Personally, I think that the big screen Miami Vice movie was ruined the day they decided, "hey, let's make a big screen Miami Vice movie!" But Slate is reporting that there was a lot of trouble on the set of the film. Not only was there a real shooting while on location in the Dominican Republic, but people are saying that Jamie Foxx (he plays Tubbs) came with an entourage and was acting like a diva on the set, and that only increased after he won the Academy Award for Ray. He demanded, and got, a pay raise, while Colin Farrell (he plays Crockett) got a pay cut, and asked that the ending be changed.
I hope the movie blows. Seriously, how can they remake Miami Vice without the music, the clothing, the neon, the pastels, the whole Miami Vice vibe that made it cool in the first place? Outrageous action scenes? Explosions? Deafening rap music? This isn't Miami Vice, it's just another modern buddy action pic. The trailer doesn't make the movie look too promising.
And to think that Michael Mann, the creator of the show, directed this. Hey, I'll hold off complete judgement til the movie is released (actually, the DVD), but advance buzz is incredibly bad.

The story I read, and I don't remember where now, didn't have Foxx asking for the ending to be changed. Instead, it said that his actions forced the ending to be changed. Apparently, after the shooting in the Dominican, Foxx packed up his stuff and left, so Mann was unable to film the ending he had planned.

This is exactly how I was feeling! At least Starsky and hutch was semi-faithful to the original. This one is all 2004ish and that kinda rubs me the wrong way when I think about Miami Vice.

I am so tired of Jamie Foxx right now. He used to be a funny and somewhat humble guy, but after Ray got huge buzz and and he won the Oscar he thinks he rules Hollywood. He has become increasingly annoying.
And this movie is going to suck balls.

As a Vice fan who was lucky enough to be an extra on four episodes of the original including the final 2 hour episode, I am not looking forward to the movie. I like both actors but you just can't capture the Miami Vice feeling and like Alan stated, it looks like another Bad Boys movie shot in Miami. Where's Phil Collins when you need him??

Miami Vice will easily be one of the best films of this year, if not one of the best Undercover cop/Drug/Action flms ever. The fact that there were problems on set mean nothing. Mann is behind this like he was the show except he is smart enough to be able to update it, sorry your stuck in the eighties, ge3t your head out of that pile of coke and realize we're in 2006, put thepastels and the white loafers away Bob, they are not cool anymore... Michael Mann is possibly the finest director in America. And his utilization of Mogwai on the soundtrack is a perfect fit for him. The show may be camp, but if Sam Peckinpah decided to make a film based on "Bonanza", would you see it? Even if the film is a failure, you can at least count on it having something that few films released commercially have: at least a few moments of aesthetic rapture.

Should have been Matthew McConaughey or Brad Pitt as Crockett and Terence Howard, from "Crash" and "Hustle and Flow", as Tubbs. They are more in line with the original charecters.
