ABC Family is so happy with Kyle XY that it has already committed to a second season. The show is only six episodes into its first season, but already it's the most-watched original show ever to air on ABC Family. It's been nabbing 2.1 million viewers a week, with 800,000 of them in that coveted 18-49 demographic. I watched the pilot for this show and it didn't strike me as intriguing but maybe I didn't give it enough time. It's about a teen-ager who wakes up in the woods with no memory, no life skills, and no belly button. He's taken in by the family of his juvenile detention counselor. Is anybody out there watching/enjoying this show? Would you like us to start reviewing episodes?

Every time I see an ad for this show it just seems more and more stolen. Primarily from John Doe.
I haven't watched it though, so it may be great. I just don't feel the need.

This show is great. Watching someone enter the world with no social skills try to develop them during the middle of adolescence, the time when they are most critical, is very interesting (and well written/acted). That's what I like about the show, and as far as I'm concerned the backstory is secondary.

My wife and I watch Kyle XY. It's a decent show, in a kind of X-files meets John Doe meets Everwood sort of way. The characters are for the most part a bit one dimensional, but it's off to a good start. I like the mystery and the coming of age elements equally.

I'm two years past that coveted demographic, so I guess the suits don't care what I think, but I love the show as well. Sure, there were elements similar to 'John Doe', but the producers explained that their show was in the works even before that aired.
There are also elements similar to 'Lost', but so what? How many Westerns, cop shows, medical programs shared elements with other series in their particular genre? 'Kyle XY' takes those similar elements and then gives them its own unique twist.
I could do without the heavy product placement with Sour Patch Kids, but otherwise I'm hooked on the show's ongoing mystery. Review it or not, but I hope you give it a shot.

I also happen to think this is a great show. Much like Lost, it's a mystery/sci-fi show that doesn't seem like it's one at all. Instead, it's heavily focused on the characters and their experiences. It's nice because it covers the usual "teen" demographic in terms of stories, but it doesn't seem to fall victim to the usually paper-thin plot lines and acting. Speaking of the acting, I think they've all done a terrific job and really seem to fit well into their characters. Kyle is the particular standout because it's a tough role to play well and he does so extremely convincingly.
Basically, I'm just liking it because it's not the contrived teenage drama it could easily be. They get props for avoiding that stigma.

While berating Eureka I stated this show was the best show of the summer...
http://www.tvsquad.com/2006/07/19/eureka-pilot-series-premiere/#c1761797
and got scolded over it.
So I've been reviewing it on my blog and would like to see it get some more attention. Go for it TV Squad.
I even have a theory that Kyle and the mom will hook up.

I absolutely LOVE Kyle XY. I didn't think I would like it, but I figured I should watch it since I know a few people involved with the project. The first episode was intriguing enough for me to tune in again. It's a bit promiscuous for a ABC Family show, but I definitely enjoy that aspect. It's a different show than anything else on ABC Family. I think it's a good show for that networ

I've never seen (or even heard of for that matter) John Doe. But we started watching Kyle XY purely by accident, (lack of anything else to see at the time) and now we wouldn't miss it!

I've been sort of tempted to watch an episode ever since Michael Schaub of Bookslut described the show as "the most fascinatingly awful thing ever produced by humankind."

It really is aweful, in the sense that it's so PREDICTABLE and the main character Kyle has it so easy he's hard to identify with.

I watch the show. Primarily since it's the only thing new on in it's time slot but its growing on me as I get to know the characters. I think it's a little bit 'Smallville' and a little bit 'Joan of Arcadia' as the teens are exploring relationships. Espisode reviews would be appreciated.

I watch this show, but it's pretty bad, and very predictable. It reminds me a lot of the DARYL or The Boy Who Could Fly movies that I loved when I was ten. Plus, a little The Wonder Years, thanks to the annoying voiceover. And some 7th Heaven good old fashioned family values, except for the skanky daughter. It does remind me a little of the X-files, but only because Nicholas Lea is in it. And it reminds me a little of Stargate because the mom looks like Amanda Tapping. But, I cancelled my cable so there's not much to choose from. I'm frankly surprised that so many people like Kyle XY - but my favorite show this summer is So You Think You Can Dance so there's no accounting for taste!

This show is very similar to John Doe, but not completely. Actually, it strikes me as the perfect combination of John Doe, and Roswell - two great shows that ended before their time. The nice thing about Kyle XY is it is a show I can watch with my children. It's not great art, but it's fun entertainment

I love the show but wish the show's writers would rename the character of Thomas Foss. Alex Krycek would be more apt, since he exemplifies the traits of duplicity and sinisterness. And the physician who examined Kyle in an early episode--well, he played the character of Robert Patrick Modell (the "pusher") in The X-Files as well. Perhaps Mulder and Scully will make a guest appearance in season two of Kyle XY. I also noted the reference to alien-human hybrid in the last episode. I want to believe.

I'm watching Kyle XY, but only because it's summer and I really really hate reality shows, so there's not much to do when I'm not plowing through the 489 films in my Netflix queue.
I find the show really appalling, personally, because it's so very predictable and so much of the acting is abysmal. And yet, like the equally pathetic "Hex," on BBC-America, I keep finding myself coming back. It's like "7th Heaven," in that I find myself wondering how much worse it can get.
In that vein, however, I would love to see TV Squad take it on. Given that TWoP hasn't decided to subject it to its special brand of lambasting, I'm hoping that I can find solace in TV Squad scorn.

without a doubt the show is derivative but it is still pretty good and matt dallas is just so cute as robotic kyle. i watch the show because the pilot had a really good scene in it. other than that the show has fallen short.

I attended the panel for this show at Comic Con because my kids wanted me to...Anyhow the similarity to John Doe was brought up with one of the producers (Julie Plec) who attended.
She said the show was pitched and created BEFORE John Doe and when John Doe suddenly came out on Fox, it languished in the script archives.
Julie Plec (who was a movie writer) took a job last year with an agency and ABC Family gave the agency an assignment to find shows for consideration as original series. She rummaged around her new agency and found the pilot (now 5 years old) for Kyle XY. She pitched it to ABC Family as "is this the kind of show you're thinking of" and they said "it is EXACTLY the kind of show" and five days after she began with this agency, she quit to work on Kyle XY.
The reason the show has so many XFiles people and locations is of course, because it films in Vancouver. So they use the usual stable of local Vancouverite actors.
BTW I live in Arizona, and the actress playing the mom is familiar to us because she's a graduate of a high school in Scottsdale. She's known to me as a Broadway singer -- she was in the 2001 Tony nominated Jane Eyre.
I've also seen her on stage in La Jolla CA in the late 1990s.
