(S02E09) This week's song choices made it tough to see who should be in this band and who shouldn't. While I respect the need to mix up the catalog, for the most part this week's selections made little sense. Patrice, Higher Ground --Tommy Lee plays drums. She probably couldn't go wrong with the energy of Tommy Lee behind her. I may find him personally tiresome but no one plays harder drums. Overall though she could have rocked just a bit harder.
Josh, Santeria -- Not sure why he gave up the chance to sing Higher Ground and maybe prove he could rock instead of another softer song that he can smile his way through. It was nice but he just needs to be doing his Jack Johnson thing elsewhere.
Dilana, Can't Get Enough -- Did she raid Zayra's closet? Great performance. She can really get an audience on their feet. If any girl can front this band, it's her.
Toby, Pennyroyal Tea -- Do we have to go through the entire Nirvana catalog? Toby seems a bit more roughed up this week and goes into the audience...
Zayra, 867-5309/Jenny -- Does this girl have a sidegig at the Cheetah or what? Her space alien-meets-stripper vibe might work for some artsy band in some little club in New York but not here. Who ever thought this song could get any worse?
Magni, Clocks -- He's in great voice as always and without sunglasses we can tell that he has lovely eyes. He's so not edgy though. His icy demeanor melts a bit when Supernova tells him they are flying his family in from Iceland.
Jill, Don't You Forget About Me -- Bump and grind again from the blonde bombshell. The mic stand really shouldn't be a stripper pole at least in regards to this song and the screaming, oh the awful screaming.
Ryan, Losing My Religion -- He plays piano. Is he wearing a windbreaker? His intensity seems to be working for him more and more.
Lukas, Celebrity Skin -- I used to think this was Lukas's competition to lose. I no longer think that. In this case his arrogance works against him. For the first time, Lukas bores me.
Storm, Changes -- A very low-key rendition, she still performs like she is in a musical but she's definitely becoming one of the long-haul players.
Dana, Baba O'Riley -- The girl really does try but it's like watching your kid sister try to be a rock star. Cute and all but really, this has to stop at some point.

I gotta say , yes , i've seen someone play harder drums. Tool's drummer and prolly the best in the world Danny Carey. Also Dream's Theater Mike Portnoy would kick Tommy Lee's ass any day. But its hard to focus on anything else when the lights are all turned on the drummer ... Don't misunderstand me , he did a great job.
My favourite this week was Ryan , but well, i knew him from his band and I loved the album so his intensity wasn't new to me. Dilana was cool but she and Lukas have too much credit, Lukas was horrible and yet everyone was on applause mode.
Toby did great on Nirvana, this time i didn't mind he was singing it. I think it was best Nirvana cover up to date.
BTW, i didn't get the Dave's comment on the anti-climatic thing for him going to the public... it made more sense that Dilana's and the guy carrying her around, it was her boyfriend... it's an obviously prepared moment , so not sure why would it be wrong for Toby to do the same...

I have not really been a fan of Ryan Star's in this competition but he gave the best performance of the season and maybe of the whole series last night. It will be interesting to see how he follows this up because I haven't been impressed by him before now. He will get the encore for that.
I am so glad that Storm toned it down for a change. Sure she has some glam rock type antics but that comes from years of performing and she's one of the few on this show who has major stage presence. Dilana is another one. She can take over a room with one look.
For me, the men are boring this year. I have always thought Toby had a great voice and Magni is growing on me but they don't hold a candle to Dilana or Storm.
BTW.... on the webisode, Josh gave Patrice the song because he would want to do it Stevie Wonder style and not Red Hot Chili Pepper's style. Just proof he won't win this thing but I thought he sounded great last night. I like his voice and style but it's not suited for Supernova.

Patrice's performance was good but she was completely dwarfed by Tommy Lee who absolutely commanded the stage - even from behind his drum-kit! Back in my hair-metal days, he was always one of my fave drummers but he appears to have lost quite a bit of his chops these days.
Josh's singing was faultless. Really cool delivery although why in hell, would there be a reggae song for a band that is basically looking for a Metal singer! Can't work that out.
Dilana... again pure magic. She made the room look and feel like she was playing Madison Square Garden. I'm getting a little tired of her gravelly voice but having said that, she just rocks it out and is a class above the rest right now.
Toby... kinda dull tonight. He's just not picking the right tunes.
Zayra... never liked her but I thought she kicked ass tonight. Didn't mind her version of the song either.
Magni... I just can't understand why he gets through unscathed all the time. Dull. Boring. No stage pressence. Uninspiring vocals. Lifeless.
Jill... disappointing. Trying far too hard and coming across as far too contrived. I think she will be history... soon!
Ryan - best performance. Brilliant vocal tonight.
Lukas... an absolute tool. Pathetic performance tonight. Little midget punk-wannabe who also has the worst voice of the lot. Like Magni, I just don't get what all the fuss is about. Hopefully, his days are numbered.
Storm... class act but... I dunno... I just dunno.
Dana... can you even begin to imagine her fronting a band of died-in-the-wool rockers? Nope, didn't think so.
For me... Dilana again.

I mostly agree with all of the comments. I always wonder how the house band feels when they get to (have to?) play with the 'rock stars' from Supernova (tommy, jason, gilby, dave) and know that they have 1000000 times the chops on their instrument as these clowns. I know that it's not all about how well you play your instrument but I wonder if it frustrates them. Otherwise, I am a little bit disappointed by this season. No one has grabbed me like JD or Ty or Susie from last season. I can't make myself care about who gets voted off. I feel like if anyone from the top...8?... last year was on the show this year it would be a foregone conclusion about the winner.
Just my .02.

Watching Zayra every week is reminding me of Bai Ling on But Can They Sing. You go in every week knowing something bad is going to happen, but you are curious to see what that is, and just how bad it is going to be.
I still have Storm in the lead for the women. I know eveyone is high on Dilana, but I'm not crazy about her voice. She's a great performer, but I'm not sure I would want to listen to her for an entire show, or an entire record. I like Jill, she's got a great voice, and she's hot, but I just don't think she gets it. Deidre summed up Dana perfectly. She's trying to be a rock star while Storm and Dilana are being rock stars. Big difference. I'd love to see Dana on Nashville Star.
For the men, it's Magni, though more by default than actual excitement about his performance. I'm still not convinced that Lukas can actually sing. And if Tommy is crafting touchy feely piano ballads, that might come in handy. The other guys are just kind of boring.

One thing that strikes me as odd is that on the TV's above the stage, it looks like the show is in HD, or at least widescreen yet it doesnt look stretched. Yet the show isnt aired in HD at all. Also during when they showed everyone their own performance (on Mondays Show) all of the performances were in widescreen on an HDTV. What gives. Shame really, i'd love to watch it in HD.

Dilana is the best by far. The other women imitate her. She has a wonderful voice that if you are trully listening changes. She reminds me of Axl Rose in the many ways she can sing. She is also the only one who can scream in key.

I agree Zayra is way overdue she should've been gone weeks ago. I believe the only reason she is still there is for entertainment value. Who else would we have to laugh at? She sure isn't being kept around for her talent. As far as the others I believe it will come down to Dilana and Magni although I believe Toby has a chance to be third.
