I remember a classic (okay, even for television, I admit I am stretching beyond all reason in my use of the term "classic") episode of Just Shoot Me in which characters played by Laura San Giacomo and David Spade came up with and pitched the following idea to a movie producer: Vampire Cop! The producer quickly dispensed with them, "I've seen it, what else ya' got?" to the consternation of Spade and San Giacomo's , who basically had nothing at all, let alone something else.Fox is not making that mistake, because they have made scripting deals for two, count 'em, two vampire or vampire-ish tv shows, only one of which is a cop show.
That one is an as-yet unnamed concept from Allan Loeb and Christian Taylor involving a police officer who is "secretly" centuries old. Yeah, in our youth-obsessed ageist society you want to keep that kind of personal information to yourself.
The second concept seems a bit farther along, in that it has a name at least. Amy After Dark is about a New York attorney who discovers she is a vampire. Although in a Boston Legal era, a show about an attorney who isn't a hideous creature of the night might be more original. John Scott Shepherd and director Todd Holland are spearheading this one. Holland worked on Wonderfalls and Malcolm in the Middle previously.
Any show that results is far from making a schedule at this point, but either has the potential, because everybody loves a bloodsucker. Oh Joss, how we miss you.

The first show sounds a lot like that show Forever Knight that was on in '92...

Wasn't there a real vampire cop show in the late 80s or early 90s? Forever Knight, I think?

Has Fox forgotten how badly they bungled a Vampire show the last time they tried? "Kindred: The Embraced," based on the successful White Wolf Vampire role playing game system, was a show with potential, had Fox not ruined it by trying to make it into "Vampire 90210." Now, they want to give us a Vampire Cop? Someone must have caught episodes of "Forever Knight" on the SciFi channel. Amy after Dark sounds like it could be amusing, but honestly neither of these shows sound like they'll captivate audiences.

Anyone who wants to do a vampire/cop series right should just buy the rights to Tanya Huff's 'Blood' series and hire her as a consultant to make sure they don't screw it up.
