There are three bits of news involving former and current American Idol stars so I thought I'd lump them into one post. First, President Bush appointed Clay Aiken to the President's Committee for People with Intellectual Disabilities. Oh, there's a political joke here but unfortunately this is a television blog. It's not just some random appointment. Clay actually has a degree in special education and worked with disabled kids before appearing on American Idol. Also, season one star Tamyra Gray got married to a guy who used to be in Color Me Badd. Yes, that '90s group that sang "I Wanna Sex... You Up" (since then he's been a successful songwriter and producer). Tamyra, 27, and Sam Watters, 36, wed in Capri, Italy on Saturday, according to People Magazine. Check out their wedding photo: they look downright gloomy. Tamyra had a short run on Boston Public in 2003, but there's no word on whether she's returning to television.
Finally, Simon. Simon Fuller, actually, the creator of American Idol. His management company, called 19 Entertainment, is venturing into the world of fashion. He plans to promote struggling designer Roland Mouret. Why 'struggling'? He became really famous a few years ago when Scarlett Johansson wore one of his dresses to the Academy Awards, but then he got in a spat with his label and split. The new label will be called 19RM. I think we know what the Idols will be wearing next season.

Not sure what your political joke is or why you'd even want to make that comment. This is a big honor for Clay, who is more than qualified to be on this committee. His Bubel Aiken Foundation has been working on inclusion for children with disabilities with their typical peers for 3 years. Clay has taught children with disabilities, including Michael Bubel, a boy with autism, who his foundation is named after.
Forget the jokes this time. This is great news and I couldn't be more happy for Clay and for the Committee for getting Clay.

LOL, I know what your political joke is; however, politics aside, I believe this to be a well deserved appointment. Clay has been involved with promoting inclusion for person's with disabilities long before his AI days and has used his time in the spotlight for furthering this cause.
He is a wonderful advocate and very intelligent, he will be a wonderful appointee who will take this opportunity seriously.

BRAVO to President Bush!!! YOU'VE GOT IT RIGHT!!!
Even though Clay Aiken's star has risen incredibly quickly, this humble young man and former teacher/CAP worker has found a higher cause for his celebrity. He has come so far in a very short time, and he has done so with astonishing grace and dignity. He has enriched, enlightened, inspired and endeared himself to America. His glorious voice and compassionate, generous spirit shine - lighting the way for children with special needs and raising awareness to issues that need a strong and powerful voice. Rather than basking in his own glory, Clay has been busy trying to "make a difference". In creating the Bubel/Aiken Foundation, he has embraced the monumental challenge of building bridges of hope and understanding. As a National Goodwill Ambassador for UNICEF, his voice is reaching out to foreign shores. This time, he is using it to speak to and for the world’s children. In any language, the words to his song bring warmth, comfort, and understanding to the littlest victims - the injured, the frail, the lost, the grieving - and his huge heart wraps them in love, just as they have wrapped their tiny hearts and lives around his soul.
We, Clay Aiken fans, have known, from the start, that this pop star’s heavenly voice was that of an angel. Today, the world is hearing his song and quickly discovering - so is his beautiful soul!
In today's world of disrespect, irreverence, and immorality, it is refreshing and comforting to know that there are still some "heroes" worthy of our admiration. Clay Aiken is one of these special, gentle souls. The true "measure of this man" lies, not in the millions albums sold, but in the tremendous outpouring of love, joy, compassion, respect, and opportunity he is already giving back! This is, precisely, why Clay's fans love him and why we are so enthusiastic and energetic in our efforts to help in whatever way we can. In every sense, Clay Aiken is and will continue to be our "American Idol", and we couldn't be more proud! He has, not only, proven his artistic talent to America and to the world, but, by his dedication and loving spirit, he has proven his worth as a human being to the Greatest Judge of all!

Absolutely fantastic Clay! Buddy, you are on your way. THIS is what you were meant to do!!!!!!!!! Don't let the suits in D.C. intimidate you either. You are brighter, more sensitive and more ambitious than any of them. GO! GO! GO!.

I suppose there are several possible jokes in this news, but none of them should involve Clay's spirit of giving or his committment to use his celebrity to make a difference. He has stayed true to his word about doing things to make the world a better place, and this committee may be just the beginning of his impact on the world. Yes, I said the world. He's an amazing young man and I'm proud to be a Clay fan.

I loved Tamyra Gray in AI, but she has slowly faded away. She is also a successful songwriter, having penned Fantasia Barrino and Diana DiGarmo's finale song "I Believe", which went on to be a #1 single. It was also played heavily on Lifetime while they promoted Fantasia's movie.
I haven't heard much from her since, but every now and then I'll get a link to some party somewhere with her in the mix.

No one can say it better, on behalf of all Clay's fans, than Susan Friedman; thank you Susan. Clay is so totally deserving of this honour and he'll be a strong spokesperson for those with disabilities.
I congratulate President Bush on his wise choice in this matter; choosing the best to act on behalf of the disabled speaks volumes about the value President Bush holds for those least able to speak for themselves.
It is a shame when an appointment and honour such as this, involving such a wonderful person as Clay, has to be subject to such an inept attempt at journalism. Intimating that it can be compared to an unmentionable political joke is both crass and unprofessional.
Congratulations, Clay! The disabled will now have the hero they so badly need!
