The battle over the name Supernova was going on throughout this past season of CBS's Rockstar. In the end, a judge ruled that Tommy Lee and his band could not record or perform using the name. That left everyone, some of us anyway, wondering just what the new name would be, and now we have that answer.Rock Star Supernova
Yeah, ok. I'm a little underwhelmed by that. I suppose it's different enough to get around the legalities, but if you are going to go to the trouble of changing the name anyway, why not go back to the drawing board and do it right? The band is currently at work on their record with a tour kicking off over the New Year's holiday. And if you just can't wait, they have released two songs, complete with Lukas Rossi vocals, on Yahoo music.

Very underwhelmed. Between the three of them, now four w/ Lucas - they couldn't come up with something better?

Does it really matter? They are just going to release one CD, go on tour, and then that fade away.
This band is all about the tv show, it isn't a serious band. We aren't going to buying Rock Star Supernova CD's for years to come, it is going to be one and done.

Right you are Dave. I fixed it. I also did a quick google search for 'lucas rossi'. Man, that mistake is going to be following him around forever.

Come on, it was obvious from the moment the ruckus started that this was the only alternate name the band could take. If they called themselves "Collapsar" or "Stellar Explosion" or really anything else...they'd be throwing away all the audience name recognition the show built up over several weeks on the air, which was the whole point of the exercise to begin with. They need the name which makes everyone automatically think "that's the band from the tv show" and not have to hunt for the fine print in the ad reading "as seen on tv's Rock Star: Supernova" in 6 point type.

Isn't a Supernova something that burns very bright for a short time and then suddenly sucks so much it turns into into a black hole?
I think Rock Star Supernova is a totaly appropriate name.
