(S10E06) Welcome back SG-1. Oh, how I enjoyed this episode. Initially I thought that the opening was going to bore me to tears, but heated up once Vala kicked the crap out of some small time robbers. SG-1's really getting it on - I wonder if they took the announcement that it's ending as a challenge. If the rest of the season is this good the SciFi channel is really going to get some hate mail.
Between the previews, TiVo's description and the intro, we knew Vala was getting abducted - so I'm glad that they got it out of the way early. Seeing another Goa'uld on Earth was refreshing - we haven't seen a new local bad guy for quite a while.
There's one thing that SG-1 has been missing for a while now. Straight up action. We've spent so much time having Alien gunfights where noone we like gets shot that the action has staled a bit. The action scenes in this episode really helped bring the show to life again.
During the memory session dredging session with Vala, I completely empathized with her. I wanted to strangle those hosers myself. The one in charge was exceptionally annoying. Once the five SG teams hit the safe houses (I really have to wonder about using obviously military personnel inside the U.S., usually they edge around that better.) Vala showed off again with some great action. The jump through the window was great.
Mitchell's character came through when he jumped on the motorcycle to save Vala. I love motorcycles, and it was gratifying to see a realistic chase scene for once.
Some of the funniest scenes came along when the team found Mitchell. Browder handcuffed to the bed, watching TV and eating junk food was priceless. I wonder how long it'll take him to live down losing his pants.
I actually got a little emotional when Daniel talked down Vala. I usually manage to turn that off for action flicks, but they did a great job with it. The 'Team Badges' bit was a wee bit cheesy. Ignoring that line, I fell over on my dog laughing about everyone giving him a look about the not-a-date.
It was just a great episode of SG-1. A few lines could have used a bit of polish, but I loved it.

That was frakking hysterical when they found Mitchell handcuffed to the bed, pants-less, eating twinkies and watching TV. I laughed my ass off (It's not what it looks like! - with a mouth full of food). And Carter's looks were priceless when they were discussing Cam always loses his pants.
I loved the character development of Vala and the interaction with Daniel. The wirters did an excellent job of fleshing out Vala (she runs cuz it second nature). Nice!
And dayum!!! What a hottie Athena is! Wonder if we'll see more of her (literally) in future eps?
Oh righjt, we can't because the the short sighted minds at Sci-Fi central cancelled the series!

It was a good episode, a lot of fun, and great Vala-centric story. I've said it before, and I'll say it again now, Claudia Black has been a breath of fresh air for this show. She good with both the comedy and the drama, and as usual she has great chemistry with both Browder and Shanks. I actually find the Trust more interesting then the Ori and wish they would focus on that more. As for the cancellation, Stargate SG-1 can have one of best season ever in terms of creativity, but if no one is watching SciFi isn't going to keep it. As time has passed, I actually think that it's good Stargate is leaving. Ten seasons is a long time for any show and it would be nice if Stargate went out with class instead of lingering on until everyone wishes they would leave.

I was so angry when SciFi cancelled Farscape, but was happy to see Ben Browder and Claudia Black on SG-1. Now that show is being cancelled! Why do they always cancel shows that I love? From now on if I like a new show, I am going to start telling people not to watch it so that it will not get cancelled.

Anyone know what or who makes the waffle Claudia Black is eating when she sits down near the bed in the hotel scene? They shoot in Vancouver Canada right? Is that something sold at a local supermarket there?

This episode had some of the worst editting I have ever seen. First the Vala-takes-down-the-robbers martial arts mess. While funny, they didn't even try to make it look like anything other than a stunt person doing the work. Then the motorcycle chase. Pop a wheelie? This must be the we-must-show-off-how-hero-ie-our-lead-male-action-hero-is-by-using-over-the-top-stunts part of the show. And the editting of the chase was terrible. It made the A-Team look polished.
The car crash? While I buy the driver losing control as Vala choked him, I don't buy Vala coming out without a scratch when she started out standing up draped over the drivers seat. Broken bones at the minimum, if not instant death.
Athetha the Goa'uld = wooden acting, zero menace. Unless we are supposed to be scared of a hostile takeover.
Kudos to Claudia Black! She emoted incredibly well considering she had to work with. Though Vala was majorly out of character. I thought amnesia made you lose memories, not basic personality. Apparently not in this case. Good this, as I can't stand S9 Vala.
I know the show was cancelled because they had the record, but I wish it would have gone out in style instead of this wreckage.
There were some good one-liners. Too bad they weren't paired with a decent plot and editor

I LOVED this episode. Mitchell handcuffed to the bed...and he lost his pants...again. He's never going to live that one down. I liked how this episode centered on Vala, & really fleshed out her character. It's refreshing that she's becoming more moralistic & we're finding out more about her. I loved the interaction between Vala & Daniel. Carter's expression when Vala & Daniel hugged, & the looks on everyone's faces at the "It wasn't a date!" line were great too.
I am seriously going to cry if they cancel this show. This is one of my favorite shows, and a favorite of A LOT of people. SciFi channel and/or whoever else that's behind this is crazy to cancel it.

"During the memory session dredging session with Vala, I completely emphatized with her. "
Needs fixing. Too many occurrences of "session" and there's no such word as "emphatized". I think you were going for "empathized".
For what it's worth, I wrote TV Squad about this using the "Contact Us" link because I thought it was something that should be handled privately. I don't want to be one of those idiots that points out every misspelled word, etc., but apparently nobody reads, or at least cares about, the messages through that route.
I may be the only one who cares, but such obviously screwy sentences should be corrected since I'm supposing you guys get paid to do this stuff.

I got your message and I *thought* this was fixed. However, I was busy making the change with my new 8 day old daughter asking for food, so It's possible it didn't get saved.
Thanks for the effort. I'll get it straightened out. Believe it or not, these reviews are a labor of love - It takes a good two hours to watch the show, review it and get the post up.

While it's been well over a decade since I've had to feed an infant of my own, I can empathize (sorry, I *had* to use that word!)with your situation. I want to publicly apologize to you for giving you a hard time when you have the most important job in the world; being a parent. There were many days when I had to bring one of my children to work, oftentimes holding a baby in my left arm while mousing and typing with my right, and I made PUHLENTY of mistakes trying to multitask like that.
Even with the lack of sleep heaped on top of the double-duty of parenting and doing your job, you managed to respond to me graciously when you had every right to be annoyed, which you may have been, but you were kind and professional.
Now I feel like a real heel. In fact, I feel so bad I'm not even going to point out that you still have the word "session" twice in the "Sentence O' Contention". :o)
Keep up the good work parenting and enjoy your children while they're still too young to talk back!

Don't worry about it. - TV squad is actually a fun challenge because I write my reviews very quickly without much time for the traditional editing process - and I usually write tech stuff. OpEd is a big leap in writing style and I'm still cutting my teeth on it.
You guys keep me on my toes - and that's a good thing!

Not Sure if this is in any past post being new in here but, there is a pitition going on at this link for fans to sign to protest and try to get SciFi Channel to bring SG1 back and so far they have over 31,000 signatures. Reading thru the postings there, there are alot of angry fans. From what I'm reading it's not the makers of SG1 MGM but SciFi Channel that is canceling the show. Please go there and post your protest. Let SciFi Ch. know that you are not going to let them do this without a fight.
I'm hoping MGM won't let the fans down and find another home for the show to continue on. With Ben Browder and Claudia Black now on the show could be alot of great stories to make the show go on another season or 2 more.

I LOVE Claudia Black!! She does bring something so special to her work. I say if Stargate is off for good, they should bring her on House. She would give the Doc a run for his money!
