(S04E03) It's finally here. We told you about it months ago and now the day has arrived. Mario Lopez is on Nip/Tuck. Despite my excitement, I'm kind of creeped out by him. Just look at his eyes in that picture. Plus he's giving Christian butt lipo, which is a horrible thing to think about by itself. Actually, now that I think about it, forget the character he's playing (rival plastic surgeon Mike Hamoui), I'm creeped out by Lopez period. He's everywhere right now. Plenty of stations still air Saved by the Bell reruns, he's on The Bold and the Beautiful, and now he's making headlines on Dancing with the Stars. Enough!
Despite "The Lopez Factor" (that's right, I'm naming it), this was an outstanding episode. By far the best one so far this season. Plenty happened, most notably the birth of Connor McNamara, Sean and Julia's new son.
The episode began with one of the funniest Nip/Tuck moments that I can remember. Sean and Christian entered the office to find Liz and Nurse Linda watching something on YouTube. Turns out one of Christian's past flames posted a sex tape on the web. Christian was decked out in a stethoscope and the clip was entitled "Naughty Doctor." Funny stuff, especially when the end of the clip focused in on his pasty white ass. If anything though, this just goes to show you what a fixture YouTube has become in our world now. It's everywhere and understood to the point that it can be weaved into the story of a prime-time show and everyone is on the same page. That's pretty cool if you think about it because a year ago I don't think I knew what YouTube was.
Anyway, moving on. The video freaked Christian out and he decided he needed tons of lipo, but Sean wasn't going to perform the operation. Enter Dr. Hamoui. Christian met him at the gym.
In the men's shower.
So they were naked.
Again, the entire homosexual vibe surrounding Christian was used to no end. Will this ever have a satisfying conclusion? Actually, what would qualify as a satisfying conclusion to this story anyway? Regardless, the two struck up a conversation (after it was determined that Christian was checking out Mike's backside and not his front) and Mike offered to do the lipo that Sean passed on. Because of that, Christian missed the birth of Connor. So as it stands right now, there are some bad feelings between Sean and his partner.
Elsewhere, Liz made a mistake with Michelle when she brought up the parking lot incident. Naturally, based on what she saw, Liz thought Michelle was a lesbian and had just not come out yet. Liz offered an ear if Michelle ever wanted to talk to someone. Worried that her secret might get out (we still don't know what that secret is), Michelle chose to fire Liz on grounds of sexual harassment. Sean stepped in though and got Michelle to just place Liz on some sort of probation. I didn't really buy this whole storyline though. There are so few characters on this show right now anyway, that it just wouldn't serve any purpose to write one of them out. I hope they can find a better storyline for Liz because I really do like her character. She's being under-utilized right now.
Then came some fireworks. In preparation for the baby, Sean and Julia began interviewing some nurses to help out. Random to see Peter Dinklage in a cameo here but I love him and based on the previews, I think we'll be seeing more of him since Julia hired him. But the first nurse they interviewed was Monica Wilder. Her qualifications were excellent, she was sweet, and seemed to know her stuff. There was no reason she shouldn't have been the McNamara's pick. Then Sean drove Monica home. During the ride, Oasis' "Wonderwall" came on the radio (great song) and next thing you knew, the two of them were getting it on in a hotel bed. So clearly, with all the things going on in Sean's world right now, we know what his priorities are.
This episode poses a lot of questions though:
-
What's going on with Michelle, and now that Liz knows something is up, will she keep digging?
-
Will Julia find out why Monica backed out of the job?
-
Is Dr. Hamoui going to be Christian's first male encounter? If the way they were getting along in this episode is any indication...
-
What about the surgery on Connor's hands? Julia is apprehensive about it now.
Best Quote:
Christian (upon seeing himself in the sex video): "Holy sh*t, is that my ass?!?"

sean having sex with monica pretty much ruined everything. it was predictable. from the moment the idea that he would take her came about. i knew they were going to have sex. it seemed pointless to me. uhhggg. so frusterated.!

I agree Mario looked gay-nothing wrong with that-but I was laughing and told my husband that whole shower scene-him washing his body was SO GAY!! But I hope Christian finds what he needs to feel whole again-he has issies he needs to deal with-and if it turns out he is bi-then so be it. Sean on the other hand--WHAT WAS HE THINKING!!!! and Julia next week looks like there maybe some sexual tone between her and the male nurse-can't anyone on this show have sex with whom they are married to??--LOL, but then again-it would not be Nip/Tuck if they did--LOL
Matt is SO into the Scientology-it maked me think Kimber has really done a job on him-due to the fact that he is vunerable right know and needs something he can control. But hey, if it worked for John TRavoltra-then more power to him--LOL
Love this show and love DR TRoy!! A note about last season--I would have worn the bag Christian--LOL

Toomey, you ignorant slut ...
Don't you watch the previews? Clearly there is a big storyline developing with Liz and Michelle.
I thought the opening scene was too contrived. I know Nip/Tuck isn't representative of the real world, but can you imagine watching a sex tape of a colleague ... in the workplace?
The best scene (to me) was the long, silent look between Sean and Julia after Conor was born. What a perfect portrayal of GUILT!

I agree with Jorden. Sean's sleeping with Monica was pointless. It doesn't fit with any of the themes established for this season. Not that I think he and Julia will last, but I think it should be because of Lobster Boy, not infidelity.

How did they manage to get all those different camera angles in the sex video, particularly cutting back and forth on Christian and the woman's faces? Why couldn't they just make it look realistic, it wouldn't have been very difficult.

This episode was mediocre, and Mario Lopez certainly didn't help. I just have a horrible feeling that Mario will be doing Christian in the ass in an upcoming episode. He's just creepy.
Please do not make Christian bi or a homo. If he is, I'll have to stop watching the show.
