Sports Night: Ten Wickets

Sports Night(S01E21) You know, when you get right down to it, there's nothing sadder than a man in love, waiting for his woman, holding a bottle of wine, a bouquet of flowers, and an old abacus.

Dan has a special night planned for Rebecca, but she's thinking about going back to her husband. Meanwhile, Casey is still freaked out about last week's bomb scare and still ticked at Dana for bailing on the show to go to dinner with Gordon. And Jeremy is still broken up with Natalie. At least he thinks so. Natalie is telling him and everyone else in the studio that they are still together. Maybe Jeremy's obsession with a cricket (the sport, not the insect) story will make him forget how maddening she's being.

Dana speaks to Isaac on the phone. He's walking with a cane and being stubborn about not wanting anyone to come see him, and she assures him that everything is ok at the station.

Jeremy talks to someone about an incredible feat by a cricket player, but he knows nothing about cricket so he's not sure how incredible the feat was or how to report it on the show. He continues to do research and tries to convince Natalie that they've broken up.

Casey has been making Jerry Falwell jokes all week, because he doesn't understand why people like him to speak out against religious nuts like the one who called in the bomb threat. Dana tells him to knock it off, and in a tense moment, tells him that if he makes another one, he's suspended for a week.

Rebecca shows up at the studio and tells Jeremy that she has something to tell Dan. From the look on her face, Jeremy knows what it is. Dan presents her with his gifts, and she tells him that she's going back to her husband. Ouch. Dan says goodbye.

Meanwhile, Casey pulls Dana aside to apologize, and Dana tells him that Gordon is going to ask her to marry him when he comes back from his trip. She's going to say yes. Casey goes to talk to Dan about it, but Dan has beaten him to the wine and is getting drunk. He gets some mugs and pours drinks for Casey and Jeremy and Natalie, who are now back together (though they were never officially apart). They talk about Rebecca going back to her husband and Gordon asking Dana to marry him, and Casey swears he's going to find a way to blame Jerry Falwell for everything's that's happened.

But Dan, Natalie, and Jeremy say they haven't heard the bell yet. There's still time to win Dana.

Quotes:

"There's three things I'm doing: I'm losing things, I'm forgetting things...and there's a third one." - Dana

"I think they drink tea." - Dana, after Jeremy asked if she knew anything about cricket.

"I know it's been all of a week. I'll try to speed up my nervous breakdown." - Jeremy, on everything going on in his life.

Dan: Yes, I am, but I can fake my enthusiasm.
Casey: That's all I ask.

Jeremy: Think about his: halfway around the world a lone man accomplishes an extraordinary feat.
Casey: What?
Jeremy: I don't know.
