(S10E05) For some reason, SG-1 is all about the little bits of 'previously on SG-1'. For tonights episode we saw the cloaked warriors from a previous season. I sort of wish they'd quit it. These little trips down memory lane have a habit of giving too much away.
Mitchell shows up at Jacks cabin driving a schweeet fastback mustang. (I just love late 60's mustangs) Some sort of alien peeping tom appears to have followed Mitchell or the General out to the cabin. The rest of the team is supposed to be at Landry's little retreat, but are checking out reports of some trouble on another planet. Teal'c arrives off-world and is shown some chainsaw massacre style carnage. The rest of SG-1 is more than a bit happy to go off-world and help hunt down the mysterious beast that's eating villagers. The beastie nibbles on one of the SG teams, and takes off in the woods.
Mitchell and the General are having a nice little weekend alone in the woods together. Red Stripe is the drink of choice, but Mitchell just can't relax around Landry. (I wonder if one of the Sargent's ever made some SGC home-brew, I bet some off-world hopps would make an interesting brew.)
Vala and Teal'c make quick work of our beastie. During the night a big storm knocks out the power and washes out the road in and out of the cabin. Back at the SGC, they're dissecting the beastie. It happens to contain a highly trained attack caterpillar. Teal'c expert marksmanship with his Zat takes care of our squishy new friend. I almost fell off my couch when Landry starts making mating calls at Mitchell. Mitchell declines to go bird watching, and goes for a run. As he jogs along a disturbed hunter appears, saying that his buddy has been attacked. They return to find one not so healthy hunting buddy.
The (hot) xeno-biologist provides the skinny on our worm friend. It's pretty apparent that it's altering hosts and making the beasties. When another SG team returns to base with more injuries we know it's not an isolated problem. Sam ascertains that the attacks are only happening on planets visited by SG teams. Out in the woods, the locals are getting their jollies on hunting for the killer grizzly. As another body turns up, things are looking grim for our woodsy duo.
Sam figures that the problem might be caused by the Sodan(SP) cloaking devices that just started being used in the last week. Of course, one's missing from Area 51. Seriously, who would trust ANYTHING to Area 51 at this point? They loose more stuff than friggin' Los Alamos.
So Mitchell and general Ducky Landry run across some hunters shooting the bushes like crazy. Mitchell checks it out and catches himself a trust operative who was spying on the General. Just as they're clearing up, our beastie (who looks a lot like Pinky from DOOM) grabs a nice Sherrify snack.
After snack time, the Air Force is ready to get it on. It looks like it'll be a fun time in the woods tonight. After a bit of hunting, they manage to take down a creature. Vala wonders aloud about the thing being so aggressive. She gets to be right, and they take down a second one.
The episode wraps up with a little poker game. Teal'c ribs Sam about not being a good poker player. From the look on Sam's face, you'd think he just grabbed her uh, calculator or something. She proceeds to bluff her way into taking the whole pot.
This episode of SG-1 was pretty good. Since everyone kept saying the beasties came out of nowhere, I kept thinking that the things were cloaked. (Especially since we've seen animals that do that before) There were definitely some cheesy moments, but it had some laughs and a nice science fiction plot. Vala was fun to watch, but I missed Daniel. Most of all, General Landry's bird calls took the cake. (I think he enjoys messing with his subordinates. He always smiles after he freaks them out.) Next week we get the 200th episode, I'm hoping it will a lot of fun.

Claudia Black plays Vala.
The new "Hot" Xeno-babe is none other than Morena Baccarin, formerly of Serenity/Firefly fame.

The xenobiologist isn't even listed on the IMDB or TVtome, but is most certainly not Morena Baccarin. She doesn't even resemble her. With her surgical headgear on she resembled Lexa Doig, who played the doctor and daughter of General Landry last season.
Baccarin is set to appear on the show playing Adria, Vala's soon to be fully grown daughter.

I cracked up when Mitchell said all the gunshots sounded like a vice presidential shooting gallery.
Vala brings some much needed extra comic relief to the team, everyone looks at her like she's a little nuts; but she ends up being right more often then not.
A fun "Look What Happens When We Frack With Alien Technology for Our Own Use" episode. Though I would've liked to see a bit more intrigue with the Trust and Barett from last episode.
And what is up with that Xenobiologist??? Fracking HAWT!

Bingo!
Here's Keegan Connor Tracey's website:

The site looks like it's in need of some updating, but she's been around in the TV show and movie block.
Remember 40 Days and 40 Nights? She was one of the hot chicks that tempted Josh Hartnett with that hot lezzie kiss.

Will you obviously have no idea WHY these clips are there. They are there to bring in MORE VIEWERS who haven't seen past seasons as us fans have. They are they to fill in importanty continuity points so everyone can keep up to speed.

I agree with Akbar's assessment - the "little trips down memory lane" are welcome. First of all, it's the only glimpse we get of Jack these days. Second, and more importantly, those of us who've been with the show for the long hall recognize those tidbits and they remind us of the full story arc so that you go "oh yeah" as the new episode plays out. It's cause it's the only tv show with any depth to its stories (back stories).

That's a good take, so I'll clarify a bit. I'm just unsatisfied with the effort. The 'previously' bits are really disconnected. I'd be happier if they were better integrated with the episode. Admittedly, I'm also used to this sort of thing being used in two part episodes. Everything else on stargate is usually done so well and these end up coming off as an afterthought.
