I wrote about a few of these commercials over at Adjab recently, but I have to mention more of them here because they are really starting to get to me.
Have you ever noticed that TV commercials that run during the summer are particularly annoying? It's not just the actual content of the ads (though that can be quite irritating), it's the number of times that a commercial is repeated during June, July, and August. Toyota can't just have a one or two week sale, they have to have a damn Toyotathon that lasts all summer, so we have to hear that "Let's go for a ride, feel the sunshine, let's go for a ride in the summertime" song 300 times a day. Dunkin' Donuts doesn't just have a few summer drinks, they now have summer drinks for every situation and personality, and America runs because of them, so these ads run 200 times a day.
Now, some of this might be because I get paid to watch TV for a living and watch a lot more of it than most people, but I think that even the most casual TV viewer sees these ads over and over and over again, to the point that they want to change the channel. Have you noticed that summertime ads run a gazillion times a day?

As far as I'm concerned, they can run any commercials featuring music by They Might Be Giants as often as they want. So the Dunkin' Donuts campaign gets a free pass.

Not all of America dances to Dunkin Donuts' tune. Here in Los Angeles I can't remember the last time I saw one of their ads or even one of their stores. (There used to be one on Wilshire a mile or so west of the 405, adjacent to a gas station, but I believe it's gone now.)

As far as I can tell, Summer's not any worse than any other time of the year. No matter what channel I choose it seems I'm berated with the same commercial at least 3x an hour.

Hello:
What is annoying about some of these TV commercials is not how many times some of those ads run every few minutes (example, Verizon ads), but the thought of how many hundreds of millions of dollars American corporations over pay for those commercials!
Those millions could be put to a better use rather than squandering them on TV networks which are already outlandishly rich and spoiled.
It is amazing how some of these networks pay some of their newscasters millions of dollars and yet most of them can’t even pronounce simple English words correctly or read a few lines of news without biting their tongues.
I wonder, at these TV stations, do they have any supervisors at all?

I have seen this commercial over and over where a man jumps from a cliff with a parachute. This is a suzuki commercial. Everyone is wondering how he got up there in the first place.
I also saw a commercial for a pet chamber that puts a pet into suspended animation while his owners are away.
This is horrible!! That is extreme cruelty to a pet. This chamber looks like a regular pet carrier and has 2 switches on it... Freeze and thaw. If this works I hope the inventer gets a toothache. Also when people see how easy it is to put a pet into suspended animation, it won't be long before someone gets the bright idea to save babysitting fees by putting a small child in it and putting him in suspended animation.

They're playing over and over again because summer ads are unwanted, low-budget advertising. People just don't watch as much TV in the summer, partly because they're outside or on vacation, and partly because the networks wouldn't air highly sought-after shows during such a slow viewing time.
