Remember back in the day when Run-DMC rapped about their Adidas? Before long, anyone who wanted to be "down" was sporting a pair of them fly shoes and trying to sound cool by using words like "down" and "fly." Anyway, apparently that era is gone because a song by rap group The Pack, titled "Vans," has been shunned by MTV until the group edits their video and changes the name of their song. The network claims the video is too much like an advertisement and not enough like a video. Nevermind the fact that all videos are essentially commercials created to sell albums. It's all part of the package these days, and the only reason the likes of Britney Spears and Shakira are even on the radar. I placed the video after the jump for educational purposes. Oh yeah, and I totally used to have a pair of Vans like the skateboarder is wearing in the opening shot. Damn, I was stupid fresh.Got my Vans on, but not on MTV

First off... MTV plays videos?
Second... I would have guessed that was a commercial if you hadn't said it was a music video.

Okay, I agree that MTV hardly plays music video's anymore and when they do it's like 30 second snipets of them...blah and booo on that...but I just wanted to say..that yeah..this is a really catchy tune..and MTV is only going to fuel the fire for the video because all the controversy is going to make it more popular..then they'll give in and end up playing it anyway..so what the hay..just play the dang video..I thought it was cute..

vans are played out like hair mullets, tight shirts,,and those people you see that dress like its 1979,, and spike hair,,its 2006 we should be dressing in space suits,, not going back like how out parents dress, im 27< oh yea and i hate south hip hop its wack and corny they rap to simple with no true skillz, the east and west took it to the point were it was real good,, nas new hip hop album hip hop is dead coming out sept19,, is soposed to bring the real rap back hopefully he brings it back,, cause those south rap songs you se on mtv with them jumping around with gold teeth and showing their chains in sted of showing good rap skillz are no good its not rap, but yea vans are played , thats just another poor way to bring back old corny clothes..like they been doing from 2001 till now.

"I placed the video after the jump"? What jump? I was told there would be no jump.. and 90% of the time there is no jump...
Web pages are not a timelined serial media, like MTV and the rest of television. Ad content can and should be presented in parallel.

Okay MTV did we get about Nelly's Air Force One's??? These are classic sneakers and Nelly gave them a free boost. That video could have been viewed as a commerical for NIke.The reps at MTV are contratidiciting themselves. This is a hot track and they should get airplay. But if not there is always the competition. BET better jump on it. But who wears VANS anyway??
