William Shatner has faith that a new video game will give Star Trek a higher profile, after it has apparently fallen off the American radar. The game is called Star Trek: Legacy and, of course, he's voicing Capt. Kirk's character. The game will span all five of the franchise's television series, allowing players to fly 60 different space ships and encounter all sorts of aliens, including battling the Klingons and The Borg. Shatner hopes the game will hold over fans until 2008, when the next movie is due out.Star Trek: Legacy comes out in October.

It surely could make Star Trek cool again. After all, most of the Star Wars video games have been more satisfying than 2 of the 3 Prequel films.

I'm old enough to have been a fan of Trek since the original premiered, but I'm not at all excited about the next movie being a prequel. Maybe it's because Enterprise, being a prequel, wasn't as good as it could have been. I think the real reason though is Trek's always been about the future and a prequel just goes against that grain, not giving us anything really new, just fleshing-out the past.
I'd much rather see a movie/series taking place even further in the future, perhaps with Federation Timeships. That would offer both a look at the Federation's future, while having a convenient way of fleshing out the past at the same time.
