Jay Leno will welcome one Jessica Rose to the Tonight Show in his second segment tonight. Jessica is the real name of the actress who has played the role of YouTube's lonelygirl15. In a series of video blogs posted to the site, the 16 year old lonelygirl15, also known as Brie, relates her story dealing with romantic confusion and overbearing parents, among other things. As the posts became more popular, people began digging deeper. On September 12th, the website Top Of The Tube published a video identifying Rose as the actress playing lonelygirl15. As it all has come out, tonight she will appear with Leno to set it all straight. The show will also feature Julia Louise-Dreyfus, Jude Law, and Bob Seger. Online blogs have a very unfortunate side-effect: loss of respect for the importance of personal privacy. While that has sad implications for the individual, it has profound implications for society at large.
The urge to express oneself and be understood is natural, but those goals can only be fully met in intimate relationships. What cruel irony that these bloggers do not realize that such goals cannot truly be met in an anonymous, virtual relationship.
