Despite the gray hair, American Idol champ Taylor Hicks is only 29. So can someone explain to me why he's already writing his memoirs (if he is indeed writing them, he'll probably get a co-writer)?
Hicks just got a $750,000 advance from Random House to pen his life story, titled Heart Full Of Soul. The book will be in stores next spring.
Is there anything about Hicks that we don't already know from all of the interviews he's given and all of the family and behind the scenes stuff we've seen on Idol?
I can't wait for the Taylor Hicks Xbox game and the line of Taylor Hicks clothing. Don't laugh, it could happen.

The question is not why would Taylor take $750,000 to write his memoirs. That seems pretty obvious. The question is why anyone would by such a book.

Why would anyone buy a book from Taylor? The same reason anyone would buy a book from Paris Hilton. The majority of the American population is simply stupid. They live and breathe for this stuff. And, similar to Paris', I'm sure Taylor's book will be full of "pictures and stuff."
Oh, by the way, I'm from Alabama, and I would rather William Hung had won than my fellow "'bamian" Taylor.

Hmmmm. Unlike rich, spoiled, has-everything Paris, apparently Taylor's life was not an easy one and he has had lots of struggles - both personally and professionally - getting to where he is today. From what I read in less caustic articles, the book has a 'believe in your dreams' and 'don't ever give up' theme that is intended to inspire others trying to achieve their dreams. Don't think Paris H. has ever had to do any of that (struggle to achieve dreams, etc.), and don't think Taylor has ever had any films made of his love affairs and things like that to write about, so....bet their readers will be VERY different.
P. S. To Bob and all others who dissed Taylor above - if someone wanted your life story and said we'll help you write it and give you $750K (just to start) for that privilege - wouldn't you take it and smile all the way to the bank?
And don't worry about readers for Taylor's book. There'll be PLENTY enjoying his book AND smiling back at his smiling face as he walks to that bank.

Because American Idol is one of the most popular show over the past few years and Taylor is one of the most loved contestants and winners. The fact that this past season was the closest ever and more people voted on the final show than voted in the past national election.

Not true. More votes were cast than in the last election, not more voters. Don't forget individuals could vote more than once.

Why? Because Mr. Hicks is one intuitive cookie and is living the American Dream. Whether you love him or hate hime ( count me as one of the former ) , he is capitalizing financially and finally getting his music heard. Longevity is the game of legends, we will see how far this young man can go. You either like his music or not, but before you vilify him, listen to his recordings and give the guy a chance to write, play and perform on his own terms... following his Idol contract termination.

Yes, I can explain: Hicks just got a $750,000 advance from Random House to write it! I don't care if he can dance, sing or blow smoke rings. He's not stupid! I wish I could say that about your question. Time to look for something more intelligent like the latest news on Suri or Star Jones.

I, for one, will buy (not by as in comment #1)the book. The man has talent and definitely is a breath of fresh air. More power to him. I just saw him the other night at CJ's in Charlotte...he truly loves what he's doing. "It is just about the music" quote Simon Cowell.

taylor hicks has great representation in The Firm, who inked this deal. the chosen ghostwriter is an established writer who is well familiar with this type of entertainment publishing, meant to help continue a positive buzz. the book will be great PR for taylor hicks and i'm sure is not meant to be the next great american novel. it helps provide taylor with more of the financial cushion he will need in this cut-throat business. The Firm is just doing their job, and doing it well. plus, taylor hicks really does have a good rags to riches story -- you know, the one where the dedicated, pure-hearted artist, on the verge of giving up, finally makes good. and something about him, his voice, his persona, provides inspiration to others who are struggling with challenges in life. what can be wrong with that? so critics, both amateur and pro, take a chill pill!

Taylor's story is a very inspirational one. The minute I heard him sing A Change is Goona Come I was a changed person. I am so glad he did not give up on himself as so many of us do. Whatever good things he gets in this life from now on, he deserves.

I for one will buy the book and look forward to hearing all about the Cinderlla man. Taylor's story is inspirational and to see someone achieve their dreams, its uplifting and worth sharing. Random House wouldnt be interesting if they didnt think it would sell. Dont understand why anyone wouldnt be happy for someone who has achieve their dreams. Lots of unhappy people out there...
Looking forward to reading Taylors book.

I for one, will buy Taylor's book...I a certainly am not stupid for doing so. This man, no matter how different, or quirky he may be to some, has touched the hearts of millions. He has had his share of struggles, despite his age,(something P,(for priviledged) Hilton has never had to go through). He is extremely talented (proven long before Idol fame). He simply needed AI as a "public address system" to the world! He was born for this, not "groomed" for it! Music is in his blood, heart and soul...he hasn't and shouldn't deny it. I am glad he had the conviction to have "paid his dues" before sharing his God given gift with me and the millions of other proud SOUL PATROLLERS!!!! HICKS FAN FOR LIFE!
