Janeane Garofalo(S01E07) Along with Mary Tyler Moore and Amy Sedaris, I've always had a crush on Janeane Garofalo. I remember being happy when this episode came on, since I had loved her standup and her work on The Ben Stiller Show (with Andy Dick). She plays Nancy, Dave's ex-girlfriend who seems nice on the outside but is really kind of a nut. She comes to New York City to be with Dave, who never quite told her that they were officially broken up.

Meanwhile, Jimmy meets a business and technology "visionary" named Tom at a conference and arranges for him to be interviewed by Bill, but that doesn't turn out quite as Jimmy or Dave had hoped...

Dave introduces Nancy to everyone, and everyone immediately loves her. She even buys pastries for the gang, but after her and Lisa are alone, she tells Lisa to stay away from Dave or she'll kill her. At first Lisa laughs and thinks Nancy is kidding, but Nancy turns all serious and tells her she's not. Dave and Nancy go to lunch, and Lisa tells Beth what happened. Beth says that Nancy just said the same thing to her, then adds, "you didn't eat your donut yet, did you?"

After interviewing "Tom the computer expert" and not letting him get a word in at all, Phil decides quickly that the guy is a fraud. When Dave confronts him and asks him why he didn't let the guy talk, Bill says that he can spot a phony a mile away. Dave reschedules the interview for the following day with Catherine.

Dave tells Nancy about him and Lisa. And she starts crying but then gets hold of herself and tells everyone about Dave and Lisa's secret affair before she leaves. Everyone looks shocked, until Matthew says that he owes Lisa an apology. Nancy really is crazy! Imagine, Dave and Lisa, who are always arguing, having an affair!

Tom comes back to be interviewed by Catherine, but it turns out Bill is right. This Tom guy thinks the future of business is "computers." They're really neat, and when he gets one, he's going to be really successful. Jimmy talks to Dave about it, and wonders why Bill couldn't figure out quickly that this guy was a phony because he's usually good at that.

Quotes:

"Yes, you are. That's why I wanted to tell you not to even think about moving in on my boyfriend or I'd kill you." - Nancy, to Lisa, after telling he she seems like one of the nicer people at WNYX.

"No, it doesn't bother me. It's just that I've seen tobacco company lawsuits settled more quickly than this interminable security desposit spiel." - Dave, to Lisa, wondering why she has to keep calling her ex-boyfriend Stuart.

"And for Lisa...a plain donut." - Nancy, after getting the gang pastries that matched their personalities.

"Oh, I'm sorry, that was presumptous of me. Do you have a special 'person' in your life?" - Bill, who asked Dave if he had a special woman in his life.

"The next time you 'discuss the promos' maybe you should close the blinds so you don't get busted." - Beth, about Dave and Lisa's code phrase for making out.
