(S03E12) Despite what (I think) most considered a lackluster season, this was a pretty decent finale. It was tense, loaded with one-liners, and it's the first time Entourage ended with a genuine cliff-hanger. The first two seasons, we left Vince as he went off to make his next film. Now... we don't know what he's going to do next.
After Ari's blunder with the Joey Ramone project, Vince wakes E up the next morning with an announcement. He thinks they should give Ari his walking papers. Eric isn't against the idea, and after Ari dodges his phone calls, a day of meetings with other agencies unfolds.
Meanwhile, Ari does everything he can to get the Ramones script back in his hands and he doesn't plan on speaking to Vince until he's got it. Dana Gordon lets it slip that Bob Ryan still hasn't signed all the forms giving Warners the script though. Moreover, Alan Gray (the WB exec behind the Aquaman franchise) only bought the film as a "screw you" to Vince. Gray has no intention of making the film and Ari lets Bob know this.
Despite Ari's advice, Bob, finally disillusioned with the glitz and backstabbing, signs the papers anyway. The Ramones project is dead. So is Dana's job after Alan found out she squealed. I'm sure that'll come back to bite Ari in the ass.
So while Ari was running around like a madman, Vince attended meeting after meeting of the exact same meeting. All the rival agencies were the same. They all wanted to make Vince a household name along with Canon, Microsoft, and Coca-Cola. Drama finally makes the point that walking away from Ari is a mistake. He's family at this point and he screwed up. Plus, they know he's not like all the other agents. So they go to see him, expecting an apology. Instead they got another presentation: it was just like all the others. Let's make Vincent Chase a household name.
So after all that, Vince fired Ari anyway. And this wasn't half-heartedly like Vince did last season when he told Ari to cram it. He meant it this time. Looks like Drama's new pilot had better get picked up or the boys are going to be moving into that apartment Vince bought for Dom.
Best Quotes:
Drama (telling Vince to look before buying when it comes to a new agent): "No one appreciates their girlfriend until you get herpes from the next broad."
Ari (doubting that Lloyd is on top during sex): "C'mon... really?"

If you thought this season was lackluster, you have no business reviewing TV Shows.

I agree with Mike Davis. This was actually the best season yet. Stronger writing, better narrative, and the characters actually GREW.

Personally, I think that Vince will take Ari back. My speculations have nothing to do with the plotline. the fact of the matter is that Jeremy Piven (Ari) just won an emmy for his role. It would be stupid on the part of Mark Wahlberg and the other writers to write him off at this point. To me, it is pretty clear that we have not yet seen the last of Ari Gold.
In response to the "lackluster" season, I felt that it was at times boring, yes, but the plotline was great. I feel that this was an appropriate end to an overall good season.

Piven is the star of Entourage. He isn't going anywhere.

Is it just me or is Drama the best in show? Don't get me wrong, I love Ari esp. when he is smashing something, but Johnny D. has the lines. His comment last night about waiting to see "the underbelly" of the agency -- genius! Calling himself a pussy last week when he was in the trailer. Bringing his own robe to Vegas. The whole "hydrate" thing when they went to the Valley. Women should be throwing themselves at this guy!

Absolutely no reason Vince HAS to take Ari back. Ari's character is entrenched enough to be interesting on its own and make the entire season about the paths of Ari and Vince which may, or may not converge at a nice climax. I think Ari could do well as a spinoff as well.
And I have to agree that this was a lackluster season. WE just kept waiting for it to "start". It didn't really feel like it got off the ground until Martin Landau stepped in. In fact, I am hard pressed to remember anything even remotely interesting from the entire season before Landau's entrance.
It was great to watch a star on the rise, and then go through the paces of doing hack work for big money, but while the show could have taken the route to find out what Vince and gang are doing now that Warner's has balckballed them, it just felt.....trite.
Here's hoping that the next season is more interesting.

This season is as good as any of the previous two. There has been no drop-off in quality at all, in my opinion. And of course, Ari will be back. His "firing" will be resolved in the first couple of episodes, if not the premiere, of Season 4(guarantee it).

AS far as this season being "lackluster" I have to kind of agree. I LOVE Entourage. I Really really do. But this season could have been SO much stronger.
Vince will probably take Ari back, and even if he doesn't Jeremy Piven will still be a huge part of this show. Even if he hadn't won the Emmy, he's such a strong character and Ari has such a huge fan base there's no way they'd let him go.
My money is on Vince taking Ari back though.

Bob Ryan's realization that it's just not the Hollywood he knew - or maybe, it still is, but he's now changed, - was a great scene. To finally have it dawn on him that his dreams were going to be dashed and yet he falls on his own sword by signing the papers.... for a sitcom, it was practically Shakespearean!
Martin Landau really delivered these last three episodes and I hope he gets remembered for the Emmys next season as a guest star.

I thought the season started out pretty slow, but it definitely had some great episodes. One of my favorites was the one where they get into the fight with Seth Green. "Tell Sloan I said 'what up!'" That's classic. It was also great how they ended the episode with the big fight!
Jeremy Piven is one of the key characters that make the show great - if he leaves I'd be a lot less inclined to like the show. He's not going anywhere.

I would love to see a dynamic next season of Ari and Vince at odds with each other and Ari being spiteful and trying to sabotage Vince's career as a way of making Vince come back around...

I don't think anyone has referenced that it was announced that Carla Gugino from Spin City and Sin City was to play a rival agent to Ari during Season 3, they must have decided to play out this storyline and Vince's next movie in a new season rather than continuing this Season.

Hey Allen I agree with you on some things. There is no reason vince has to take Ari back. Ari alone could is an intresting character, but a spinoff on Ari, I doubt would be as popular as Entourage. It'd be a great show, probably a favorite of mine, but "underground" in some terms.

I enjoyed season 3 very much, that being said. I still think season 2 is the best season yet. I mean there was so much drama (not Johnny) with aquaman. We saw them at sundance, comic-con. The guest list. Mandy Moore, U2, Jessie Jane, Devon, Vanessa Angel. Oh and one of my favorite eps, when Vince does that crazy ad for that Chineese company. I would like to see more of that in the next season. I think with how popular is now, they can do a lot more. Oh and season 2 had 14 eps. What's up with 12 for season 3? I really didn't like how they ended the season. We have to wait till next spring to find out what happens. WTF. I'm still a huge fan. Just some thoughts and opinions.

My money's on my boy Johnny Drama's pilot taking off huge, leaving Vince looking for a job. Somehow, either Drama or Ari will convince Vince to go back to Ari.
I can't wait for the next season so Drama(the star of the show) can blow up.
Victoryyyyyyyyyy!
