I think I'm living some kind of weird Rip Van Winkle life lately. Suddenly, without warning, there are these bizarre promos running during the breaks on the Today Show showing Matt, Al, Ann and Meredith laughing, goofing and dancing together as if they'd been on the air for ten years with Meredith. Who are they trying to fool? Who are these people? What is going on here?!Maybe they did an excellent video editing job and stuck Meredith's head on Katie's body, and this is an old goofy video they're using. And even then, when I say the promo's goofy, I mean GOOFY. I'm trying to imagine what the director was saying while trying to get the team to feel all chummy together, as if we're supposed to believe they're really that pally with Meredith: "OK now Al, you do a little hop and shuffle, then eat a beignet. Matt, you stick out your tongue, slap Ann on the ass and dip Meredith. No, on the ass, Matt. Meredith, you flex your biceps while Ann laughs hysterically in the background. No Ann, laugh. Like this 'hahaha.' There you go."

Today show promos? Does any body with an ounce of sense still watch Today? Of course the promos are goofy. Read Ray Bradbury's story Farenheit 451 and measure the Today Show's promos against that description of vapid television. Eerie similarities - a faux family requiring inconsequential involvement and voting on such things as the color of dresses for a televised wedding. His predictions have come true.

It's funny...I was thinking the exact same thing this morning while I was watching the TODAY show. Television is becoming corny in the extreme in their efforts to make us 'buy in' to their fantasies. How stupid do they think the American public is?

Of course those promos are STUPID. Here's the problem: You have a brain. I have a brain. HOWEVER, 3/4 of the American public does not. They chuckle, chortle, poke each other in the ribs and say, "Oh look at that Meredith and Matt, aren't they FUN." Hand me the puke bag and the channel changer.

Oh, give them a break. The show is about to undergo a major transformation, once again. Since when is self-promotion in television snickered upon? It's just a business. I wish them well. And they do seem like family! With the way things are in the world these days, a little humorous banter in the morning is a welcome relief from the bombings, war, gas prices, political thievery, murders and what not.

That is why T.V. is called 'the idiot box'.
When I tell people I would rather exercise, listen to music, or read a book than watch this kind of stupidity - they look at me as if I have two heads!

The worst part about arrogant people like above, is the fact that they are in their own world and think they are the only ones with intelligence when in fact they are not as smart as others and as proven, they have no sense of fun or humor. The today show is classic and it doesn't bother anyone with the Today show or those who enjoy the today show that you are not fans. Get lost.

Fact is, if anyone (still) watches the Today show, or Maury, of any other day time show, they have way too much time on their hands! I work full-time, single mom of 4 (2 teenagers!@#$) if and when I get a day off, I'm so not going to waste my time watching daytime shows...rather the goal of the day would be to shower or take a nap between chores...mother's never get a day off, even when they are NOT getting paid for it...

Just when I thought those Today show promos (and that grating jingle "It's a new dayyyyyy..") could not be any worse, in comes the same promo with similarly staged chummy segments with the local "pre-Today" show cast spliced into the mix. This was even more nauseating. But then so is the local cast.
I agree with James and Karen.

Ads? What ads? I haven't watched that leftist, liberal show since Katie arrived (and surely won't be watching her on the evening news). Too bad I like Meredith so much, I'll miss not seeing her anymore.

Agreed. The ads are stupid, but no more stupid than any of the other ads run on TV. Ever watch some of those inane CNN ads? By the way, whatever happened to Aaron Brown and why don't we see him anymore. He was a breath of reason in all of this insanity!

I find it kinda odd that first off "The Today Show" would overlook one of their own for the job and give it to an outsider. Poor Ann, standing there acting like she's happy to see a woman take a job that should've been hers. Second why act all chummy chummy when you haven't even worked together yet? I'd love to see some on air tension between then all to knock the show off kilter.......or off the air whichever comes first!!!

Considering who she is replacing, hopefully she will let her guests talk, or answer, non-leading questions.

Have any of you considered that they are all television personalities and are being paid to do a job, and make it look worth watching? It is a game. However, they are all well-known and have probably seen each other and most likely talk outside of this and prior to the departure of Katie. Come on, award shows, banquets, and charitable events are something they do to keep their popularity! They are doing better than we are, and we are talking about them!

Come on, people. Lighten up! It's just fluf and marketing! If you want your loyal watchers to watch and feel comforatble about transition, market it as a friendly, familiar thing. Anybody who takes TV as seriously as to think it is ruining our lives or is "vapid" or the like is giving television WAY too much power! Think for yourselves, you sheep! By the way, I like starting my day with the Today show, and I'll watch with Meredith.
