Those of you who have been resisting the urge to read Martin's reviews of the second season of Doctor Who's current incarnation, hoping that the shows will appear here in the States soon, your efforts have been rewarded. According to Comingsoon.net, the BBC and Sci Fi came to a licensing agreement on Thursday that will allow the American cable network to run the show's second season (or series, as the Brits call it). The series premiere will air on September 29 with a two-hour episode that includes the Christmas Invasion special that introduced the tenth Doctor, played by David Tennant.Considering how popular Series One was on these shores, this announcement seemed like it would be a foregone conclusion. I guess the Beeb could have shown the program on their little-seen BBC America network (Cablevision doesn't even offer it on their digital package in NJ, for crissakes), but they probably would have had a revolt on their hands if they did. Let's just hope Sci Fi doesn't interrupt this show for six months, like they're thinking of doing with the two Stargate shows.

I read somewhere, (I know I know, I'm an idiot) that this is what SCIfi is going to run WITH BSG, so that would mean it wouldn't get interupted, (maybe)

Just finished watching Season 2 thru the miracle of the internet and WOW. I can't talk this up enough to people and I'm thrilled Sci-Fi is smart enough to know a good thing when they see it.

This sets up a potential perfect situation where Sci-Fi airs the third series at the same time as the BBC. That would be fantastic, except watching the show without commercials is the best possible way to watch it. Because it's produced primarily for the BBC, there are few convenient act breaks. What would be the best potential perfect situation is if they would sell it on iTunes at the same time it airs in England.

Great news. I have seen the second season courtesy of the internet as well but I will watch again. I like Christopher Ecceleston better but Tennet isn't too bad. Love Billie Piper. Too bad about her. Can't wait of Dr Who and Battlestar Galactica together.

Shame on you Antiari_Sky! No spoilers! I too have seen series two (or 11 out of 13) and I know what happens, but most don't. Don't let on any more than you have to in praising the series!

I really hope this will lead to SciFi televising Season/Series 3 at the same time as the BBC next year. That will automatically cut down on the filesharing which "possibly" impacts the ratings on SciFi. It would also allow for a quicker DVD box set release. I also have my fingers crossed that the S2 box set will debut in America shortly before Christmas.
Who (no pun intended) knows? Maybe SciFi will show the upcoming (S3) Christmas episode on Christmas night just as the BBC will do.

The Christmas episode in question being "The Runaway Bride" and not "The Christmas Invasion" which will be televised on Sept. 29th on SciFi.

Is this new incarnation of The Series as good as the last one? I mean, I know that even the McCoy era was a bit cheesy, it still seemed to fit. Now it seems like the newest Doctors (8, 9 and 10) are trying to be less campy of a sci-fi series. Is it just the Tom Baker Doctor-phile in me that doesn't "get" the lastest series? Is it as campy or is a more of a serious series now?

David Tennant is one hell of an actor, and can play everything from comedy (Casanova) to musical (Viva Blackpool!) to the creepiest of homicidal creeps (Secret Smile).
It was fun to see Tom Baker in the last two series of Monarch of the Glen. The character he played was totally over-the-top, and Baker did it justice.
