Say what you will about ER, but it's still able to attract a pretty good roster of actors to guest star on the show, either in a one-shot deal or in a multi-episode arc. This year, in its 13th season, one of the guest starts will be Forest Whitaker, who has been cast as a carpenter who comes in with an innocuous cough, but ends up being paralyzed by a stroke. His stint will be five episodes. The role was originally going to be played by Andre Braugher, but he had to pull out due to the age-old "scheduling conflict."Remember that Whitaker played a big role in The Shield last season, and the show left the door open for his character to return. So this year might be a big TV year for Forest.

I love Andre Braugher, but signing up to have a stroke on ER is not really much of a stretch: As Frank Pembleton on Homicide: Life on the Street NBC has already had a Braugher-has-a-stroke story arc. Come on Andre, don't hog all the strokes for yourself! Let some other black dude have a stroke.

I heard the "conflict" was Braugher's mystery role in the upcoming sequel - "Fantastic Four 2: Rise of the Silver Surfer."

It is off topic, but everytime I hear "Rise of the Silver Surfer," I shudder with memories of first hearing "Attak of the Clones."

Sounds to me like somebody really wants an Emmy nod. He sure as hell deserved one for The Shield, but if you can't get it there, where else do you go after the death of Will & Grace and West Wing?
