballistics, and Speedle (great character) had a skill too but I forget what. Not sure what Wolfe does but I think Boa Vista is good with DNA or something like that.
Anyway, my whole point here is that the show is unique because it does that. It's like some sort of super team and it looks like we're finally going to get some backstory this season on where everyone honed their skills. First up? Calleigh.
Turns out Calleigh got her training coming up in the ranks of the ATF. We didn't find out why she left (probably had something to do with her father if I had to guess), but she did have a relationship with another ATF agent at the time. He turned up in this episode as an undercover man who had infiltrated a biker gang that the CSIs were looking at.
I wonder if this new gang (they're called The Crypt Kings) will be the new thorn in Horatio's side this season, just like the Male Noche gang was last year? I hope they don't go that way though because now it's a stale idea. It's been done.
There's actually only a few other things I wanted to mention because for the most part, this was a pretty standard episode. Nothing too crazy happened. First off was Stetler. He and Horatio had a run-in midway through the episode and Horatio needed some help tracking a gun shipment. I thought it was pretty neglectful of the writers to have Stetler not even mention Yelina's return even once. He'd been dating her (and was presumably in love with her) when Horatio helped her and Ray run away to Brazil. Well she was back in town last week. Are you honestly going to tell me that Stetler never found out about that? To me that's just sloppy work to ignore something as glaringly obvious as that. And besides, if we've learned anything about Rick Stetler in his 20 or so guest appearances... nothing gets by this guy.
Anyone else notice how the visual style of the show has changed a lot too? A lot more split screen stuff, alá 24. It works though. Makes transitions move a lot faster and they're edited together very crisply. I think it looks good.
Another thing that caught me off guard was when Delko brought Cooper out in the field to help with the collection of all that oil from the motorcycles. I wonder if they're planning on doing the same thing with Cooper that they did with Eric on the original CSI and transition him from the lab to the field? And if so, does that mean someone else would be written off the show. That'd be odd since Natalia just got promoted to the field.
OK, enough ranting. Might want to tune in for next week's episode though. It's the 100th installment of the series.

I used to like CSI:Miami quite a bit, but over the last year, I have just found it to be downright cheesy and it now ranks third for me as far as CSI goes. I think the production is killer - I love the coloring that goes into each scene, no matter how unrealistic it is, but the acting, plot lines, and the whole direction of the show just completely lost me last season.

I used to defend CSI Miami, when people would say they do not like it, but i can not defend last night's episode. The promos on TV showed Calleigh crashing into a cannal, so I though, wow, this looks really good. In reality, she crashed within the first 5 minutes, and it really served no purpose. The entire episode was pointless.

I liked this episode clearly it just your normal CSI: Miami episode. I agree about the super team thing too because they remind me of family called the Fantastic Four (unique abilities and save people lives.) Maybe thats why the writing has been over dramatic because watching the show is like reading a comic book. I did noticed that they added new moving layers just like intro which was pretty cool. I know this show can be chessy and unreal buts its paradise, its fantasy Miami, and I want to be there watching on Monday Nights.

Sorry, but I think this show is the worst show on TV. Besides the acting (No emmy's here), the storylines are getting to be over the top. The coloring is so fake it actually hurts my eyes. I stopped watching it. I am impressed with the CSI vegas. Some may call it-non flashy but the storylines are great and the actors can actually act. I like a good old fashion murder story not gucci shades and fast cars. How unreal is that and how many real CSI's actually have that? It's just a matter of time before people get sick of the flash-Miami Vice is a good example. Also, I'm am not to impressed with the Miami cast always talking bad about the CSI Vegas cast. It shows bad form and CSI Vegas gave Miami their start. CSI Vegas was upset at the spin-offs not the actors. I think CSI Miami are letting the flash get to their heads. Kudos to the CSI Vegas cast and series for always being "real".

What's with all the stupid storylines, bad acting and over the top effects? I hate that splitting of the screen stuff. I am not going to watch this show anymore. I gave it another chance (I hated last season). I give up. So the producers want to wow us with the special effects to take away from the bad acting and storylines since they can't come up with anything new? Or perhaps they are bucking for a "technical" emmy award since they never get nominated. At least CSI Vegas does. I agree with the person who said "Kudos" to CSI Vegas. You get my vote as the best and the cast of Maimi better stop talking bad about the original show cast. I think it was Adam Rodriguez whose been talking trash in interviews-what a bad sport you are and a bad actor who is using this latino wave to get by.

I do NOT understand why CSI-Miami is so popular with people. David Caruso has to be the absolute WORST actor on the face of the earth. With his phony monotone voice (I just heard his real voice on Entertainment Tonight) and his 2 poses....hand on one hip or hands on both hips, and his ridiculously cocked head.............he ruins the whole show for me. I am a HUGE CSI fan, but I just cannot watch this one, and I would really like to. I think the rest of the cast is very good.

I don't think these folks are watching the same CSI-Miami shows that I am. I think that the show has improved each year. As far as David Caruso is concerned, I think the way that they have him interact with children is wonderful, and wish that more of our police officers in their real life work would do the same.

How does CSI Miami stay in the top 100? The subplots of the main characters are getting so ridiculous-excuse me, HAVE been ridiculous for 2 years. Tonight, Boa Vista's ex showed up and threatened her. He was in jail for breaking her arm and he got a restraining order against her, for her pushing him away?? Where are the "actual" police on this show? Nobody should have been able to cross a crime scene that was being processed. Then he shows up at another crime scene as a crime scene cleaner! and because he's got a restraining order against her, he gets HER kicked off the scene. Do the writers on the show belive the viewers are so stupid that we'd believe that could happen in any reality? I only suffer thru this show because my husband watches it but I certainly don't suffer in silence. It's too bad they killed off Horatio's wife instead of him, maybe that would have improved the show 99.9%. What acting couch told Caruso that tilting his head to the side is dramatic, it's only makes him look like he's got a medical problem.

Speedle was a trace expert, Ryen replaced him in that field when he died, Boa Vista originally was suppose to work DNA in cold cases.
They more then likely won't do anything with Cooper because he was brought into the field before and they've already got a lab rat/lab person who went from the lab to the field (Greg [CSI], Hawkes [CSI: NY], now Boa Vista), plus he never expressed any real interest in enjoying being in the field.
No comments on Boa Vista being in the field. That's a rant not meant to be posted as a comment.

I think CSI Miami is a great show. CSI Las Veas is my favourite, but I like Miami second. I know that Horatio can be over the top alot of the time, and I have to admit. That does get sooo annoying. But for those of you who don't like the way he poses, it's because he actually does have a problem with his eyes. It's a long story, but one of his eyes turn in if he looks directly at someone. That's why he never looks directly at a person.
CSI Miami doesn NOT have bad actors. When Ryan got shot with the nail gun, Jonathan Togo did an amazing job. He acted amazing in that episode. Kudos to HIM. Emily Procter is another great actor.
I don't agree with Natalia Boa Vista being a CSI, especially after Anne Donahue said that the person who was a mole was going to get fired. She has lied so much. I won't ramble on about Natalia here, I already have in many other places.
