(S10E04) The opening Stargate scenes caught my attention. O'Neill getting mind smooched with the repository of Ancient knowledge happened a loooong time ago.(Like back in season seven) Quite a bit of time was spent explaining that Baal was stealing Stargates.
I've got to give Baal some credit. He does know how to make an entrance. He makes his way to Stargate Command by flying a small ship straight at it. He's like an evil alien Count of Monte Cristo.
Supposedly Baals clones have turned on him. And he knows about Merlin's weapon. Baal has to be the most charismatic bad guy that SG-1 has ever seen, but dang he's smug. Meanwhile, NID Agent Barrett wants to play with the Baal too.
SG-1 is off to chase down a collection of Baal clones to test out Baals claims. I wonder about this strategic move. Who thinks that Baal wouldn't sacrifice some clones to get his plans in motion? Dude, they're clones, and he can just make more. Sometimes SG-1 is just a bit gullible.
SG-1 arrives at the first planet and Vala shows off a bit. She finds a ring platform and tots off to annoy some Jaffa (SP). Her little trick gets them ringed up to the ship. (Who else could shoot at a patrol with their legs crossed, sitting on a tree stump? I love Vala's character.)
The various SG teams collect about twenty Baals (judging from the security camera feeds) and the fun begins! The SG teams have been busy collecting Balls SG-1 interrogates a few Baals, Agent Barrett is getting ancy. He's been bugging the general quite a bit, and he's getting pretty annoying. He tries asking Sam for a bit of help and ends up banging on the mess table.
Barrett wasn't quite done, so he goes to visit a Baal on his own, without permission. Baal rather quickly overpowers him, takes his weapon and shoots the guard. It becomes pretty apparent that it's Baals plan all along to take over part of the base.
When Sam wakes we find out what's up. Baal wants the Ancient database for himself. He's after the weapon and he's pretty freakin' sneaky. It's almost all over once Baal makes Sam hand over the access code and gets his well manicured hands on the list of Stagate addresses. The troops are moving in and they're about to fill the place with Goa'uld symbiote poison. Unfortunately it's too late, and a collection of Baals together have enough locater signal to get beamed out.
The show winds up with Barrett being in a we bit of trouble. The SGC is wondering if he's been tampered with. Baal just doesn't take many chances, and his plan hinged on the escape that Barrett (inadvertently) provided.
I really enjoyed this episode of SG-1. It kept moving, and was all about the plot. I guess I just love a good emotion provoking villain. The only thing that nagged me was the escape of the Baals. I'm sure he covered it, but if they're all loaded up with tracking devices, why wouldn't the SGC scientists try to track him with the ship he provided? (I'd have settled for a quick 'He deactivated them'.)
Oh, and my favorite line:
"General, I understand you've got yourself a few extra Baals." Agent Barrett to General Landry.

For the second time (and interestingly enough its a Baal episode) I have been unable to suspend my disbelief to believe what happened.
SG-1 should have at least considered the fact that Baal was playing them all from the get go. Capturing them all was way to easy. Consider me unimpressed. (last time was the one with Baal and the "bomb" building)

The footage with Jack O'Neill was from season two's episode, "The Fifth Race."
Interesting episode -- however, IF Agent Barrett was brainwashed, I can't believe the SGC let him walk way. Barrett should have been taken into custody immediately, so that he could be tested and treated (tested to be sure Barrett wasn't some type of clone...)

I'm sorry...our military is trained to NEVER give up classified information for hostages. Carter would never have done this...and it makes me a little angry that the writers would portray a woman to be so weak and emotional that her years of military training would just go out the window.

Another fun episode of SG-1; actually any episode with Baal is a good one. That snarky S.O.B. can get almost anything he wants!
2 things that bugged me as well - Baal sure seems to have an awful lot of good intel on SGC going-ons, Merlin's weapon, and the Ori. Where's he getting it from? Barrett?
And yeah, Sam gave that info up too easily. I wonder if she planted something in there.
Vala is a great character! And I loved when Mitchel was treating the Ball Hunt as a competition.
