(S01E12) Blade, we hardly knew you. But we got to know Krista, Chase and Marcus pretty well. Some other folks too, but they're mostly dead. I mean dead dead, not just undead. I'm hard pressed to think of a series with a body count this high, but I had fun. In this, our final first-season installment, we still need to get the purebloods out of the way, so that Blade can battle Marcus just as nature intended. Marcus, by the way, thinks Blade is playing right into his hands, and Shen tries to convince Blade that they have Marcus right where they want him thanks to Krista. Then, from that as a premise, spectacular (well, considering bugetary limitations, anyway) season-finale stuff happens.
For instance, Chase leads a team in the destruction of the dimly-lit Bladecave, snatching Shen in the process. Marcus then hopes to rely on Krista's "extensive knowledge of torture" from her time in Iraq to get the information on Blade's network out of Shen. She doesn't disappoint, and Shen has to suck it up and take a very rough manicure. Anything for the team. Shen has a really good episode, and some of his best moments all season. I especially like his "do you have any toilet paper" note gambit.
Meanwhile, Marcus -- believing Blade dead -- goes after the fabled (I guess) Sword of Cthon, which is still in the hands of the Purebloods. The Purebloods call a "conclave" -- a meeting of the entire House which is only held in extreme situations -- such as the introduction of Marcus's Aurora vaccine, or a season finale. Blade cuts himself in invitation, so to speak, and infiltrates the conclave so that everyone's on stage for the big showdown: Purebloods who are born as vampires, Infecteds (or "Turnbloods" -- that is, regular vampires like Marcus, Chase and Krista), and the Daywalker (Blade).
Marcus reveals the true secret of Aurora: it doesn't work on Purebloods, ha ha! But turns out Marcus doesn't quite have them over the barrel like he thinks he does. -Marcus is betrayed in a way that he would never have expected. I didn't see it coming at this late date either.
Blade shows up, Purebloods get gooified. Then it's Blade vs. Marcus with swords, and Krista vs. Chase with kung-fu. Incredibly, Krista seems to think Chase is dead -- even though she doesn't even get ashed. Marcus says what the entire audience must be thinking at this point: don't ever believe Chase is dead.
Blade and Shen roll out, arguing over whether they've really accomplished anything. Shen's pretty emotionally scarred from his torture, I'd say. Now everyone's on the run from the Purebloods. Wait, weren't we just told they were all killed? I guess there's always more pissed off Purebloods out there, looking down their immortal noses at Marcus.
Blade and his team, and Marcus and his team, will have to pull up stakes and emerge somewhere else down the road. But not before Marcus has one more secret of his own to reveal, regarding how he came to discover Blade's headquarters in the first place. He bares his fangs ... to be continued.
A good episode, a little abrupt, it left me wanting more, which is not a bad thing. What's your opinion? Did you enjoy the summer of Blade, and what would you like to see happen in a second season?

This show was definetly a fun summer diversion, and I thought the season finale didn't disappoint at all. A few suprises that did suprise. Chase going turncoat and then Marcus revealing he knew Krista was Blade's little mole were 2 things I didn't expect; especially the Krista part which they cliffhangered. Nice. Going into the season finale, I didn't know what to expect giving those show's penchant for a high body count, no matter who it is.
It's a shame that it took almost till the 9th epsiode for Sticky to hone his fighting skills. But the last few eps, he really came out. THe fights moved more smoothly, he knew how to move the sword and throw punches and kicks, and he finally seemed to be comfortable in Blade's shoes. But overall, he fit the bill as the B-Man.
I liked that they gave Shen some acting and screen time these past few eps, and he really came through.
Krista, oh Krista; what a smoking hawtie. Oh, yeah, she's a good actress, playing the tortured soul caught between two worlds.
A very good first season to what looks to be a promising series. I hope we hear second season news very soon.
Oh yeah, and who was the hot little blonde that the architect was going to plow through? Damn, she was fine; right down to the glyph tattoo on her ass.

I have to agree with you there, the finale felt rushed and abrupt. Why didn't they make it a 2 hour episode, like the pilot? Oh well.
Yes, there are other purebloods out there-- these were only for the House of Cthon. Here's my confusion lies-- I was under the impression that purebloods can't be killed, that they are truly immortal. So how did Blade kill Charlotte and Lurch through the usual ash means??? I am really confused about this.
I am also really disappointed by the death of the FBI agent Ray Collins. Not only was he the best actor on the show, but probably the most interesting character. I found his death to be an utter waste. How about using Collins as a spy in the FAMILIARS' network? Get a fake glyph, go back to his boss in the FBI, and FAKE his way into their underworld?
But, on an up note-- I do so love this show, and I am really hoping that Spike will pick it up for Season 2.

Only the Purebloods from the House of Chthon were killed. There are still eleven other Houses.

I (and most people I know that even started watching the show) gave up on this show like 5 epiosodes ago.
The acting was aweful, and honestly there was better stuff to watch (Eureka, Psych, CSI reruns on Spike).

I am very impressed with both the entire season and the season finale. What a cliffhanger! I did not expect anything that came about in the finale. It was perfect.
I eagerly watch every Wednesday... They have me hooked.
I have left feedback on SPIKE to have the show return for a second season. It would be a travesty if the show was left with an ending like that!

I agree with Sean. I stuck around for the first two episodes and decided it was way to over-the-top w/ lousy acting and obvious budgetary limitations. I'm sort of surprised this show still has an audience. Will there be a season two, I wonder?

Since I'm sitting here checking messages and blogs, I wondered if there was any news pertaining to a second season of Blade.
http://www.comicbookresources.com/news/newsitem.cgi?id=8291#storyContinued
CBR News does an interview with David Goyer (Sept. 6th to be exact). There's some interesting nuggets in here such as why they went with Sticky as opposed to Michael Jae White and that the forthcoming season one DVD set will be rated R. Scenes were filmed and dialogued for both the TV audience and then an R version for the DVD set. Full frontal nudity, sex, violence, and more blood for the DVD set! That rocks!
Oh yeah, and the second season is on the bubble according to David G. It could go either way, but he says that Spike was pleased with the performance of the show and how it turned out as they weren't sure what to expect.
I like how David says he checks messages boards for opinions on the show, and he says the same thing we all have been saying. That Sticky grew into his own Blade by around the 9th episode, and that the fight scenes got better.
Check out the link. Some good stuff for those of us who enjoyed the show.

I only lasted four or five episodes, but I'd consider coming back for a second season if they'd add one character (just one!) who hasn't had all the joy sucked out of them.
Come one people. The only way a comic book show's gonna work is if you have a little fun!

I have to agree with you overall. I was hoping the characters in the tv series would be more complex than the Wesley Snipes films and the writers did not disappoint.
My only complaint is the 12 episode half-season season. 24-26 episodes used to be the norm for a television season. Now, we have to wait another year for the new season. Gees!!!!

I like Blade: The Series. It is more gritty and raw than most tv fare and every episode was worthwhile. Marcus is a complex villian. In flashbacks (prior to becoming a vampire)he seemed a loving and devoted husband and now he is a cold blooded, the ends justify the means terror. He has no remorse in killing and will do whatever he has to make his schemes succeed. Blade is the perfect hero to square off against Marcus. He is hellbent on revenge and relentless. He blames the vampire world for what he is and will stop at nothing when it comes to making them pay. He is as remorseless about dispatching the vasmpires and their familiars as Marcus is about killing anyone that gets in his way. Krista and Chase are well drawn characters. Chase has totally given into her darkside and seems to revel in it. While Krista struggles with her vampiric urges and doing what she feels is the right or human thing to do (including helping Blade and Shen).
Blade: The Series is an all out adult oriented horror action show. There should be more of these shows on tv. For fans of the genre this show works incredibly well.

Blade Season 1 was Awesome.
It's refreshing to see such a viseral, visually stunning, artistic masterpiece with just a "SPIKE" (TV) of Gore on the air. :)
It is breath -takingly striking to see such a show in our time where most stuff on Tv nowadays is just dull fair.

Shen is not a familiar, apparently he had an incident with vampires in his past and has a vendetta against them. He has aligned himself with Blade to help seek his revenge.
This show totally rocks, I actually started watching mid-season, and loved it from that point. I went back and watched the first episodes mostly for background info, but as most of you have already said, they were not as good.
I seriously hope this show gets picked up for several more seasons, not just the second.
