Let me get this straight. A woman in North Carolina writes a book about Clay Aiken. It's about his life. It's based on information from her neighbors, who were once friends with Clay's mom. Clay says the book is full of lies. The author decides to sue Clay because he's keeping her from making money off of him.Anyone else's head spinning?
It's not really complicated, just stupid. The author, Jeannie Holleman, filed a lawsuit against Clay and his mother, claiming they tried to "defame her and depress sales of her book" by acting like they don't know her and releasing statements that the book is full of lies. Get this: She wants $260,000 and has asked that Clay retract statements he made about the book, endorse the book on his official website, write an introduction to the book, and sell it at concerts for the next five years. I'm not sure what's funnier, her demands or the name of her book, Out of the Blue - 'Clay' it Forward.

It's obvious by this woman's "demands" that she's trying to make a buck. I'm sure she thinks that the publicity of the lawsuit itself may cause a couple more curious people to buy copies of her book. Clay's fans all know better and will of course steer clear of her trash.
There, now she can sue ME for "libel." :)

I vote that Clay writes a biography about her based on what _his_ neighbors tell him. Proper and consistent use of the word 'alleged' should keep him out of trouble.

She is actually suing him for over 2 MILLION Dollars. It is $260,000 per count. She has filed 8 counts.

This woman is pathetic, the suit is a sham, and I hope Clay and his lawyers sue her and take her to the cleaners!

Jeannie Holleman & her suit will be wiped on the curb before it will ever really reach the courts. It's crap & so is her sad little "book".

So she capitalizes on her relationship with someone who is close to Clay Aiken's mother. Writes an UNAUTHORIZED biography about him and expects that Clay and his family will welcome her attempts to cash in on his "so-called" celebrity.
Isn't this the same woman who threatened all his internet fans with legal action for sharing for "free" among themselves the song he sang at her daughter's wedding [for which he was the hired help] because she was "selling" the video of his performance on eBay.
Me thinks she has earned enough $$ off her very tenuous connection to Clay Aiken. Apparently, this was not enough.
The way I see it, she owes him. Trying to create an cottage industry around someone that you barely know is tricky. You failed, get over it.

How many people have actually read the book before they commented?

I feel sorry for Clay. This has been a hellish year for him, what with the whole John Paulus gay scandal, (which I believe to be a lie, because Clay himself has said that he's not gay. And Clay is honest.) and now this. I really like Clay, and I have a lot of respect for him and his family. My thoughts and prayers are with them.

Thank you! You said it best!!! And to kfc who asked "how many people have actually read the book before they commented", it is not about the book. This is about a woman who wrote an unathorized book and then sues the subject of her unathorized Biography.

Well, controversy does sell books, so I'm told. There will probably be a few people outside the fandom who buy it to see what all the fuss is about (though it won't clarify much). I did read an advance copy and my main complaint was that it wasn't very well written and didn't seem to have a theme or focus. The suit shows that the attorney has a flair for comedic writing, though. Perhaps she should write the next book.

This whole thing reads like a transcript of The Jerry Springer Show. After reading parts of the book and the complaint, my impression is that the author is chasing phantom dollars she thought she would see and trying to get some sort of petty revenge for some imagined social slight. I can't imagine how well she expected a badly written book, published by a vanity press (at the author's expense) of vignettes that were borrowed off of others to do in a competitive market. Amateur authors all over the country have garages full of books they paid thousands to publish.

Well since you brought it up Kelly @ 4:20, Clay isn't honest about his sexuality, he was with John Paulus and he is gay.
That aside, I don't think this lady has much of a suit against Clay. He and his family did try to discredit this book before it went up for sale and they told all of the fans not to buy it. I don't know much about the law in this instance but I don't see how she can hold him accountable for the damages she seeks. How can someone force a celebrity to write a forward for a book against their will? How can they demand him to sell this book at his concerts for 5 years? It is insane. None of Clay's fans want this book in part because Clay's team said not to buy it so there isn't a chance in heck his fans will pick one up at his concerts if he is forced to sell them. I would be surprised if she sold any in that case. What a crazy law suit. She really should give up.

Clay has put up with a lot of negative things in his short career, and has come through it all just fine. I know he will come through this lawsuit just fine, as well.
And I know this is OT, but It.takes.all.kinds, how do you know that Clay is dishonest about his sexuality? Have you ever asked him about it? Or are you just one of those people who assume that Clay is gay? If you ARE just assuming that he is gay, don't be spreading it around like it's the gospel. If Clay says he is straight, you should just take his word for it and let him be who he is. Don't you think it's hurtful to Clay to have people constantly saying he's gay when he has said many times that he is not? That whole John Paulus thing was published in a tabloid, and the tabloids are never honest. They will do whatever it takes to hurt people such as Clay. Clay did the right thing by keeping silent on this matter. He kept the whole thing one-sided. Good for him!

To the last blogger posting more lies about Clay; shame on you; If you did not watch the Howard Stern Show when John Paulus was interviewed about this "alleged affair with Clay" on the "said date", he was caught in his lie! Howard's staff DID their homework and found that Clay was, in fact, at an other event that evening and there were witnesses to verify it! John looked pretty stupid, let me tell you! This idiot should have done HIS homework before he went out and sold his story to the tabloid to make money off of Clay like this fool of a woman is trying to do now. As for you claiming that Clay is gay, well, I would rather take Mr. Aiken's word for it that he is not because he has shone more integrity by living a life of a decent human being. Judge someone by the work that they do, not by the gossip that you read! I think you are a "Clay Hater" and that is sad because this is a good man that has done nothing to you. If you do not care for his music, that is fine, you are entitled, but do not tear him down personally; he does not deserve that. Move on, there are horrible things going on in this world today; let this man bring joy into our lives, his true fans, and go and find someone that brings joy into your life. God bless you.

Sorry! Didn't mean to get off the topic either; I forgot we were talking about this other idiot who is trying to make a buck off of Clay Aiken and his "celebrity"! The thing is, Clay knows that there will be many more Jeannie Holleman's popping up from time to time, going after his money, but this time she went after his Mom and that was a BIG mistake! As Clay said "he will not stand by when these attacks are made agaist his family." This woman is going to be sorry she ever went after the Clay Man and his Mama!

Hi Again,
below is a quote from Clay Aiken; it is a statement he gave when the lawsuit was brought against him and his mother. As you will see, Mr. Aiken is an eloquent speaker, highly intelligent and quite serious here when making these statements! I thought I would share them with anyone who may not have seen them yet.
I think you will see that Mr. Aiken has been treated rather badly in the tabloids in the past and how he chose to handle it then and why he is handling it differently now. Here are the two quotes:
"As a so-called `celebrity' I have become used to scurrilous allegations and untruths being made about me and my work. I have always taken the path of not reacting to these matters and have accepted them as, somehow, coming with the 'job' However, I cannot, and will not, stand by when these attacks are made on my family."
Aiken, in a statement issued by RCA Records, said Monday that he had "instructed my attorneys to not only vigorously dispute the claims that have been made but to also pursue all possible remedies against those involved in the perpetration of these untruths."
You see where he IS serious about protecting his family and will not let this women say or do anything that will cause harm to his mother! So for those of you gossip mongers- let the hate go, let the man sing, he will win this case! The woman is a GREEDY FOOL! GREAT BLOG!!!
