(S03E03)Atlantis is in between giant story arcs right now. The latest episode was good fun, and it keeps you guessing. I loved this little scene with the candle. They were all so proud of this little candle.
It was a pretty light hearted story. Once again I'm questioning Beckett's common sense. Well, I'm sure as heck wondering why they'd leave him all alone on a strange planet. Sure Shep's team checked things out, but Beckett isn't Mr Grace Under Pressure. (I think my 3 year old could make him talk.)
So, Shep's team visits another planet in their search for space stargates to steal. The run into the very popular Lucious. (And his six super hot wives) They send Beckett back to check out Lucious's medical offer. Beckett is overwhelmed by Lucious and brings him back to Atlantis.
After a while, everyone in Atlantis except Sheppard and McKay is under Lucious' spell. Shep goes off to look for some of Lucious' potion and McKay stays behind. Shep discovers a town of people in withdrawal, but scores some of the potion. McKay manages to get sucked in by Lucious while Shep's gone.
I started wondering if Shep was going to just take some of the stuff himself and have a popularity contest. (That could have been pretty entertaining) But he kidnaps Dr. Beckett and runs off in a Jumper.
When Teyla and Ronon[Update: Fixed the names] catch the two, I immediately thought something was wrong. Shep's proven himself to be a damn good strategist. Why not stay in the cloaked jumper? Is everything lost over a need for toasted marshmallows? Naahh. Shep doesn't disappoint when he outsmarts the not so bright bad guy.
All in all, it was a good episode, but I probably won't remember it for very long.

Um, not to sound like a know-it-all nerd or anything, but it's spelled Teyla and Ronon, not Tayla and Ronan.
And speaking of Ronon, does anyone else hate him as much as me? He is such a one note character. A generic "I'm angry" kinda guy. Was Lt. Ford really so bad? Next weeks episode looks like it's gonna be Ronon-heavy...ugh.

I am okay with Ronan. To me Sg-1 and Atlantis are just Star Trek TNG with a new story. Acceptable popcorn scifi with a touch of heart. To me Ronan is the new Worf.
The actor who played Lt Ford wanted off the show actually. He couldnt handle the stress of 18+ hour days of a rigerous TV schedule.
As for the spellings of the characters, dont feel bad about being a know-it-all nerd. This reviewer isnt the best at spelling names.

Speaking of know-it-all nerds, did you know that Richard Kind is one of only three people who've appeared in the Stargate movie and one of the Stargate television series. Alexis Cruz (Skaara) and Erik Avari (Kasuf) are the other two, both appeared in SG1. A select group, indeed!

Good thing the writers didn't give the Atlantis crew the munchies, otherwise it would have been completely implausible. ;P

Arrgh! I put my tape player on pause during a commercial and then promptly fell asleep at the very end of "Irresistable". (Not that it was boring, I was just exhausted.)My VCR shut off and did not finish taping the rest of the episode.
Could someone P-L-E-A-S-E tell me precisely how John outsmarted his teammates and saved the day? Please, oh please?!
Thanks so much, jane

This comment is a little late. I just found out this section existed actually. I'll waste no time getting started.
Ronon is a tough guy, I agree. Bringing him to the show was for the sake of replacing Ford, who I thought was a great character. I also think that the story line that the writers used to phase him out was fantastic. Ronon is a newcomer and we as an audience don't know much about him yet because he's so quiet. I thought he was a good addition seeing as he knows much about the wraith and he knows how to handle himself in a combat situation. My advice to all of you that hate him: Be patient. Wait until you know more about his character and get a real grasp of what he has to offer everyone on Atlantis.
As for the episode itself, I liked it. It was a nice change from being so dramatic all the time. The episode, I thought, gave me a chance to giggle at the silliness of it instead of being so serious. I also thought it was fun to see the characters acting the way they did. It was nice to see everyone smiling; even if it was from some goofy herb.

Um, if you are going to comment on a show you should at least try to spell the character names right. DOH. Otherwise why bother since you do not seem to care that much about the show.
This was a stupid and utterly useless episode that need not have been made. Given who wrote and directed it I was expecting much more. This, peice of crap was so bad that I was expecting that M&M actually wrote it. Which only makes it more pathetic. They left a medical doctor on a planet all alone when those same citizens surround and almost took Sheps team prisioner but sure...why not let a doc go back to the planet all lone.
Shep was able to save the day because his nose was stuffy and thus, apparently the pheramone was not able to effect him. How utterly stupid.
You fell asleep at the end? Lucky you I was forced to watch the end of the episode. The whole time praying that something would happen to actually save the day. Silly me. The only positive thing to come from this episode was the part between Shep and Beckett in the Jumper.
Richard Kind was horrible. Just plain pathetic.
Also can anyone say "Hathor"???????
I am sick of the rehashing of Sg1 episodes in SGA land. Can they not think of anything fresher?

Actually, the idea of a potion, or something magical inducing love, is pretty common in ANY Sci-Fi genre show. Hell, Buffy did it in Season 6 and I know others have in the past. It's pretty standard. If you think about Weird Science, the movie, did the same thing when they made the girl to be attracted to the nerds as they created Lisa. So it's not that uncommon, and I'm pretty sure SG-1 wasn't the first to use the plotline. Also, most plotlines on most of today's shows are recycled versions of previous shows.
I personally enjoyed the show except for Richard Kind. Seriously, those butt shots could have been edited out. For the sake of my eyes if nothing else.
Most shows seem to do a light hearted episode (even if the subject matter isn't necessarily) after a pretty heavy load and "Misbegotten" was extremely heavy for a second episode of the season. It would make sense since the next one looks to be heavy as well. Too much dark without humor would be depressing.
Lt. Ford needs to come back for another episode soon. I enjoy him, disillusioned or not, but Ronon is pretty cool as a member of the team. He's not a replacement for Ford, just an interesting dynamic to the team.

Well, It already worked in "Broca Divide", ep #4 of Stargate SG-1...
I liked this episode... just fun... nice to have every now and then.
As for Ronon, yeah, he grates on me a bit, but I'm holding out for something that lets him open up a bit.

Holy cow Auntie Em take a breather! Remember: it's just a tv show. Beckett only went back to the planet alone because it had been checked out prior and deemed safe. It sounds like you don't even like watching Atlantis, so maybe you just shouldn't watch it...you know; for your health.

Yes, I got the part about Shep having a stuffy nose kept him from inhaling the drug, but What Happened After Ronon Zapped Him? How was John able to save the day after that?? Please, someone tell me!
As to Atlantis stories shadowing SG'1's...at least they aren't as blatant copiers as Smallville's writers are...they had the whole Hathor scenario, complete with sexy-lady in skimpy outfits, exhaling pink gas into whichever male she was kissing at the time.
I liked the episode well enough; anything with John being a little vulnerable with his cold and yet still toughing it out and saving the day (somehow...still don't know how...) TTFN, jane

FYI - Rainbow Sun Franks who played Ford DID NOT want to leave the show- he loved his job and was the last to know when he was let go. He's a fanboy of the first order and still does conventions. I like Ronon and think he's a good addition, but honestly, it was sad the way Ford had to leave AND the way the actor himself was treated.
