From the "Look, We're Really Not Surprised" department ...
It turns out that the last eight episodes of HBO's The Sopranos will not be premiering in January as originally reported. Blame star James Gandolfini's knee surgery for mucking up the works. Since the surgery has set filming back, HBO Chairman Chris Albrecht decided to push the final episodes back to March of 2007. In its place the premium cable network will air the second season of Rome.
Television critic Tim Goodman of the San Francisco Chronicle speaks of this scheduling change in his blog. He talks about Deadwood, The Wire, and Curb Your Enthusiasm as well.

So they sent the whole season of The Wire to critics? And the season is not supposed to premiere till Sep. 10?
I so wish I was a TV critic right now.

Totally agree, I got so hooked I am watching them again AND Homicide: Life on the Streets just to get my fix.
Sometimes, though, they can be incomplete with missing shots, so I guess I can wait a little.

The Sopranos really need to get over themselves. Last season, and every other season maybe besides the first, was terrible.

Who cares if this disgrace of a show ever comes back on? The entire season was literally a comedy! The last show was awful for a so-called "cliff hanger" I think James Gandolfini has nerve demanding the $ that he does. Keep it off for good... by March 2007 nobody will care or think twice about that joke of a show!

I didn't even think the last group of episodes was any good. It was all whining and complaining crap with no direction. It seemed as if they were just setting up for a film feature. I could care less if it ever came back.

The wire is my all time favorite show on HBO, just because it shows the complexity of human nature, that the criminals arent all bad, and the police arent all good. It is nice to see the caracters as more than the sum of their "occupation". As for the Soprano's, last season wasn't all that good anyway. Maybe the wait will make them step their game up

I LOVE the Sopranos but not this last season. Who do they think we are? We await a new season, hopefully a season that not only rivals the previous ones but is better and the writers/directors give us pure crap. I want NO MORE of that stuff. If they can't do any better, then they can keep all new episodes in the can, or flush them, that's where they belong!

I have been an avid "Sopranos" watcher since its inception. Please don't dissappoint your viewers. I was upset with the length of this last run. A couple of topics could have been omitted but I won't complain because many are. I love the show and the actors, just don't crush us at the end.

I am completely convinced HBO does this on purpose. They get you completely hooked on a show, and because of that, you won't cancel HBO. So they drag it out for as long as they can. Sopranos, Deadwood, and Rome are what keeps me paying for it. Once they are gone, so am I. At this rate though, that will be 2012.

Although I agree to pushing the filming back because of an injury, it does anger me. I also understand the producers putting "space" (time) between the beginning and the ending, doesn't mean I like it though!! I wish they'd (the writers and producers) make a movie, that is one show I'd stand in line for, to buy a 9 dollar ticket! I'd be there..... Problem with that though, The Sopranos is one show that has an never-ending story line.

I loved always the Sopranos but last season just plain sucked. If it was their first season they would have been cancelled and James could have healed all he wanted.
The dream scene was horrible, and nothing against Gay's but how much did we need to watch that ridiculous story line...
All the great characters, Christoper, and all the captains, and we get to watch a man struggle with his sexuality all season. No show does that, whether Gay, drinker, gambler or hooker. IT WAS BORING>>>
So bring back the awesome talent , bang up some people and get the Sopranos back to where they belong on their way out!!!

The Sopranos is a very complex and compelling show. This last season was a disappointment to die hard fans and left nothing for newer viewers. If it takes a few extra months to continue filming that is fine as long as they provide a dynamic conclusion. I have been hooked since episode one and will gladly wait if the writers can promise something that keeps me tuned in.
