I have to admit that I didn't get the connection when I saw the episode, but friends of legendary Hollywood producer Bob Evans say that the dottering old character played by Martin Landau this season is based on him, and he's not happy about it.
Now, at first I would think that it's silly, because there are plenty of old producers in Hollywood, but a friend of Evans says that not only did they use Evans' house in the show, but Entourage producers actually approached him earlier this year to play himself on the show.
HBO says the character is not based on Evans.

I'm too lazy to do it, but has anybody thought to match up the movies Bob Ryan claims to have produced with those that Bob Evans actually did?
That might nail the case one way or the other right there.....

It seems to me like this guy might be flattering himself a little. Martin Landau's character used to be a big player with credits like Butch Cassidy and a bunch of other big credits as well as some Ocars I believe. It looks to me like this Bob Evans guy has Chinatown and Marathon Man to his credit and a bunch of crap after that.

How come he never sued the producers of Wag The Dog if he's so protective of his self-image? Better yet, if he was that protective of his self-image, neither the documentary or the cartoon would have ever seen the light of day.
Bottom line, it seems as if Robert Evans is playing this to put his name back in the papers.

While it's silly as hell that he's upset, Bob Evans is a BIG deal in hollywood. He was a major player. This guy was a major cock of the walk and had a hand in movies like Love Story, The Godfather (you might know that one), Chinatown, Marathon Man.
Check out the docu on him:

Guy's classic. And not at all like the dottering fool in Entourage.

I'm no lawyer (but I play one in my mind), though I'm fairly certain that "parody laws" would protect the Entourage gang if this suit actually went to court (though the article never actually mentions if Mr. Evans was trying to file a lawsuit or if he was just ticked off).
The guy is a public figure and can't expect monuments to be built in his image.
Two more things:
1) "The Kid Stays in the Picture" is a great GREAT movie.
2) Anyone remember "Kid Notorious" on Comedy Central? Evans was the star and provided his voice-- Man, that was a crappy show.

I agree w/ Rick that the lawsuit would probably be thrown out if it went to court, for the reasons mentioned.
Where I disagree w/ him completely though is:
1) "The Kid Stays in the Picture" - I hated that movie. It was one of the biggest practically self-masturbatory over hyped movies I had ever seen. I was quite happy it was over just to have him quit talking.
2) "Kid Notorious" ruled. It was actually the thing that redeemed Robert Evans. Over the top and self-effacing. Slash as a neighbor? It is one of the shows I dearly wish they still made.
