It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia: The Gang Exploits a Miracle

Does that make me gay? Am I gay for God? You betcha!

(S02E07) "So if you like the Virgin Mary and you like beer, c'mon down to Paddy's Pub. We got 'em both."

There is nothing this show won't go after. The latest victim? Organized religion and the fanatics who take advantage of those with strong beliefs. I can only imagine what it must be like to sit in on a pitch meeting for episode ideas and topics. Offensive ideas, racist notions, biased thoughts. And everyone can't stop laughing. Seems wrong doesn't it?

So the gang discovers a stain near the sink in the office at Paddy's. However Mac sees the Virgin Mary in the stain. It sure does look like her and Frank decides they can make a boatload of cash if they play this right. Clearly, all these people are going to hell.

Dennis makes an announcement on the news and before long, plenty of "followers" have showed up to pay tribute to the stain. At this point, I really had to marvel at the way they structured this episode. It was really well done as each character spun off on their own tangents. Dennis, now conscious of his weight since seeing himself on TV, has been fasting for three days and he looks like a zombie. Dee tries to strike up a relationship with a priest (he had a crush on her in high school). And Mac and Charlie battle to see who can create a greater religious following. It's just madness and it all ties in together in the end. Really well written and executed.

It all culminated with an old senile priest (Frank used to attend the man's church) urinating on the stain instead of blessing it. There goes the neighborhood.

Next week, the gang runs for office... politics won't ever be the same. But in the meantime, heed the words of Charlie:

"You risk your feet, you get some shoes. That's how God works!"
