MSNBC just this afternoon broke the news that Duane "Dog" Chapman, star of the Dog the Bounty Hunter reality show on A&E, was arrested in at his home by United States Marshals for an extradition hearing to Mexico. Mexican authorities are requesting that Chapman be extradited for kidnapping charges related to Chapman's capture of Andrew Luster.[Update: Chapman, his brother, Tim, and son, Leland were apprehended
Luster is a Max Factor heir, and when Dog first caught him in 2003, Dog spent three days in a Mexican jail over the incident. Dog the Bounty Hunter was in the midst of producing its fourth season during this most recent arrest. Luster is currently serving time on three rape convictions.]

Okay - am I understanding this right? Mexico is insisting on "Dog" being charged for removing a rapist from their country?

I agree with emily as well, and if bounty hunting was illegal wouldnt the police from mexico give dog the bounty hunter notice of this or no? So not only is he in jail for this but so shouldnt be officials who didnt state the rules at hand. I do not think this is right at all, I think that Dog the bounty hunter and his family do what is right, and he shouldnt be arrested for taking care of a person who commits crimes anywhere...

I agree 100% with Emily and Monica. Is Mexico supporting the rapists, murderers and other felons by this law? You be the judge!

They want to take a hero like Dog and Tim and his son in for taking a rapest out of their contury? I think Mexico likes filth in their country. The US needs to step in and do some thing. They were happy to get their man, now help the guys who got him for you.

As a Fugitive Recovery Agent I may not always like the way "Dog" operates but I also know that Luster would have avoided facing charges otherwise. I may not agree with his actions but I agree with the results. Luster deserves everything the law would allow. I think the Mexican government is pushing this for some other reason. Who knows why? I'm sure that "Dog" will be back home in short order. I also wouldn't be suprised if A&E doesn't have their lawyers waiting for him when he arrives.

I agree with all the above comments.
And how ridiculous is it that a country which openly supports the illegal crossing of the USA/Mexico border into our country insist on any law being upheld on their behalf?

I think that what Dog did was right thing. That man needed to be served for all the wrong doing that he did. The man got what was coming to him. Dog will be home in not time.

For all of the respondants above, how would you feel if a Mexican citizen came to the United States in pursuit of another Mexican citizen and broke American laws in the process? There are rules and laws to follow in the extradition process and the enforcement of those laws is not flexible based on the seriousness of the crime the pursued is accused of committing. If Mexican officials did not commit sufficient resources to catch Luster on their own, knowing that he was a legitimate threat to the safety of Mexican citizens, then it's on the Mexican government's heads if Luster were to strike again.
Luster is now behind bars and having known more than my share of women who've been raped, there's nobody happier that he's incarcerated than I am. But let's just change a few details in the story and look at it a different way. What if it were Chinese bounty hunters that came to America to abduct an escaped Chinese prisoner. Should the Chinese bounty hunters have free reign to do as they wish on American soil in pursuit of their prey? If those bounty hunters broke any Americaa laws I guarantee you'd be calling for their heads to be arrested and had they returned to China without being arrested, to be extradited to the United States for trial.

This is rubbish. Absolute rubbish. The Mexican government is almost as unbelievable as our own. The US Marshals office claims they didn’t know where Andrew Luster was. So instead of a thank you for the assist, they storm Dog's home in the early morning hours. They know full well where Roman Polanski is, and they do nothing. He is still being offered Academy Awards. Dog did something and he is being arrested three years later. He arrested a rapist and turned him in to the Mexican authorities. Then they promptly arrested Dog and associates. If Andrew Luster’s rights had been so violated why didn’t they release him on the spot? If his arrest and detention were illegal, why was he not released immediately? The Thai government threw Karr out as an undesirable person. Mexico waits three years then prosecutes the captor. Until now I have disagreed with the border policy changes. I thought they were too much too fast. Now I hope they build a wall forty feet high. Maybe if the Mexican government were more concerned with the issues that force these people to flee, illegally and very dangerously, they will be too busy to make an example of someone that gets up and serves his community every day.

I say the Feds are just jealous that DOG got the man before they could go through the government red-tape Bulls**t. If there is any real justice in this corrupt society we have had to put up with for years (thanks to the greedy, corrupt government, its agencies, & money hungry businesses) then they should send the millions of illegals aliens back to Mexico and let us keep DOG!

Ok, first of all, bounty hunter's deal with criminals. They should be able to use force considering they are putting up their own money to free these sacks of shit. So when they run on them, my first impulse would be to find them by any means necessary to feed my children. Secondly, Dog has always used pepperspray and other less aggressive tactics in order to apprehend individuals. And yes, maybe his speaches are a little annoying but you can tell the man genuinly cares about showing people another way. Now as far as the comment about a "What if it were Chinese bounty hunters that came to America to abduct an escaped Chinese prisoner." Well, here's the thing AMERICA does cooperate with interpol and other agencys worldwide to assist those looking for their criminals. Obviously Mexico would much rather protect their invading criminals! I don't think that there would be a public outcry if it was a serial rapist who was facing 124 years. I would shake the policeman/bondsman's hand and THANK HIM for saving someone else! Peoples priority's are all screwed up now. Hey, I bet your the type of person to sue the EMT for breaking your ribs while saving your life by using CPR! FREE DOG!! This is just wrong on so many different levels!

It's all a crock! Dog has helped hundreds of people, and is a good person. The fact that the United States wants to lay down and take it from Mexico on this just proves how overly F***ed up our own goverment is. He's a US FREAKING CITIZEN, he has rights, and to think his children were home. What about Leland's kids? Did they get to see daddy being dragged out in the same handcuffs he uses. What kind of image is that for a child???
I for one, am all for the Chapmans and their work, and as one of thier fans will stand behind them and send them my prayers during this extremely troubling time.

Tragedy! The Dog did a good job getting rid of a rapist and now 3 years later Mexico is upset! I hope he is free soon.
Mexico is never upset when their citizens, illegallly in the USA, commit crimes as long as they send some money back to Mexico!
The USA government is cooperating with Mexico because the wealthy corporate farmers want cheap Mexican labor that comes across the border illegaly to work for peanuts so the rich corporate farmers do not have to pay legal wages! Naturally the rich corporate farmers then claim no American wants the jobs they offer at slave labor wages!

The point that everyone is missing is that American laws do not extend across the border, like it or not. You'd think that someone in law enforcement would check to see what the laws of another country are. Shouldn't the lawyers or producers from A & E have done some research for Dog before he went into Mexico? You can't assume that what is legal in the U.S. is legal in Mexico or Canada, for that matter.
