(S02E09) Another instant classic. This is the only show on right now that I frequently pause while watching. Why? Because I'm laughing so hard. Tonight's episode focused on Charlie vs. Mac and Dennis. Charlie wanted a smoking ban in the bar and Dennis thought it was un-American. Charlie didn't buy it though. So he recruited Dee, put on a jean jacket, and decided to be a patriot who "goes America all over everybody's ass."
So while Charlie was trying to get involved with street protests (he failed by the way... too big an audience and he pukes uncontrollably), Mac and Dennis turned Paddy's into the "freest bar in America." What it turned into was Mardi Gras theme night. Regardless, it was funny. Boobs, beads, and beer.
Frank wanted in on the freedom action too. So he invited a bunch of his Vietnamese gambling buddies over and they all played poker (betting fingers) and finished the night with a Russian Roulette tournament. Last man standing wins. Literally.
However, this episode took it a step up. Thus far this season we've only had one recurring character from the first season. What's her name, the coffee shop girl who had a crush on Dennis. Well, now we can add the McPoyle brothers (Liam and Ryan) to that list. Remember them? Charlie got them put in jail in the season one finale, "Charlie got Molested."
They're out of jail now, and when they're not making out with their sister, Liam and Ryan want to stab Charlie. And Liam gets to. With a fork. Some really funny stuff with those two, it was good to see them back in the fold.
Who knows what'll happen in next week's finale, but in honor of it, I'll leave you with something a bit more exciting than the episode's best quotes. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you the lyrics to Charlie's America Song, written and performed by Charlie Kelly.
Charlie's America Song
I'm gonna rise up/ I'm gonna kick a little ass/ I'm gonna kick some ass in the U.S.A./ I'm gonna climb a mountain/ I'm gonna sew a flag/ I'm gonna fly on an eagle/ I'm gonna kick some butt/ I'm gonna drive big trucks/ I'm gonna rule this world/ I'm gonna kick some ass/ I'm gonna rise up/ Gonna kick a little ass/ Rock on flyin' eagle!

My only complaint with this episode is that the big payoff joke (Frank and the Russian Roulette game) was shown frequently during the promos that ran before the season started, so from the beginning I knew where things were going. That being said, it still made me laugh.

There was another recurring character as well. The girl who Dee wanted to dance on the bar (ala Coyote Ugly) in the first season.

I think that character's name was Artemis. When I saw her, as well as the creepy brothers, I thought maybe this was the final episode of the season and they were bringing back some fave characters from the past before they wrapped everything up.
With next week's storyline about the guy who claims to be Dennis and Dee's real father, I hope we get to see Anne Archer again as their Mom. One of the episodes she was in this season ("Mac Bangs Dennis' Mom") was the best so far.
I was also hoping Carmen the trannie would come back as well.....

In addition to the classic America song by Charlie, I enjoyed it when he broke up Dee's and Artemis' performance by chanting, "ATTICA! ATTICA!"
