Hell's Kitchen: Episode 6

Gordon Ramsay(S02E06) I'm typing this between 9 and 10 at night, and it's still in the upper 80s and unbearably humid. So, really, the last show I want to watch is something where people in long sleeves and pants are running around a hot kitchen, sweating, cooking hot food under pressure. Makes me feel even worse, as I search for even a hint of a breeze outside my apartment window. Ugh.

The women's team is hurting (Rachel was voted out last week), and the blue team is gloating that they are going to mop up the floor with them.

The challenge this week: go to Farmer's Market and, in 20 minutes, pick up enough ingredients to make a three course meal to impress Chef Ramsay. The winner? The red team (the women) and the blue team is incredibly pissed off. Not just in general, but at Ramsay specifically. They can't believe he picked a burnt soup and a skimpy dessert ("with one strawberry? Are you kidding me?!? - Heather). The blue team has to unload supplies that are being delivered via truck while the red team gets a night on the town with Ramsay.

Next shot is the girls lying on their stomachs in the sun, their asses on full display. The less said about this the better.

Ramsay shows up with a limo and picks up the girls. They go to a restaurant called Providence, where they are treated like "Hollywood," as Sara puts it. May I make a side note here that I really dislike Sara? Everything about her. Her attitude, her smirk, the tone of her voice, even her stupid precious little hipster glasses.

Virginia is drinking too much and asks the owner a rambling question that barely makes sense. Classy.

Gordon confronts Garrett (he gave Ramsay the finger after the girls went out on their night with the chef). He asks Garrett if he wants to go. Garrett says no (um, shocking). Ramsay says he never wants to see that again.

Ramsay was so impressed by the challenge that he's going to let both teams design the menus for that night's service, a blue menu and a red menu. But both teams are feuding. The blue team isn't listening to Garrett's suggestions, and the red team is divided too. Sara offers to help Virginia cook something, and Virginia says no. Sara calls her an idiot (not to her face, in those little camera interviews after).

Stupid reality TV moment: The truck horn sounds and that means there's another delivery! So the blue team has to drop what they're doing and rush out and unload the truck. I worked in restaurants for 12 years, and I think that happened maybe once, and we didn't all have to just drop everything and run outside. Just another unreal "reality" moment for TV.

Sara's lamp chops are all small and bizarre looking. Garrett's station catches on fire. Ramsay flips out. He screams that there will be no more lamb served.

Sara's food is coming out raw and bloody. And this is where the show's promos are misleading. They had Ramsay yelling "there's blood everywhere!" and it sounded like someone had cut himself and was bleeding and the food was affected. But as we see in the ep he was just talking about the rare meat.

Meanwhile, the blue team makes Hell's Kitchen history: they actually serve dessert!

Sara mouths off to Ramsay, and after he calls the blue team over to help the red team, he actually leaves the kitchen because he can't stand being there anymore. The red team completes their service.

Red team obviously loses. Ramsay tells each of the three to nominate another. The girls go back to their rooms and snip at each other. They come out to the kitchen. Ramsay asks them if they have chosen their nominees. But then he says he doesn't care what their nominees are. He's made his own decision. He asks the three to step forward.

The girls make their defense of themselves, and in the end Ramsay tells Maribel to leave. Another thing about the promos: they said we'd "never believe who leaves." Um, we wouldn't?
